Tynae

Tynae is an awesome friend that I've known since we were 7,
she always is interested in the things I'm interested in. Tynae is a
christian girl that I meet at church, she loves making everyone smile and
work together. When I'm sad (or any of her friends are) she makes sure
she makes us happy. She is one of the reasons I'm a better person
today. Love you Tynae!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (In the Friend way)

Mat

So, it's kind of rare for a younger guy to get Star of the Month. Looking through...the only guys to get Star of the Month previously, were Sepehr (well, really Negin his sister was the main focus) and then a couple grandpa's and one husband-wife team and one whole family that had 3 guys and more girls ;). But this guy, is amazing.

Way back in the first few emails I exchanged with him as my pen pal, he encouraged me during one of the hardest times I'd ever gone through. He knew just what to say, undoubtably because he is a strong Christian and prays. See, God gives the words that are so much needed!

Mat is a Marine and he's been one for about 1 1/2 years. During highschool he went on several mission trips, such as ones to Holland, Poland, and New Zealand, and was invovled in evangelism in every day life. He was very active in his youth group and even got to help teach others how to evangelize! I had the privilege of writing Mat while he was in boot camp, sending him verses and other things, and letting him know I was praying for him.

Mat is always encouraging and knows how to make sure people know how much he cares about them. He makes me smile! He is crazy in an awesome way!

I've even paraphrased things Mat has emailed me before, in a devotional or two, without realizing it until later! He always points to God.

I am so thankful to know him!! This past Tuesday he did something that I'd never expect. See, he'd asked me if anyone had asked me to be their Valentine on last Thursday. I was single for the 19th year, right? So he said he was gonna send me something, because it wasn't right that I had no one ask, or something to that effect. That was Monday.

When I got home on Tuesday, there on my table was a dozen roses, a cute little bear, two balloons, and a box of chocolate! I was extremely surprised, and ran downstairs in excitement (they had come before I was home so my Mama had put them in my room). I was almost in tears because the flowers were the most beautiful I'd ever seen, the vase was Mediterranean looking to me and that's my favorite, and the chocolates were Hershey's, which is my very favorite - and I had already known I had an awesome friend, but this was so much!

Mat is an amazing guy. That is why I wanted to put him in for Star of the Month this February.

Lizabeth H.

She is always so positive! She often surprises me with something encouraging and sweet! She is always there when I need her, always does her best, and always works hard. Liz loves God and love people, and she is a great sister to her two sisters and one brother. She is great with little kids and older people alike, because she loves life and everyone can tell that! She dreams big and has the potential to live out those dreams, and she is always focusing on the most important things. When she prays for others their lives are truly touched as her heart is in line with God's. Liz is probably the sweetest person I know. One of our favorite songs is the same - When Did You Fall by Chris Rice; Liz is always so much fun to be around, and that is why I nominate her for January's Star! She will graduate this May, and then she's off to college - Congrats, Liz!

Jessica D.

I would like to nominate my best friend, Jessica.

She is the perfect example of how a Christian should live:

She reads God's word, prays everyday, and has been tempted many times but has never given in. I
surely think that Jessica should be a star of the month.

(And so she is! Keep up the great witness for the Lord, Jessica D.!)

The Phillips Family and Life Choices Crew

I would like to nominate The Phillips Family and Life Choices Crew as stars of the month. They is are amazing friends and very encouraging to be around. They have a cool life (or I think so). They travel around the country as a grop and tell the story of their relative Rachel Scott. They also talk about not doing drugs and talk about future and present effects that making bad decisions cause on your family and friends. Another awesome thing about the whole group is that in everything that they do they do it all to glorify God in every single way. They are a God driven group and great friends.

Holly C.

I would like to nominate my friend Holly C. for Star of the Month {submitted originally for February}.

She is the best friend anyone could ask for; she is the one who first introduced me to Christianity.

She took me along to her confirmation classes and Christian camps and made me feel at home.

She is amazing and loving.

Holly is always willing to lend a hand and muck in; she never shys away from anything and I love her for it.

She was and is there by my side when my parents were not getting along, when my grandad was dying, and now when my grandma is dying.

I love her to bits and she is a true and proper Christian.

Negin Mostaghasi

Negin is an inspiration to me. Negin, Sepehr and Sahar Mostaghasi were killed in a car accident involving a drunk driver. Since Negin and Sepehr were not wearing their seatbelts, Sepehr was tossed from the car and Negin and him died.

Negin was very shy, and was born in Iran. I met her at my middle school, I took theatre arts with her. She did not like to get on stage much, but
when it was time to get in groups and work, there was always a group of
people wanting to be her partner. She was always smiling.

When I found out[about the accident], I was honestly in doubt. I couldn't accept the fact that one of the people in your life that always seemed to be there was GONE.

That's why I think that Negin Mostaghasi should be the star of the month.

Sarah W.

