So Good

by April

Chapter One – New School

Beep, beep, beep! My alarm clock woke me to a dark, gloomy morning. Augh! I really don’t want to get up this morning, I thought as I got awoke. I have to go to a new school this morning. Why did we have to move? Why couldn’t we have stayed back in Frankfurt? Augh!

I threw the covers back and got out of bed. I immediately started shivering. Dad forgot to pay the heat bill. Again! No, this was not the first time he had forgotten. He forgot a couple times in Frankfurt, too. I got on my clothes as fast as I could and headed to the kitchen for breakfast.

Ah, that feels better, I thought, as I ate my hot strawberry and cream oatmeal. I was warmed to the bone, for now. The warmth ended all too quickly when I set foot outside in the freezing, icy, yucky world to wait for the bus. Frankfurt was so much better; I didn’t have to stand outside in the cold.

“Hurry up,” I mumbled into the darkness. Good, there it is I thought to myself. I jumped onto the bus, just to find it was as cold as the outside. Augh! Why does everything have to be so cold! My teeth were chattering so hard I struggled to keep my mouth closed.

I hope school is warmer, if not…. Let’s just say that would be really, really bad. I’d probably come home with pneumonia. Then my parents could sue, and with the money they have, we could move back to Frankfurt. No, that’s ridiculous, I’m just homesick.

“It’s time to get off, little missy.” The bus driver said.

“Oh, thank you.” I guess I was so lost in thought that I didn’t notice us pull up to the school, not to mention all the kids getting off the bus.

“Here goes nothing.” I whispered as I started for the steps. Wow, there are so many kids. Dude, that girl is wearing a mini-skirt and a tank top! Wait, there are four girls all dressed like it’s the middle of summer when it’s the middle of winter!

My thoughts were interrupted by the bell ringing.  I’d better hurry; I don’t want to be late for….. Let’s see……Ah, Ms. Sanders Math class. It took me a while to find it on my schedule. Good, I’m glad I have Math first, since it’s my favorite subject. I sure do hope she’s nice, if not, this could be one bad year.

It turned out that Ms. Sanders was really nice. She made Math more fun than it already was. The homework was a lot, though. I have to do fifty problems by Wednesday, that’s just two days from now. My next class is English. Oh, it’s not my favorite subject, but I guess it’s alright. My teacher will be Ms. Owen; I hope she will be as nice as Ms. Sanders.

Well, that wasn’t so bad. Not as much homework as Math, luckily. Ms. Owen was okay she wasn’t as nice as Ms. Sanders, though. Ms. Owen is nothing like my English teacher back in Frankfurt. He was mean and hateful, plus he was a guy. I think I favor women teachers over men teachers.

Oh no, I thought as I looked at my schedule. Gym, oh how I hate Gym. First there’s the fact that I’m not very athletic. Then there’s the locker room, for some very obvious reasons. I grabbed my clothes and ran to the gym, in hopes of getting there first. I think everyone else had the same idea, for when I got there; there were already a lot of girls in there. Chills went all the way down my back. Why did we have to change, no, why do we have too have Gym.

After Gym, the day went all down hill. I dropped my lunch, went in the wrong classroom, and my mom forgot to pick me, so instead of picking me up at three she picked me up at five. Why me? Why does the bad stuff have to happen too me? Then, that night on top of everything else, my mom announced that she was pregnant with her second child.

Chapter Two – The Stranger

I put on a smile and gave my mom a hug, all the while wondering, how in the world, we were going to manage with another child, because we were already struggling as it is. We’ll make it, we always have and always will, and as long as we’re together we’ll make it.

At supper I noticed my mom didn’t eat much and she looked pale, so I offered to do the dishes. After the dishes were washed and dried I started on my homework. I looked up at the clock, and what seemed as a few minutes, turned out to be a few hours, eleven o ‘clock to be exact.  I have twenty more problems in Math. Augh, how I despise homework, even Math. I started working again, but I drifted, unaware, to a gentle, peaceful sleep.

Beep, beep, beep, I was awakened to the shrewd sound of my alarm clock. I hit snooze and drifted back into my peaceful slumber.

Elizabeth I thought you were already at school. What are you doing asleep?”

     “Hmm. What?”

Elizabeth get up you’re going to be late for school. Get up and get ready, and I’ll drive you to school.”

“Okay, I’m going.” I got up and got dressed, grabbed my unfinished homework, and headed out the door.  I hope I won’t get in trouble for not doing my homework. Ms. Sanders seems nice enough maybe she’ll let me pass this time because I’m new.

    “Bye mom.”

    “Bye sweetie.”

I started jogging up the stairs as soon as she said bye. I opened the door and was rushing to history (math was transferred to second block, thankfully) when suddenly, I crashed into someone or something, and on the way down I twisted my ankle.  I looked up to see a boy (or should I say man) looking over at me like a confused puppy. He jumped up and offered his hand to help me up.

    “Are you okay?”

“I’m not sure.”  I said as tried to get up, but failed.

“Here I’ll help you to the nurse’s office.” He put my arm over his shoulder to take off some of the weight off my ankle.

“I’m so sorry. I should have watched where I was going.”

“Hey, it’s no biggie. Getting hit by a senior on my way to Physics put a little adventure in my life for a change.”

I was glad he took it so well.

“Where were you headed in such a hurry, if you don’t mind me asking?”

   “History, I slept in late.”

“Were you doing Math homework for Ms. Sanders?”

“Yeah, I was actually. How’d you know?”

“I have her too. Pretty tough, huh?”

“Not too bad, more than my school back in Frankfurt, though.”

“Oh, so that’s where you’re from. My cousins live up near there. Oh, here’s your stop. It was nice meeting you.”

“See ya.” Then he was gone and I didn’t even have a name to go with the face of this kind stranger.

“What do we have here?” My thoughts were interrupted by the nurse and the pain in my ankle took my thoughts off the ‘’kind stranger” for a while. My ankle was only sprained, and my mom came and picked me up. Well, at least now I don’t have to worry about my Math homework.

My ankle healed and I was back in school. Those girls I saw on the first day of school, they’re actually a “clique” they call them the “mean girls” and I hopefully won’t find out why. Mom isn’t looking so well, she gets short of breath quickly and looks really pale. Augh, I wish I could find out what his name is. I never got to thank him.

Chapter Three – Making Enemies

It happened, my first encounter with the “mean girls.” It was awful! I was in the cafeteria; I had just gotten my lunch and sat down, when I saw them, not to far from me. Please, oh please, don’t let them come over here, I thought. They moved a little closer, I winced. Then they stopped, and started pointing (at me) and then they started walking over this time all the way over.

