FORTUNATE indeed. Cagayan de Oro has been divided into two congressional districts. As such, the city will have two seats in the House of Representatives, hence the “pork” has been doubled. Not only that. Almost all the amenities—roads and bridges, passenger terminals, airports and seaports, public markets, hospitals, educational institutions and even malls--highly-urbanized cities must have are already in place. “Mine is just the interior decoration since all the major infrastructures are already there,” Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula said during a news conference—the first ever at City Hall in nine years—on Wednesday, July 4. Organized by the City Information Office, record-breaking 53 media practitioners showed up—waited for over an hour at the conference hall before they were guided to the reception area of the Office of the City Mayor--while others came in late. “I intend to do this (news conference) as often as I can because I need your help in telling our people what we are doing here in City Hall,” Jaraula stressed. While acknowledging the performance of his predecessor, Vicente Y. Emano, the three-termer city chief executive who undoubtedly succeeded in face-lifting many public facilities, Jaraula announced he has the assurance of the two newly-elected members of the House of Representatives from the city, Rep. Rolando “Klarex” Uy of the first district and Rep. Rufus B. Rodriguez of the second district.
