Friends
By: Courtney S.

Friends are there when no one else seems to care,

Friends believe in you and take interest in most things you do,

Friends help you follow your dreams and share memories,

Friends love you for you.

Friends are forever true, even though their connections can become blue,

Friends sometimes must move on;

Maybe due to a move, sadly they may die, or strangely they just stop coming by.

So whether you’re a boy or a girl, hug your friends, laugh with your friends, and strive to be a great friend.

Like Jesus has always been.

Facing Summer
by Amadj

Its summer babyy!!!
There are so many things things to do and people to see! But in doing that there are a bunch of obstacles to overcome. Whether you have a baby in the house, an ill relative, or personal problems of your own, know that everything will work out. Everything happens for a reason; I believe that strongly. I believe everything is a test from God. Summer time is free time to plan, set goals, and pray. Having the gift to see the good beyond the bad is a extrodinary gift. No matter what challenge that you are going through, there is always at the end - and not all the darkness in the world can extinguish the light of a single candle (-Frances of Assisi). And remember every 60 seconds of regret is a minute of life that you can never get back. Its summer! Let's party like its 1990!

Summer!
by Lizzy

Hey everyone! Summer's almost here! Isn't it great? I love the thought of sleeping in and swimming and just spending some really good time with friends.
BUT!!

Summer isn't over yet.

We still have so many opportunities open to us to minister to the friends at school that don't know Jesus!!!!

Also we still have all kinds of things coming up.

I would personally like to thank the Lord for his many many blessings.

You see,

my eighth grade graduation is May 13th. I found out that I am valedictorian!!!

God has blessed me so much with so many opportunities and doors and windows WIDE OPEN!!!

So getting to my point,

I want to hear about the way God has blessed your life in school or church or anything else. It's way refreshing to hear and see what God is doing somewhere else in the world.

thanks bunches!!!!

Unique Ways to Serve God

There are many ways to serve God! Some people think of serving God only as doing things at church, like teaching Sunday School or preaching or singing in the choir. Those are very good things, but not everyone teaches, preaches, and sings. It seems that God has placed many talents in each person's life and together, as we make up the Church, we represent absolutely endless possibilities of serving Him in ways that He's gifted us to glorify Him! Let's look at some specifics here.

One way to serve God is just the little things.

"Some of my favorite ways to serve God are just doing little things - like picking up someone's keys in the grocery store or sometimes just smiling and giving a kind word to someone. Something my friend and I thought of the other days was this: A man loading a vending machine told us it was nice to see smiling faces on a Monday because no one is usually happy on Mondays. Although we didn't think of it then, we came up with something we could have said back: 'We smile on Mondays because the day before is Sunday; that's the best day of our week!' If he'd asked why, we could have said 'Because we get to worship God together on Sundays.'" ~Speaker~

Another way to serve God is through dance. We know there are many of you who dance that visit GGFG! We also know (some from experience) that it can be hard to stay with purity in song choice and dance moves in dance studios sometimes. This next segment can be encouragement for you.

"I go to a Christian ballet school.  So every year for our recital we do something that glorifies God.  It's usually something like a Bible story...a few years ago we did the Crucifixion and Resurrection.  Also the Bible talks about praising God through dance, and I absolutely love to dance, so I always view my dancing as a way to glorify God.  I also dance at church sometimes and it's always to Christian, Christ-like music...that's another great way to glorify God with the movement of your body.  A way to use dancing to the glory of God is to remember every time you dance that God made you able to move...so don't do anything that wouldn't glorify him in your movements."    ~Dancer~

A third awesome and unique way to serve God is through artistic expressions such as designing things and making things. Art inspires people and gets their attention. What your art says and what you use it for can make all the difference! Matched with a heart fully devoted to God, artwork can be such a powerful tool in God's hands!

"I have served God in many different ways. One of the most unique ways I have served God is through my creativity. I work with children in my church, so of course creativity is essential. One year for a carnival I was given the assignment of designing a booth. Many kids went through that booth, and each and every child that passed through I treated them as though they were the most important thing in the world. Every child had a smile on their face after they left my booth. The kids were touched by the creativity of my booth and the love that was in my heart." ~Creative Girl~

A simple statement or challenge can be something that points to the Lord as well! This idea ties in with the one right before it -

"Drawing pictures of God or angels or even people and writing 'Jesus loves you!' or 'WWJD?' on it. Well that's my idea!" ~Artist~

This is what I'll leave you with - the list could be endless, and we'd love for you to add to this article. Even if you don't write something up about what you do that's unique, know that God has gifted you and do use those gifts to show others who God is and what He's done today! You are never too young, or too inexperienced to start!

5 Funny Things to do With Friends
By: Courtney
1. Madlibs
Madlibs are fun ways to get your friends laughing. You can rent some madlib books from the library or look online.