“Ooh, you’re shirt is so….so….What’s the word I’m looking for? Hideous!”

“You wouldn’t catch me in that, ever.”

“Oh, did your mommy pack your lunch? How sweet, oh and she even left you a little note, too. Everybody, Elizabeth’s mommy packs her lunch and even sends her a little note, too!” She shouted and the whole cafeteria burst into laughs. Then they were gone. Never, never in my life had anybody been that rude to me before. Then while I was in thought he walked up.

  “You okay?”

“Yeah.” I said trying to hold back tears.

“They can be pretty harsh. I never said my name; I’m Jeff Miles.”

  “Elizabeth Jenkins.“

  “Mind if I sit here?”

  “Go ahead.”

  “Your ankle’s fine, I see.”

  “Yep. Just sprained.”

We just sat there talking and eating, when I was talking he’d listen, and when he was talking I’d listen. I even told him about my mom’s decline in health, I had not shared that with anyone. He was so kind and understanding.

“Oh, and thanks for everything.” I said as the bell rung.

   “No biggie. See you around.”

Then he was gone, at least now I had a name to go with the gentle face. When I got home I told my mom about all that had happened. She still looked pale and sickly, but when I asked her about it she said she’d be fine.

The next couple of days at school Jeff started sitting with me at lunch. I really enjoyed his company, and I think he enjoyed mine. We’d talk, eat and laugh. He made my days so much better. My mother continued to worsen and I continued to worry. I was so concerned. She was my rock, I could tell her almost anything, and then she’d give me good advice.

“Hey Lizzie”. That was my new nickname that Jeff had given me. “My church is having a youth game day and I was wondering if you’d like to care to come?”

        “Uh, I guess.”

“Okay. I’ll pick you up tomorrow at 12.”

        “See ya!”

        “See ya!”

Mmm, church, I wonder what that’s like. I thought to myself. I mean I’m a good person but our family just doesn’t go to church. Oh well it’s just game day. It’s not like there’ll be a sermon and stuff. When I got I told Mom about it and she seemed okay with me going and I was so glad.

Beep! Beep! I heard the car horn outside and rushed to put on my shoes.

      “Hey, beautiful day isn’t it?”

       “Yeah!”

      “Well let’s go.”

We talked a little on the way. In about 15 minutes we were there and there were teens everywhere. I saw 2 kids from school. They began with prayer. We then played a lot of different games. Jeff was good to stay with me and introduce me to the others that he knew. Later after the games we ate supper. Pizza was the main course. Then some guy came out and gave about 30 minute devotion. He explained of how the only way to Heaven was to accept Jesus as our personal savior. I didn’t really understand what it was all about.

After the games I got home around 7pm.Mom asked if I had a good time.” Yeah and look the guy who spoke gave me a little Bible.”

“Oh that was a nice thing for him to do. I’m glad you had a good time “said Mom.”Goodnight!”

When I got up to my room I sat down on the end of my bed and opened up my neat little Bible. At the back it told you how to be saved. I thought about what the speaker had said earlier and thought that maybe tomorrow I’d ask Jeff what it meant exactly. It was late so I decided to turn in for the night.

Come back for Chapter 4 next week!

Born of the Stars: The Stranger at the Door

by Elizabeth O.

Chapter 1: The Dream

Once upon a time, in the faraway planet of Erimin, there lived a 13 year old girl named Hannah Kisri. Hannah was just like any other girl; she had her own habits and dreams, however, there was one difference. Hannah was an orphan. From what she had heard, her mother had died in childbirth and her father... well... she had never heard anyone talk about him for some reason. At an early age she was found and brought to Meganton Orphanage. Out of all the hundreds of girls
at Meganton, only three others had never known their parents. Those
were Hannah's friends: Ezri, Kerin, and Audrie. Audrie was Hannah's BF and bunkmate. Enough details, let's get to it. I'll start out at the very beginning:

Fire. Smoke. Starships. Hannah was asleep one Friday morning with the best and worst dream she had ever had. She was with this man, not too young and not too old, and they had a starship and some kind of sword. They were fighting an enemy troop who wanted to take over a planet... it looked like Erimin. The head of the evil force beckoned her to him, and she walked to him. He lifted his sword, an angry snarl on his face, and... BZZZZZINNGG!!!!! Hannah awoke to a bell. She was still half asleep, with the battle scene still raging on inside of her, but she started to gather her senses. Time to get dressed.

Suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, a hand rested on her shoulder. She was about to scream, but then stopped
herself when she realized it was Audrie. "Hannah, you ok? You fell asleep with your eyes open, like you were in
some sort of trance." Said Audrie. Audrie Mohonogon was always having trances, so Hannah became worried. Was she, Hannah, in a trance? Was it supposed to happen... to her? She did not answer Audrie and got dressed just in time for the second bell. Along with many others, Hannah raced down the stairs to the 2nd floor to claim her meal. If you hadn't claimed a meal by the third bell, no breakfast for you. After Hannah claimed her meal, the third bell sounded, sending a bunch of hungry girls back up the stairs. She sat down next to Ezri Potterest and Kerin Milan.

"Where's Audrie?" Hannah asked.

"She didn't claim her food and was sent up. That stupid Lyn person pushed
her down." Kerin said.

"I just want to... argh... do something to that 'Lyn Kengard'!" said Ezri.

"Excuse me?" a voice asked. They looked up.Lyn was standing right over them.

"You know, you little girls, a visitor is coming tonight? Mr. Kail. He is going to spend a month here and I bet you all my clothes and money that he will like me best." Lyn said.

"I'll take that bet." Hannah said."I bet my bunkrights that he will not like you at all." For some reason, Hannah could almost feel when something was going to happen, and was correct 99% of the time.

"Excuse me, little Hannie, I need to eat." Lyn said, going off to her table with the rest of the popular group. Lyn was the "President and Founder" of that group, wich consisted of Christin Baret, Jenna Aur, Luise Achilles, Belinda Bayne, and Cybil Amthyst. Cybil Amthyst used to be Hannah's BF, before Lyn decieved her. She was a great pal, but all she
thought about now were her clothes and hair.

"Don't let her get to you. Ignore her. There probably is no Mr. Kail coming anyhow." Kerin said.

"No, Kerry." Hannah said,"You see, I had this trance last night. Mr. Kail will be the evil one. He will beckon me and kill me." She sighed.