My nominee for STAR OF THE MONTH is my friend Sarah. I've only known her for a couple of months but she's become a REAL friend to me.

Recently I've had to adjust to wearing glasses. For a young teenager its a very, very, very tough thing to adjust to. She (besides my sister) is one of the most supportive friends on the whole glasses topic! Since the begging she has said that it looks cute on me and said that if I'd wear mine to an outing she'd wear hers too! Some of my other friends made me feel uncomfortable wearing them... Sarah did not! She is a very supportive friend and she means a lot to me! I have learned a lot about supporting friends through Sarah.

And that's why I think Sarah should be the star of the Month for January of 2007. God Bless and Thank God for friends like Sarah!

Terri & Dale Mobley

I nominate my mom and dad, Terri and Dale Mobley; they have taught me how to be modest, they helped through the painful times like when a crush breaks your heart, they have been there no matter where they are, they always write loving letters or call to comfort me and my brothers and sisters. I can trust them with anything. They just lift you up when you're sad, I just think I've had a wonderful life so far..because of them. They are Godly parents; everything they teach me is filtered through the Word of God. Thank you God for giving me my parents!

   Kenzie

I would like to nominate my best friend Kenzie. She is a Christian girl who is dedicated to God. One of my friends is not a Christian, and doesn't quite get some of the Bible. We are always trying to explain it to her, and Kenzie never gets tired of it, or of talking about how wonderful God is. She isn't mean to others either.

Rachel Scott

I know she is no longer living, but I nominate Rachel Joy Scott. She WAS such an inspiration, and she knew she would die at a young age, for God's glory. But she lived her life to the fullest, even though her friends made fun of her for living for God. I've just recently learned of her, and her life and the way it ended has touched me so much. I really think she deserves to be recognized for her accomplishments.

Kendra Dudek

Hey I'm Tara and my best friend (who is also my brother's girlfriend), is Kendra Dudek.

This summer Kendra was diagnosed with an aggressive type of leukemia. In your everyday life you never think that your best friend or close family member could get a life threatening disease like that - but she did. She is one of the Godliest girls I know and I look up to her greatly. Through this trial she has been keeping the faith and looking up. If one of her siblings didn't match her bone marrow, she would be up for more round (s) of chemo therapy. Well, they didn't match, but when we talked about it, she said - "We weren't expecting it, but God knew, though." I love her with all my heart and she is now in her second round of chemo. Below is a brief story of what happened/is going on and below are pictures.

(From Kendra's family) Our lives were changed on Tuesday, July 26th when she was diagnosed with Leukemia. It came as quite a shock to us, but we know that God knew all about it on Tuesday morning when we woke up that we would be told by the day's end that our daughter has Leukemia. She had not been feeling well for about 3 weeks. I brought her in last Wed. (July 20th) to the Doctor and he said it was just her asthma. By the following Tuesday, she had lost another 5 pounds. We brought her back and I asked for a blood count which came back very wrong and we were sent to the ER. About an hour after getting there, they told us it was cancer. We cried, but also started trusting God and leaning on Him to help get us through this. She has AML (Acute Myelogenous Leukemia - a type of leukemia). She is in the midst of 10 straight days of chemotherapy and will remain in the hospital for 4-6 weeks until her counts get to where she can return home for a few days. She will then repeat this routine two more times, and then if one of her siblings is a match she'll have a bone marrow transplant. If not, she will be in for two more rounds of chemo. Thank you for the outpouring of prayer support and visits and cards. They have meant the world to her and her family.

This is Kendra's boyfriend, Dan (my brother and her).

This is Kendra and her three brothers and one sister. Thank you! I love you Kendra!

Lenora Ross

Mrs. Ross was saved at the age of eleven, when she was in fifth or sixth grade. Having grown up in church her whole life, she remembers standing with the rest of the choir one day, singing a familiar tune, and just then truly realizing she needed to accept Christ as her Savior. So, she did!

Mrs. Ross was the oldest girl in a family of 9 children. Because she had two older brothers, she was a bit of a tomboy, and loved sports. At age nine she began cooking for the whole family – her mother was a schoolteacher, and came home the same time the kids did. Her mother had to grade all of the papers for her class and do school records in the evening. Mrs. Ross remembers helping to grade those papers after she was a little older.

A favorite time in Mrs. Ross’s life was Vacation Bible School. She just loved going and hearing the songs, Bible stories, and learning about God. She looked forward to going and staying with her grandparents every summer. Here is some of what she wrote me about it:

VBS was one of my favorite parts of summer. The traveling missionary (who was a cousin) made VBS so exciting. He could repeat the books of the Bible backwards and of course forwards. The part of VBS I liked most was the stories told using flannel - telling the story and putting together a picture with flannel at the same time, so that after the pieces of flannel were put together it would tell the story. VBS was a time of closeness to the Lord, learning in a fun way the love of Jesus and that He loved me no matter what circumstance I was in.