2.Don't Laugh!
Here is a fun game that me and my friends made up. Pick some one to be the "clown" the other people are "statues". The statues should all stand in a row facing the clown. The clown will go to each and every person and try to make them laugh. The statue's goal is to not laugh. Keep playing to all the statues "crack" up laughing. The last statue standing wins.

3. Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall, Who's the Silliest of them all?
In this funny game,  all of the people seperate into groups of 2. One person is the model and the other is the mirror. The model's goal is to make the mirrior laugh. Keep on going until only 2 people are left.

4. The Joke Machine
To play this game sit in a circle with the "Joke Machine" in the middle. The Joke machine will pick a type of joke (eg. knock, knock or riddle). They won't tell anyone. The "Joke Maker" will pick the person to be the "joke begginer" each person will pick a word. When they're done, the "Joke Machine" will read the joke.

5. Silly Tounge Twisters
Sit down with a bunch of friends and make up some silly tounge twisters. I enjoy doing this at my drama club at church.

Celebrity Crushes

Good or Bad?

 By: Courtney S.

“I love Miranda!” whispers Zac Efron just as he’s about to kiss you. Beep! Beep! Your alarm rings and brings you back to reality. Has this happened to you? I know it’s happened to me. What is it? It’s a celebrity crush. Almost every girl aged 8 & above has had one. But, that’s not where there is controversy the controversy is: Okay or Not Okay. Some people say that as Christians we should think of all guys as brothers not as a cute movie star. Others say it’s a natural part of growing up. Hey, it’s not the kids fault the media makes them look “perfect” so that girls will fall in “love” with them. What do I think? I think there’s a happy balance to everything. I don’t that there’s anything wrong fantasizing that you’re married to the star or even pretending that you are. But, I think if you start dwelling on it all the time that it starts problems. People really start falling in love with these people. What most people don’t understand that just because Zac Efron plays as Troy Bolton that that is who he is. Zac Efron believes that it’s impossible for there to be a God. So what do you think? Please leave a comment below and let me know what you think.

Celebrity Crushes

By Hillary Beth

We all need heros, rold models, and examples to follow. A good movie or show can inspire and motivate us. A good guy in a story can even possibly allow you to form your opinion of guys in real life - the kind that you would want to someday marry. But where's the line between admiration and idolatry?

The Bible prohibits idolatry, yet today it is largely unrecognized as idolatry to be obsessed with the stars.

1 Samuel 12:21
Do not turn away after useless idols. They can do you no good, nor can they rescue you, because they are useless.

Fantasizing can lead to sinning in your heart. Daydreaming can take over your real life.

Proverbs 12:11 He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment. Proverbs 28:19 He who works his land will have abundant food, but the one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.

Being a huge fan can even damage your testimony; as a Child of God your testimony is very precious to you, and you don't want to hurt it. Think about it, if you are always talking about a celebrity, it can make you look like you are just like the rest of the world, no difference at all.

2 Kings 17:15
{The Israelites} rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their fathers and the warnings he had given them. They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the LORD had ordered them, "Do not do as they do," and they did the things the LORD had forbidden them to do.

My charge to you: Be very careful of how much you think about, how detailed you get about, and how much you talk about those who are famous. Remember that they are just human, too! The only one who is deserving of your obsession, would be God.

Let us always say,

"Give us clean hands, give us pure hearts, let us not lift our soul to another/Oh God, let us be a generation that seeks, seeks Your Face, Oh God of Jacob/We bow our hearts, we bend our knees, oh Spirit come make us humble, We turn our eyes from evil things, Lord we cast out our idols! Give us clean hands, give us pure hearts."

How To Be BFF's With Your Dad
By: Courtney S.

If you're like me, a total girly-girl. Then it's probably hard sometimes to hang out with your dad. In this arcticle I'm going to give you some of the tips that help me find time to hang out with your dad.

1. Ask Questions.
Like anyone else you've probably met. Ask him questions. My dad loves sports. So, I personally do not like sports and am a total klutz when it comes to sports. I take out the time to sit down and watch sports with my dad. I ask him lots of questions. So that I can learn about the sport and actually I've come to like some of them. So that's one way that I can connect with my dad.

2. Just Talk
Sometimes just talking will tell you more about a person than you'd ever think. Lately me and my talk about the election a lot. We share points of view and discuss. We don't always agree with one another, but that's okay. We respect eachother's point of view.

Basically,
To be BFF's with your dad, you just need to get to know him. Learn from him, and he'll teach you a lot. After all, he'll help you know what to look for in the guy who'll be your husband someday.
God Bless,
Courtney S.