Kerin and Ezri looked at each other, then laughed. "Oh, come on, Hannah! Don't be so dramatic. Worst thing that could happen would probably be Mr. Kail falling in love with Lyn and deciding to adopt her." Karen giggled."That would get her off our tail, she wouldn't even be here anymore!"

Hannah thought about that. It could be part of the 1% of the time she was wrong. Who knows? Hannah looked out the window. This was going to be an interesting night.

Chapter 2: Mr. Kail

It was after lunch and Hannah Kisri was trying hard to stay awake in Astronomy Class. The teacher, Miss Hilmann, was a very boring, mean and stupid teacher. No wonder she had never gotten married.

"Now-Hannah-what-is-our-neighboring-nebula?" Said Miss Hilmann in hernormal monotonous tone.

"Miss Hilmann, ma'am, Neptune, Miss Hilmann, ma'am." Replied Hannah. For some reason, Miss Hilmann insisted that when they answer her, to say "Miss Hilmann , ma'am" before and after the answer. If you forgot, she would pitch a fit. Also, as you noticed, Neptune is not our neighboring nebula, but remember what I said, Miss Hilmann is dumb....

"Now-Ezri-what-is-our-neighboring-country?" Asked Miss Hilmann.

"Aungaungie, Miss Hilmann, ma'am. No, I mean..."

"AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" Screamed Miss Hilmann, kicking her feet in the air,"You-forgot-to-say it-before-Aungaungie!!! Get-out!!!" Knock, knock, knock. The class ran out of their desks, and tried to peer through a single window to see the door-keeper, Miss Jubarr, open the door for a tall, handsome, blonde young man.

"Hello, Mr. Kail." The headmistress of the orphanage, Miss Aylen, said, bowing in the traditional Eriminian fashion. "Quite unexpected, really, Mr. Kail. You were scheduled for 32 seconds after 7:01 PM sharp..."

"Yes, Yes, I know. It is just that you will let me see all the children, so that I will be able to figure out which one I may adopt after my visit." Mr. Kail said, waving his hand in front of her face. Hannah giggled. Did he think that she was asleep?

Miss Aylen bowed again and said, "Now I will let you see all the children, so you may take your pick on whom you shall adopt after your visit."

Mr. Kail stared intently at the hundreds of girls who had ran down to see who was at the door. Hannah shuddered as he started staring in her direction. She could almost feel his eyes, staring at her. Then she remembered her dream. This Mr. Kail was the head of the evil army. Wasn't he?

"Yvonne Aylen, I have made my choice." Mr. Kail said, looking over in the headmistress's direction.

"Mr. Kail, how did you know that my first name was Yvonne? I did not tell you..."

"Lucky guess, Yvonnne. I shall be having dinner tonight in my room with Hannah Kisri. I would like to know her better."
Hannah's eyes went wide open. Uh oh. Now she was in for it. She started slowly back to her class with the rest of her classmates, but she then turned around and ran in Lyn's direction.

"Bring your clothes and money to my room..." Hannah said.

"What are you talking about, little Hannie?" Lyn asked.

"Remember, we made a bet. He is gonna adopt me, and now you forfeit your clothes and money."

Lyn sneered, "Alright then, you little monster, but I will make sure your new popular face gets crushed in the ground before you are able to leave." Hannah shrugged and ran back to her class up the stairs. On the stairs, Hannah tripped and was about to fall back, but Mr. Kail, still in his position by the door, put out a hand. The air seemed to turn into a soft
matress, back to the stairs. She looked at him. he put his hand back in his pocket. There she was, looking at the enemy of her trance, the one that would bring her life to an end, Mr. Kail.

Chapter 3: Hwen Juaine

It was dinnertime at Meganton. Mr. Kail had insisted that he and Hannah eat alone in a separate room one Friday. Hannah finished her soup and went over to check out the money and clothes that she had won from Lyn.

“Sit down, Hannah. We need to... talk.” Mr. Kail said. Hannah was helpless. She had to. She walked over to Mr. Kail. “Yes?”

“All this might be too much to comprehend, but you will understand in time. First of all, you are not Hannah Kisri.” Mr. Kail said. Hannah put a strange look on her face.

“Excuse me?” Hannah asked.

“You are Hwen Juaine. You are a Jedi.”

Now Hannah was REALLY confused. “Say what?”

“Well you are not a Jedi... not yet anyway. Your parents were Koe-yin and Jaela Juaine. Koe-yin is still alive, but Jaela died fighting Darth Amadar. Anyway, the Candorians are in a desperate situation right now. You must come with me to Candor." Mr. Kail stood up and started to leave, thinking that Hannah would follow. Hannah just sat down and stared at him.

“Come on, Hwen. Here,” Mr. Kail said.

“Wait.” Hannah said.”Can Audrie Mohonogon come too?”

“Your friend?” Mr. Kail asked.

“Yes, Mr. Kail, sir. Please?” Hannah asked.

“No.” Mr. Kail said simply. “Hwen, many things will change once we reach Candor. We must accept change. It is the first lesson all Jedis must learn. Change can be irritating, but we mustn't let it go as far to rule our every motion. Don't let it get in your way. At the moment, there are more important things to be delt with. The Capital Outer-Rim Planet, Candor, is being subdued by the dark side, city after city. The Candorian capital city, Vemblinn, is under attack. If they take Vemblinn the will have conquered all of Candor.”

“But...” Hannah sniffled,”Audrie is my best friend. She is like a sister.”

“A Jedi life is not Audrie's future. It would destroy her. You will see her again, however. Do not fret.”

“May I say good-bye, at least, Mr. Kail?” Hannah asked.

“Yes.” Mr. Kail answered. Hannah got up and started walking to Audrie's bunk.

“Oh, and Hwen?” Mr. Kail said. Hannah turned slowly around to face him.

“Yes?”

“You can call me Jominde.” Mr. Kail said.

Hannah nodded, then walked out the door. She had always dreamed of becoming a Jedi, but, in those dreams, Audrie was always fighting alongside her. It was very hard, for Hannah especially, to accustome to change. We must accept change. It is the first lesson all Jedis must learn. Jominde's voice echoed in her mind.

I'll try, sir. Hannah promised to herself. Soon, she found herself at Room #251. She took a big breath,
then entered the room. Audrie was in her bed, reading a book. When Audrie heard the door open, she turned her head to look at Hannah. She had a sad expression on her face.

“Yes, I know Hannah. Go.” Audrie said. She turned back to her book.

“But, Audrie... I was going to say g-”

“Don't bother about that. Go.”