My most favorite part of summer was the two weeks I would get to stay at my Grandpa and Grandma Hamlins. They lived in a log house that my grandfather and one of my uncles built out of logs off the farm. Grandpa would say, late in the evening, "Lenora, if you would go help your grandmother get her chores done, we'll go fishing." I’d go in and help grandma, and then she'd say, "Lenora, go help your grandfather finish his chores, and he'll take us fishing." Then after all the chores where done, we'd go fishing. It wasn't until years later that I realized I never got to fish. I love fishing, but I never really fished with my grandparents; I went fishing with them, but never fished myself. I loved the quiet time by the river with my grandparents; I felt the safest when I was with them.

Now Mrs. Ross has three grown daughters. Her first husband was in the military, so they moved around a lot. She had lots of lasting friendships, anyhow, and is in contact with some of them even now. Her first husband passed away a few years back. For ten years she was a widow, but now she’s been married again for seven years. With her husband’s three children, now she has a total of 17 grandkids! She said it’s hard to keep up with all the birthdays, especially some months!

Mrs. Ross had two years of college education as preparation. Also, she kept up with her Bible study and quiet times with the LORD, which she stressed as very important.

Wherever Mrs. Ross went, while her first husband was in the military, God would open a door for a place for her to serve. She worked as a secretary at four different churches, and felt it was her job and ministry. Other times she worked included managing insurance offices, working for the military, and being a housemother in an orphanage – and the church was always a big part of her service.

Her advice to kids is to stay in, and be very active in church; read the Bible, and especially have quiet times regularly - she said this is what has kept her going, and going in the right direction. She said she encourages kids to stay in tune with God and His will. When you have decisions He will guide you. Mrs. Ross mentioned recently reading about Abraham and Sarah, and God’s doing the impossible, and us having to wait sometimes for a very long time. We have to have faith that God will fulfill all His promises!

Grandpa Smith

Hey, from Kimberly! Here's a shout-out to my Grandpa Smith. You will laugh a lot around him! He's the only granpda I have, because my dad's father passed away a few years ago.  Grandpa Smith  has a lot of interesting stories from when he was young, and this is one of them:

I have a lot of childhood memories but I will tell you about this one, which I will never forget. We use to rabbit hunt over in the edge of Arkansas, in the cotton fields, which is one part of my life I would like to forget. Anyway, we were low in ammunition for hunting and we went to town in a jeep to get some. There was only one store there and a park like thing in front of it. There was a really small dog there, about the size of a squirrel, and one of the gang was joking about getting the dog and take him rabbit hunting.

The rest of us laughed and thought it was funny. He did get the dog and put it in the jeep, and we got the ammunition and proceeded to go hunting. When we got to the place we were going to hunt, we were still making fun of the little dog and laughing about it, knowing he would not chase a rabbit. The boy that caught the little dog sat him down and he started running down a row of cotton. He came up on a patch of grass and jumped in the middle of it, and caught a rabbit and held on to him, with the rabbit dragging him down the row of cotton. He held him until we got there and got the rabbit.

Gran Ma Ma

Hi, Hillary Beth here!  My Gran Ma Ma emails me all the time and encourages me and tells me about when she was little.  So, I'd like to honor her as the very first ever Star of the Month for Godly Girls For God!  This is what my Gran Ma Ma wrote me about her childhood.

I grew up with a loving mother and father, our family consisted of two half brothers, a dog, and a mean old goose named Pete. Back then we had an out house for a bathroom; whenever we had to visit one would have to carry a stick or broom to fight Pete off as he would take off after us as quick as we set foot out the door.

One thing I always hated was having to drop beans and corn each spring when it was time to plant our garden. To this day, I hate anything pertaining to gardening.

We lived around the corner from a movie theater, and I would slip off and sneak in to watch movies. One of my brothers would be sent to find me. One time I was crossing the street and was hit by a car, but other than being thrown some distance, I did not suffer any apparent injuries.

Once I started school we had to walk quite a distance, so my brothers took turns carrying me at times. One day while at school we saw smoke and in the distance we knew that it was coming from the direction of our house. We lost everything other than my Mother's sewing machine which she carried from the fire herself, amazing the strength one has at a time like this. Our family Bible also survived. We lived with my grandparents till the house was rebuilt.

A few years later I was running from my mother to keep from a spanking (for what reason I don't remember).  My father and another person were digging a cistern which is a very deep hole that was dug and lined with cement for our water supply. I ran and jumped into the hole and landed on his back, thank goodness he was lighting a cigarette or I could have ended up on the end of a huge pick instrument that he was using to dig the hole. Of course, this did not work; I still got the spanking.

I can't ever remember a spanking from my father other than one time I talked back to him for loaning my bicycle to someone. One lesson I learned was never to sass my father, who was the best a little girl could ever have.  I still miss having him around.

All and all I guess one might say I had a very interesting childhood at times.