8 Ways to Share During Winter

by Allison

Ever feel like you should be doing more to spread God's love? I know I have! Here are 6 ways to spread the love of Jesus right now!

 1.  Smile! Your joyfull countanence and energy for Christ will be contagious and people will want to have that!

2.  Hand out and share tracts with others. Tracts are small booklets that share the Gospel in a thouroh and brief way. Hand them to cashiers, waiters, friends, teachers or any one you run into. Write your own or buy some at www.livingwaters.com

3.  Talk to salespeople and telemarketers on the phone. Talk to them and when they ask you if there is anything else they can help you with begin to share the Gospel.

4.  Go on a spring break missions trip. Many churches have missions trips over spring break, instead of wasting your break watching TV go and share with someone who hasn't heard. You'll be glad you did! If your church isn't having a missions trip talk to your youth pastor about having one in the future.

5.  Put together a survey with questions such as, "What do you think will happen to you when you go to heaven?" or "Do you consider yourself a good person?" (after this question go through the ten commandments asking them if they've lied, cursed, etc. then tell them they've proved they aren't a good person but there's hope!). These questions lead to good conversations.

6.  Get together with some friends and go talk to people in your neighborhood.

7.  Go to a nursing home and sing hymns, share some hot chocolate and the Gospel.

8.  Volunteer in your church's nursery. Share God's love to them through hugs, games and Bible stories.

I hope this has inspired you with some different ways you can go and spread the love of God with others even if you are still in school. You will be rewarded!

Money, Money, Money!

Learn how to earn, save, & spend wisely!

By: Courtney S.

Do you find yourself constantly asking your mom for money? Or whenever you get money it's gone within a week? Or when you try to save for something, instead of saving it you find yourself at the shoe store in the mall?

Hi, I'm Courtney and if you said yes to any of these questions this article is for you. Now don't feel bad, everyone has done it I know I have. In this article I'm not going to chastise you or try to say what I think will make you happy. I'm going to tell you the facts. I will do this in 3 easy and simple steps. So are you ready to take the challenge? If so let's get started!

1. Earning Money

In order to learn how to manage money you will have to have money first. So I will give you some fun, simple ways to earn money.

1.Lemonade Sell

Although most people stop having lemonade sells after elementary school, it works! Especially if you add cookies or brownies or other treats. Another item you could sell with the lemonade, is potato chips. Potato chips usually make people thirsy and they're not that expensive! Especially if you buy the jumbo bag. So although the lemonade is 25 or 50 cents, if people buy the chips they'll get thirst and hopefully come back for more.

2. Babysitting

Babysitting is a great way to make some extra change. You can look in your local phone book and call a few babysitting agencies to check there prices then you can charge about half the price that they charge. When go to the home you will be babysitting at, be sure to tell them all of your concerns, what you will and won't do, and be sure that you're clear on what time they will return home. Be sure to use great eye contact, speak clearly, and politely. If the child misbehaves,  when the parents return be sure to continue to be polite, but firm enough to get your point across. This way parents will feel that you are honest. Parents appreciate honest babysitters.

3. Talent Based Jobs

If you have a special talent that you can teach to others such as: Piano (or other instruments), Spanish (or other foreign languages), How to fix computers, How to babysit, etc. You can make a little more money than in the other jobs. Especially if you have a resonable price.

2. Saving

Now that you know how to earn money let's talk about saving the money you earn. You should set a budget of how much money to save. There are several ways you can save. Here are the 3 main ones:

1. You can keep your money in a money jar. As long as you won't touch it until you've reached your saving goal.

2. You can open a checking account. Just don't write a check until your goal is met.

3. If you're like me, and you know that the other 2 won't work. Then open up a savings account. Like the checking account you can put a little money into it at a time and when your goal is met, then you can take out the money.

3. Spending

Now that you know how to earn money and save it, the fun part has arrived: Spending!!!!!!  But here are a few rules:

1. Before you go shopping be sure you have in mind what you're shopping for.

2. Don't go shopping just to go shopping. Because if you do then you'll end up wasting your money.

3. If you didn't save for anything in particular and you see the latest fad, don't buy it unless you're sure you want it. A big fad in my neighborhood are the Webkinz by Ganz. People have spent tons of money on the stuffed animals that become virtual pets. So when you go shopping don't be foolish.

4. Depending on what you're buying, you made need to do some price shopping. If you've never had the item before, then you might want to ask your friends who have it how they like it where they gor there's etc.

5. Just because something is the most expensive or the cheapest dosen't mean it's the best or the best deal. I usually go somewhere in the middle. Unless it's something like a video game system and they're all a Nintendo DS Lite one just cost more than the other.

The Finish Line

You did it! You made it to the financial finish line! You've learned how to Earn, Save, & Spend Wisely!

Happy Earning, Saving, & Spending!