Hannah turned back, tears in her eyes. She started slowly down the stairs where Mr. Kail, or Jominde, was going to spend the night. Suddenly, out of nowhere, someone popped out from behind curtain and pounced on her. It was Jenna Aur.

Jenna Aur?! Jenna started punching Hannah in the nose, and was acting like it was the best thing in the world. Hannah put out her hand to stop a punch to the eye and suddenly, without warning, Jenna flew backward
against the wall. Hannah stood up quickly and stared with bewilderness. Hannah hadn't even touched Jenna. Then from across the room, Cybil and Belinda jumped out and chased her. Hannah held out her hand again, but
nothing happened. Then she started running, too.

Chapter 4: Of Lightsabers and Mind Tricks

Hannah ran as fast as her legs could carry her, down the stairs, and towards Mr. Kail's room. Then, all too sudden, she bumped into Jominde Kail. Mr. Kail? What was he doing here? She ran behind Jominde, just as he took out and activated a device of some sort. A soft, blue light emerged from it. Cybil and Belinda screamed and ran off. Hannah couldn't help but giggle. She had never seen Cybil and Belinda so frightened since... since... since  NEVER! Then Hannah looked back at
the blue light that was quickly fading as Jominde deactivated it. It looked strangely familiar... then Hannah remembered.

Her dream. The man she was with in her dream ha the exact same color sword-thing. Same hilt. Same length. Hannah gasped. If he was her friend in the dream, who was the evil one? Jaela died fighting Darth Amadar. She recalled what Jominde had said. Darth Amadar. It only made too much sense. The evil one was Darth Amadar. The planet they were trying to save was Candor. When she turned back to look at Jominde, he was staring at her.

“You alright, Hwen?”
“Yes, Jominde, sir.”

“I sense bewilderness in you. What happened?”

“I...” Hannah stumbled,”I held out my hand to stop Jenna from punching my eye and suddenly she, like, flew backwards into the wall. I didn't even touch her!”

Jominde smiled. “That was the Force.”

“Oh.” Hannah said. “Jominde, sir. What was that blue sword thing you took
out? I saw it in a dream of mine...”

“We'll discuss that later.” Jominde said,”Right now, you need to prepare for the trip to Candor. We will leave in... 5 hours, in cover of darkness.”

“We are leaving so soon?” Hannah asked.”But how will you get past Mz. Habben? She watches to make sure no one goes out unless with permission of Miss Jubarr, or if they are adopted....”

“Leave that to me.” Jominde said.

5 hours later, Jominde and Hannah crawled out of their beds and into the hall.

“Stand up.” Jominde said, ”Like your mother, Jaela Juaine, used to say, 'In an environment where you do not wish to be noticed, it would be better to walk tall. Lurking and crawling in the shadows would arouse the suspicions
of those you are hiding from.'”

Hannah nodded, then stood up. She still had no idea how they could get past Mz. Habben, let alone be zoomed into outer space. Erimin was a planet that was very behind in technology, and the Eriminians were still
trying to figure out how to be zoomed out, and safely into, of the planet's atmosphere. Hannah's head was bursting with questions, but she held her mouth shut. They made it down the stairs, and then walked right up to Mz. Habben. She yawned, but when she saw them, she stood bolt upright and blocked the door.

“Mr. Kail. You can only bring Hannah out with permission of Miss Jubarr, or if you are adopting her. An adoption will cost 656 Erimincashes...”

Jominde waved his hand near Mz. Habben's head and said, ”She can go out without head permission.”

“Hannah can go out without head permission.” Mz. Habben said dazily.

“You will open the door.”

“I will open the door.”

Mz. Habben opened the door. Hannah and Jominde stepped out into the cold, night streets of the Eriminian city of Meganton.  Hannah breathed in the fresh air. She looked around at Jominde.

“Uh, Jominde, sir. Where is your ship? I hope you brought one because you won't find any here in Erimin.” Hannah said.

“My ship is right there.” Jominde said, pointing to a darkened, empty park. Hannah stared. The only thing she saw was a field.

“Am I going blind?” Hannah asked Jominde slowly. He smiled.

“No, Hwen. Look harder.” He said, pointing towards the middle of the field. She looked again.

“I don't... wait a moment.” she said, ”In the middle of the field the cattails are crushed.” She gasped, ”I get it, now! Your ship is invisible!”

Jominde smiled, and took out a pen from his pocket
“You are correct.” He stated.

Then, pressing on one end of the pen, the invisible starship became slowly visible.  On the side of the ship, in bold letters, were the words “SS Harmony.”

“A  Cloaker YW7 Nubien.” Jominde said,”Very proud of her. This way, 'Hwen Juaine of Abarisk.'”

Hannah and Jominde walked side-by-side to the ship. A ramp was let down, and two people, a male Coruscanti and a female Abariskan, stepped out.

Hannah stared.

“This is Estammi,” Jominde said, pointing at the Coruscanti,”And this is Alkannah.” he said pointing at the Abariskan.

“Hello, Estammi and Alkannah. Pleased to meet you.” Hannah said, remembering her manners.

“I think we'd better get going. Police squad of 23 aproaching from the northeast.” Estammi said.
“OK.” Jominde said. “Hwen, follow me.”

Hannah followed the warm, tan back of her new Jedi friend into the SS Harmony. They sat down in 2 of the 5 seats in the ship.

“I'll drive.” Estammi said, ”Alkannah can keep you occupied.”

Estammi, hunched over, climbed into the pilot seat. Alkannah took a seat next to Jominde.
“And Jominde Uhandre Kail, who is this... discourteous little girl?” Alkannah asked.

“Discourteous?” Hannah asked,”What did I do?”
Alkannah frowned.”You said 'Pleased to meet you'.”

“Huh?” Hannah asked. What was wrong about saying that?
“Hwen, what Alkannah means is that... um... Abariskans think it bad luck
to say 'Pleased to meet you,'” Jominde told Hannah.

“Oh” Hannah said,”Sorry, uh, Alkannah. I did not mean to be so... discourteous.”

“Jominde, are you sure that this... person... is an Abariskan?” Alkannah asked.
“Yes, Alkie, I am sure. Hwen just doesn't know it.” Jominde said. “Ah, Hwen is her name? Is that it?”

“Hwen Casila Juaine.”

“Ah. Juaine. Jaela was my Best Friend...” Alkannah looked away.
“Uh oh.” Estammi said from the pilot seat.

“What is it Estammi?” Jominde asked.
Estammi turned around, ”Security alarm has sounded near the emergency
exit. Darth Amadar is here.”

Chapter 5: The Fight for the SS Harmony

        “D-D-Darth Amadar?” Hannah said, ”Here?”

She looked over at Jominde. He seemed to shake. Everyone, exept Jominde, ran to find a hiding place.

“Do not run.” Jominde said. “He is after me, not any of you. Stay. He will not touch you.”

Hannah looked at him strangely. DO NOT RUN?! What kind of help would that be?

In an environment where you do not wish to be noticed, it would be better to walk tall. Lurking and crawling in the shadows would arouse the suspicions of those you are hiding from.

“I understand, sir.”

“Stay here, Hwen. You too, Alkannah and Estammi. I shall meet him alone.” Jominde said.

He stood up and slowly walked to the door. At the door, he turned around and smiled at Hannah. Then he threw her a silver, cylinder-shaped metal object.

“For your protection,” he said, “Just in case.”

Jominde dissapeared behind the automatic iron doors.

Hannah started to sweat. “I wish I could see what was happening to Jominde.”

“No you do not.” Estammi said, “I am watching him on the Security Cameras now.”

Hannah ran over to where Estammi and Alkannah were watching him. She saw that Jominde and Darth Amadar were talking, though Hannah couldn't hear the words. Then she saw their swords. Jominde's a light blue and Darth
Amadar's red. The fought, twirling and ducking and jumping higher than she could. After about 15 minutes, Darth Amadar twisted to a new strategy. Hannah saw his move but Jominde did not.

“WATCH OUT!!!!” Hannah screamed. Jominde could not hear her. The red sword came down and cut off the arm with Jominde's sword. Jominde fell.

“NOOOOOOO!!!!!!” Hannah screeched. She turned around to cry. Alkannah did too. But Estammi watched for 7 more minutes. Finally, he sighed and turned it off.

“He has not moved a centimeter. I am afraid that he is dead.”

Hannah bolted through the doors and down to the place where Jominde lay. She fell to her knees and put her hands around his chest. She cried a little. Then, putting her hand over his heart, she gasped. It beated. Then she looked up at the ceiling. Finally, she found the security camera.

“Estammi!! Alkannah!! Jominde is alive! He needs a Medicinal Treatment, thats all!” Hannah screamed up at it. Alkannah and Estammi might be watching. Soon, she saw the SS Harmony's Medicinal Crew run over and kneel by Jominde. They looked at his wound, then frowned.

“He is hurt badly. He may not recover by the time we reach the surface of Candor. Too bad Darth Amadar sliced his lightsaber in half. We might have been able too use it.” They said, picking up Jominde and carrying him
away. She looked at the sliced, twisted, metal cylindar. So that was what they were called. A Jedi's sword-thing was called a Lightsaber. That was when Hannah remembered what Jominde had given to her. She gasped. He had
given her her very own lightsaber! She rushed up to the room she was sitting in when he gave it away. It was still on the chair where she had left it. She picked it up slowly, then activated it. It glowed a thin, purple light. Hannah suddenly felt calm, confident. She  twirled it, then, to her own suprise, she soumersaulted high into the ceiling, then
landed gently. She smiled.

“Don't get too happy, Miss Hwen.” Estammi said.

Hannah gasped. She didn't know Estammi was watching her.

“Oh, uh, huh, hi... Estammi.... Where, um, is Alkannah?”

Estammi snickered, ”You have no need for her now. You're dead meat!”

Estammi took a thing out of  his pocket and pointed it at Hannah
“Garpej, Te lemohe!” Estammi said.

A blue light shone on Hannah, and she fell unconscious.

Chapter 6: Old Friends

When Hannah awoke, she found herself in a dark, damp prison cell. She
tried to get up, but was unsuccessful. Her hands had been tied to her
feet. As her eyes slowly became used to the darkness, she was vaguely
aware of others in the cell, watching her.

“Why am I here? Where am I?” She asked the dark shapes.

“People are sent here if caught by either Darth Amadar or his apprentice,
or if they are found to have been given the gift of  future foresight.
You are in the Hornet Prison, in the planet Beattrah.” one figure sighed.

“Who are you?” Hannah asked.

“Who are you?” The figure replied.

“Fine.” Hannah said. “I am Han.., I mean..., Hwen Casila Juaine.”

“Hello, 'Hwen Casila Juaine'. My name is... well... Mohonogon.”

“Ah, Hi... Mohono..” Hannah stopped. Where had she seen a Mohonogon
before? What she came up with nearly made her faint.

“Audrie??? Is it you? It's me, Hannah Kisri!” Hannah exclaimed, while she
inched her way to the 'Mohonogon' and tried to hug her.

“Hannah?” Audrie asked She seemed doubtful.

“Don't you remember me, Audrie?” Hannah asked.

“Only if you will answer my questions, 'Hwen Casila Juaine'.”

“OK”

“What other two girls at the orphanage had never known their parents?”

“Ezri Potterest and Kerin Milan.”

“Who was in the 'Popular Group'?”

“Jenna, Cybil, Lyn, Belinda, Luise, and Christin.”

“What was the last full word you said before you abandoned me?”

Hannah felt hurt. She didn't abandon Audrie.

“I didn't leave you, Aud. Sigh. The last word was... say.”
Audrie had tears in her eyes. Finally, she let them go.

“Hannah.” She cried. They hugged heads. “You don't know how much I missed
you.”

“I know, Aud. Me too.” Hannah said, “I love you.”

Pink-Teddy-Bear-Unicorn-With-Bright-Yellow-Ducky Pajamas

By Allie889

Part 1

Leah wasn’t normal. Everyone knew it. She dressed different, talked different. People had teased her for years. But she was my best friend. She understood me better than anyone. When the bullies teased me, she stood up for me. When I tripped in mud on the way home, we went to her house and cleaned the mud off. Yup, Leah was a great friend. It’s too bad no one else ever gave her a chance.

One thing you must know about Leah is that she dresses so outlandishly that some people run away at the site of her. I am NOT kidding. She wears bright colors and mixes polka-dots with plaid. I don’t think she’s ever noticed the looks she gets. On the first, bright, crispy day of school she wore pink-teddy-bear-unicorn-with-bright-yellow-ducky-pajamas. I’m not kidding. They were bright pink, with teddy bears, unicorns, and bright yellow ducks over them. In my opinion they were very tacky, not something I would ever wear. But they suited her perfectly. Those pajamas reflected her personality. When Leah walked in wearing pajamas, everyone stared. People started to whisper and giggle behind her back. As usual unfortunately. She just walked to her seat, smiled at me and sat down.

“Hey Kara! Wait up!” I heard Leah’s voice behind me as I walked down the hall after class. “Like the outfit? It’s the best I have come up with yet!” Her smile pretty much radiated, the cold weather making her cheeks and nose turn pinky-red.

“Oh, yeah! It completely fits you. But how did your parents let you out of the house?” I replied, shifting a stack of book from one hand to the other as we walked down the hall.

“You know my parents. As long as I am comfortable and like how I look, they are fine with it.” she answered, shifting through her papers, probably for that English essay Mrs. Hanson had given us over summer break. She stopped shuffling as a cold voice echoed through the halls.

“Hey Leah, when are you gonna go to Mars where you belong?” The voice of Adrianna, the most popular (and most horrible) girl in school sneered. I don’t know why, but that girl always got pleasure out of picking on innocent people, like Leah and me.

“Yeah, call the fashion police. She needs to be put in fashion jail!” Another voice shouted out. Everyone started laughing and teasing Leah, calling her a martian, alien, fashion criminal. Leah just stood there. The last bell rang. The teasing died down and everyone left.

“See ya Leah!!” Adrianna said flipping her hair over her shoulder and strutting off, followed by her numerous lap-dogs…err…girls. I turned and was almost caught dead.

I have known Leah for my whole life and I have NEVER seen her cry. Or even so much look like she was gonna cry. She’s the strongest person I know. She always stood up for others, but never herself. She just let other people tease her, and never cried. That’s why when I heard sniffling behind me, I almost jumped out of my skin. This was not like her at all.

“Leah, are you okay?” I asked timidly. This was kinda weird. Her crying, I mean.

“Yeah. It’s just I am so sick and tired of all the teasing. Do they seriously have nothing better to do? It’s getting very, very old. I’m gonna go home. See you.”  She sadly replied, the tears seemingly disappearing off her face.

_________

The next day Leah wasn’t at school. Another thing about her was she never missed school unless she was on death’s door. Her studies were one of the most important things to her. I walked around all day like I was in a daze and went to her house immediately after school got out. I walked up to her door and rang the bell. Usually I didn’t have to, but this was a special case.

“Hello Kara. Come in.” Her mom said. I entered and walked up to Leah’s room.

I knocked on the door and entered the room. Leah as sitting under the covers of her bed tracing the pattern of her bedspread.

“Hey Leah! What’s up?” I said trying to sound normal. It’s failed. I stuttered out, “Are you okay?” She didn’t seem in the mood for normalcy or jokes.

“You shouldn’t try to act like everything is normal, Kara. The bullies have teased me so much I think I have finally cracked. Thanks for coming over but I would like to be alone right now.” She said without looking at me.

I stared at her. She never said anything like that before. She usually wanted to talk about everything and anything.  I guess not now. I left her house dejectedly, wondering what I could do to cheer her up. As I walked down the street I grinned as idea slowly forming in my head.

_____________

I ran up to Leah’s porch. A brown-paper, twine tied package was clutched in my arms. I put the package on the doorstep, rang the doorbell and jumped into the bushes. I landed on my shoulder really hard, but I was to anxious looking at the door to think about it.  Leah opened the door, looked around at her yard, then down to the front porch. She got a funny look on her face, then picked up the package and went inside. I ran to the window and watched her open it. She sifted through the cookies, the book of poems that I wrote, that only she could read and a small white stuffed cat to find a single pale pink card with this poem on it.

When times are rough

You were always tough

You could strut you stuff

And never fell for fluff

You inspired me

To be the true me

Don’t forget to cry

Your bad feelings will fly

She smiled. I smiled. I crept out of the bushes and ran home, my heart lighter than the crisp orange and red leaves of the September trees.

Part 1: Jalyn's Intro

Inside a heavily decorated church, pretty much packed with people who were fairly eager to hear what the mission team had to say, sat a young woman who was very undecided about this whole reaching out deal. She was trying to convince herself of how comfortable she really was. Up on stage, two young men named Josiah and Patrick were presenting an abundance of information about the upcoming missions projects as well as work done in the past. Most of it had been done under Josiah’s uncle, who was also leading the rally.

“All I ever wanted to do was stay in a nice quiet place, have a nice peaceful life, with people who don’t make me, well, feel so AWFUL for just wanting that. I mean, THIS is AMERICA, right? Why would anyone want to leave it?" she thought.

Little did she know, God was stirring in her heart something small. God had put a little seed in her heart that was about to bring something into her life she would start to long for…the very something she, for now, seemed to despise.

Aftwards, people are milling around outside. Jalyn walked up to the table almost without thinking.

Josiah was eager to engage a conversation. “So, you wanna be part of the mission team?”

Jalyn hesitated. “Uh, Well, uh, I …uh….” Jalyn was pushed by man accidentally, and waking her up from her fogginess. “Excuse me,” he uttered. “I’m not sure. I-just-wanted-to-know…” She finally quit glancing around and met Josiah’s gaze firmly. “You-know,-get-a-little-more-information.” Suddenly a woman called out loudly across table to someone else, distracting Jalyn, for a second; “I said, Does China have nice mountain views??”).

Back to her thought, she added, “Yeah.”

“You’ve been to China too, young lady?” The woman asked.

Jalyn groaned. See, here we go again. People going to make me feel bad for being who I am. What’s with these people anyhow? Can’t I do just as good a job being here and teaching kids on Sunday mornings or whatever?

Picking up a few pamphlets, Jalyn barely said more. But Josiah, convinced he’d see more of her, attempted to persuade her to just think about going, and to get back with him later. Jalyn was ready to discard the whole idea – she wasn’t even sure how she’d ended up at that table after all.

Pamela Perfect
 --------------------

By Elizabeth O.

PART ONE

Once there was a girl named Pamela Prinzmetal. She was 12 years old, had curly blonde hair and blue eyes, and was the most popular girl in 7th grade. Pamela was proud of her title, yet a little too proud. She thought the whole world revolved around her, and that she was the center of everyone's attention.

She was only friends with Caresse Leniro, everyone else was not 'good'enough for her.

Today Pamela was going to the school spelling bee. There she would be competing against the regular kids in her class. "Surely I will win the golden cup." she thought,"I am better than them."

Pamela got there just in time. She took the seat where the audience would be more likely to see her, and waited. The chairs quickly filled up, and Pamela saw that the least popular girl was sitting right next to her. Pamela winced. Who did Araia think she was, sitting next to her without an invitation.

Mrs. Lei finally started the spelling bee. "Pamela, spell the word airplane." Pamela spelled it perfectly, and Mrs. Lei asked Araia a question. She got it correct too.

An hour later, Pamela and Araia where the only ones left. Mrs. Lei asked Pamela to spell the word pterodactyl. Pamela said it with confidence. "TARODAKTAEL"."I am sorry." said Mrs. Lei,"That is incorrect."

PART TWO

Pamela's mouth dropped open. The Audience gasped. Araia cheered. Incorrect! How could Pamela have gotten it incorrect?! She quietly went to the back of the room where the trophy was standing. What a nightmare!
Next day at school, not everyone was gathering around Pamela as usual. Most of them were near Araia, asking her how she had done it. Anger built up in Pamela. She went over to Araia and punched her! Araia fell down on the ground. Mrs. Lei saw Araia on the ground.
She immediately picked up Araia and went to the school nurse. Soon after, Mrs. Lei came back with the princible. "Now Caresse Leniro," the princible said,"You shall come with me." "No!" Caresse
screamed. "I did not do it! Pamela did!" The principle stopped. He looked at Caresse, then at Pamela. Then he went off with Caresse still at his side.
At lunch, Pamela stayed as far away from Araia as possible. Araia had a black eye, and a bandaged head. Whenever Pamela had to look over, she stuck out her tongue. Sometimes, Araia would look at Pamela with sorrow, not anger. Pamela got up to get a second helping.
Pamela suddenly tripped. She fell backwards onto a table, and food flying all over the place. Pamela got up and saw Araia go slowly towards Pamela. "Oh,no" Pamela said to herself,"What now?"

PART THREE

Araia put out her hand toward Pamela and said,"Here, Pamela, let me help you." Pamela got up by herself, and stuck her tongue out at Araia.
Pamela went into the locker room to wash the food off her. Pamela could just hear the people in the cafeteria laughing.
Next day, Pamela was overflowing with anger. She was being totally ignored; Araia had all the attention. Pamela kept exploding in sudden rages of anger that everyone started calling her a female bully; Miss Pamela Perfect.
At recess, Pamela went over to sit next to her best friend Caresse.
Caresse kept ignoring Pamela as she spoke. Finally, Pamela got to the point she wanted to tell Caresse."Ya know, Essa, That stupid Araia ruined my..." Pamela suddenly froze. She had just noticed that Araia was sitting right on the other side of Caresse. Pamela got up and ran.
After school, Pamela walked over to Caresse's house. She went up and knocked on the door.
     "Who is it?"
     "Its Pamela. I wanted to..."
     "Sorry, pam. I... am busy,"
     "with what?"
     "My new BF"
     "Your WHAT!!!!!!"
     "My new and better BFF"
Pamela gasped. Waht did Caresse mean? her NEW BFF???! Pamela went to the side of hte house and peaked into the window. She saw Araia and Caresse. They were playing a board game. Sooo.. Araia was her new BF.

PART FOUR

Next day at school, Pamela stayed as far away from Caresse and Araia as possible. The only person Pamela hung out with now was the new girl, Karen. She hung out Karen only because her parents were millionairres.
"Karen, Araia is ruining my life. I used to be perfect and popular but now... ARAIA IS RUINING MY LIFE!!!!!!!!" said Pamela.
"Pamela, you should read the Bible. it has the answers to all of your questions. One verse even explains why this all has happened to you." said Karen.

  "whats THAT?"

"its in Proverbs... Pride comes before a fall"

"Oh, yeah. So, like, the Bible has a CORRECT answer to everything."
When Pamela got home, her parents asked her what she learned in
school that day. Pamela said she learned that Evolution was a true fact. Up in her room, she pulled down an old dusty book from her top shelf. It was her old Bible. Pamela thought that if she just read the first chapter, she'd be able to tell Karen that the Bible was a lie. She read the first verse, then something told her to skip to Matthew. Pamela read the first chapter, and got so interested she read the
whole book of Matthew.
Next day, Karen asked if Pamela had read a Bible yet. Pamela just said," A very interesting fantasy."

PART FIVE

Karen looked at Pamela, smiled, and said,"Everyone learns their own way." then left.
Later, Pamela saw a poster that read 'SCHOOL PLAY AUDITIONS: Martha of California
: Sign up here' Pamela saw only 5 signatures on the list, and she read more. 'Auditions July 24, during recess.' Then Pamela read the names.
Carmen Jilian, Araia Evans, Samiel Orfen, Caresse Leniro, and Jimmy Jenkins. Pamela signed the sheet. She would win back Caresse and crush Araia's fame. Plus, it would all take place in exactly 24 hours.
Pamela smiled as the crowds came pouring into Gym B. Obviously, about 30 people made their signup the last minute. Caresse was 1st. Mrs. Lei tested Caresse on her singing voice, balance, allergies, and stage fright. She was given the part of 'Madre'. Araia was given the part of Martha, Samiel was given the part of Emmon, and Karen was given the part of Tonya. It was now Pamela's turn. She was given the part of Hwinnie.
Mrs. Lei explained everyone's parts and gave out the scripts. Karen, Araia,Caresse, and Samiel were given main parts. Pamela was the horse. A HORSE!!!!!! The only thing Pamela said was a stupid song that went like this:

'Move your horsie up and down, through the woods and on the
ground. Listen to the Neigh of me, Hwinn your dum horsie...'

Boy, Araia was gonna get it good!

PART SIX

Pamela had no choice but to do what she had been dreading; unbutifying
herself. When it was time for Pamela to go home, she went to a beauty
parlor. Pamela got her hair dyed brown, the nail polish taken off,
eyecolor contacts, and a new purse. Pamela went home and took her name
of the school students list and changed her name to 'Lara Jane
Prinzmetal'. No one would recognize Pamela now, and she could
re-befriend Caresse when she didnt know it.
Next day, the new Pamela walked through the school doors. She pretended
to be shy, and Caresse walked right up to her and said," Hi, welcome to
Dinsville School. I am Caresse Marie Leniro. Who are you?"
Pamela replied," Lara. Nice to meet you. Can you introduce me to some of
your friends?"
"Sure," said Caresse," over here..."
Caresse introduced "Lara" to Karen, Andie, and Araia. Pamela, curious,
asked Caresse,"Who's popularest in this school?"
Caresse answered,"It used to be a girl named Jeanne, then came Pamela,
then Andie. Pamela lost her popularity when she hit Araia. You see, Andie
and Araia are identical twin sisters, and Pamela kept hurting Araia when
Andie was the one she was after. To think Pam used to be my BF,...Lara
whats ur FULL name?"
Pamela said," Lara Jane Prinzmetal. Pamela Andria Prinzmetal is my, uh,
cousin. hey, can I go over your house after school?"
"Well..."
"Can I?"
"Sure"
"Wonderful,.."
"I guess i could get to know you better."
"Whats wrong."
"Well, nothing. sure!"
After school Pamela went over to Caresse's. Caresse introduced Pamela to
her room. Pamela was shocked. All the pictures of Pamela, and all the
gifts pamela had given Caresse were gone. Instead the theme of 'groovy
green' it was 'Perty pink'. The room was now totally Araia. Anger built up
in Pamela. She got up, went to the computer screen, and...

LAST PART (SEVEN)

She went up to the computer screen and saw the desktop. At least Pamela was still Caresse's screen saver. "Caresse," asked Pamela, "Do you know how to play 'Dare or Dont' ?"

"Why yes," said Caresse. They then started the game. Though Pamela was angry, deep down inside, Pamela
felt she should show herself to Caresse.

" Caresse,..."
" Yes, Lara?"
" I dont really think I should, but I must."
" Must what? Whats wrong, Lara?"
" 1st, I am not Lara. My name is Pamela."

Caresse jumped when she heard that name. " Pamela.?!"

" Caresse, I am Sorry. Truly sorry. Now I know that popularity isn't everything, that friendship is more rare than diamond's. Please, BFF?"

Caresse stared at Pamela for a long time. Finally, Caresse shook hands with Pamela. "BFF, forever?"
"Yes," said Pamela," BFF, FOREVER!"

"But wait," said Caresse,"Would it be alright if we were a trio? Can Araia, me, and you all be best friends?"
Pamela soon said, "Sure. I am wanting to learn more about Araia... as a friend."

THE END

Hans Clodhounder -Mandi's Story

By Hillary

Chapter 1

The ride to Uncle Brian’s house was long, lonely, and tiring. The driver was an elderly man, and the other man up at the front of the wagon was one of Uncle Brian’s hands. He was a young man, and he seemed uncomfortable with his job of "escorting" me to the ranch.

Waiting impatiently, I sat in the back of the wagon. I knew my cousins were all probably as excited as I was about our spending the summer together. I couldn’t remember them very well, though, and I wondered what we would think of one another.

The whole way, the driver talked excitedly. I didn’t listen; I wasn’t trying to listen, I wasn’t the least bit interested. The young man in the front seat wasn’t trying to listen, it seemed, but, whenever he was asked any questions, he had to have a little in-put. Suddenly, as we neared the house, something caught my eye.

Round and round and round went what had captivated my attention; it was a larger figure chasing a smaller one. The bigger one glimmered in the sunlight from time to time. As we got closer and closer, I realized more and more what was happening. An older woman was chasing quite a mutt of a dog, who had a large chunk of red, raw meat in his mouth, and the glimmering thing was an old ragged can. She was shouting at that thief of a dog like he’d die if she ever caught up with him. The woman was keeping up with that agile little creature very well, especially considering her age; she must have been at least five and one half times older than me, but maybe a little less.

I watched the dog. He was about a foot tall at his shoulder height, and three times as long from nose to tail-tip. He was a beautiful red-brown color, and he had a big husky build. His face looked houndy, and so did his whole body. His actions were very smart. Loving hounds, I loved him, thief and all.

I then made a decision to rescue the poor little dog. I even gave him a name; Hans Clodhounder (Hanz Clod-hon-der). I decided to jump from the wagon.

Looking at the men up front, I took off my new straw hat, tied my hair back with my hat scarf, and looked down. I wasn’t happy about jumping; I felt I just had to rescue that little dog though. So, gathering up my courage, I stood up – only to fall down with such a thud that the young man up front nearly bounced off his seat! He turned around to make sure I was all right and asked me if I had fallen. I pretended to not understand him. Finally, he turned back around again.

This time, I had a plan. The path was about to swerve around so that the buildings would be totally out of sight for a while. I couldn’t run through the Australian pines quickly enough, and Hans might have been hurt before I got there if I waited until we passed the trees. I crawled on my hands and knees to the tail of the wagon, and pushed on the back wall. It felt locked. So, I looked over the side. Sure enough, there was a metal latch on the side. I said a quick prayer, and then I pushed it. I found it wouldn’t budge, and I almost fell out, so I put my hand on the back of the wagon, and – bang! Oof! I somersaulted out and rolled on the ground more times than I could count!

Behind me, I heard the wagon stop. The young man shouted, and I got up and ran. I focused on what I was sure was going to be my new pet. I must have run three hundred feet before I even got close. I got little cuts from rocks, tall plants, and scratchy weeds, but I did not stop or really care. Nearing the chaos, I ran slower, so I’d come in with just the right timing – after the woman went around. The animal and woman stood still, one on either long side of the building. The woman was looking under the raised building at the dog, while at the same time, she was edging toward the side. The sly dog had a plan. (Now the woman had a net, not the old can, in her hand.)

As the woman sprang around the corner, the dog ran under the building; and the chase was on once again. I jumped right out of the plants into their path. The surprised animal dropped his meat, and the woman dropped the butterfly net she’d been carrying. Then that dog ran right up to me and jumped in my arms like I’d owned him all of my life.

Meet Katherine

Submitted by: Holland Miller

Chapter One: The New Born

Katherine and Alexis were walking down to Mr. and Mrs. Higner’s house when they saw Mr. and Mrs. Higner run into the hospital. Alexis and Katherine slowly followed the nurse that led the Higners to their room. When Mr. Higner saw the girls he nervously told the girls to come in.

Alexis eagerly asked if it was time for the baby to be born. Mr. Higner was quiet for a few minutes before saying, "Yes, but since the baby is two months early…" Katherine cut him off not wanting to hear the risks involved and said, "You’re not fully prepared. That is going to be easy to take care of. I was early and my parents weren’t prepared for me.

"No, Honey," He said," there is a chance that Mrs. Higner won’t be able to keep the baby." Katherine flew from the room screaming, " The baby is going to make it, it can’t die! I won’t let it!!!" Alexis apologized for Katherine's behavior, then ran after her.

A few days later the doorbell rang at Katherine’s house. Katherine told Sally to go and answer it. The Higners were standing there with their new daughter Katherine Joy Higner. Katherine was so happy that Mrs. Higner was safe and even more excited about the baby being safe.

All was well then, but little did they know that danger was quickly approaching them.
