Witnessing

Allison,
I would like to witness to my friends, but am unsure of what to do.  Not one of my soccer team is a Christian and I don't want to risk my popularity in order to tell them all about him.  I've done a few things already:  I've invited them to 2 church things (one is coming up) but they just seem to come because they want to be with everyone else.  I really need help on becoming better at witnessing.
In Christ,
~Madison~

Hey Madison!
I'm so glad you're wanting to reach out to your team! One thing I noticed in your letter is where you said, "I don't want to risk my popularity in order to tell them all about Him." You see, there is this obstacle that all Christians face at least once in their life if not frequently. That is the fear of man. The fear of man is where we are worried about what humans are going to think of us. However, in the end, we will not stand before humans but God, he will be the one to judge us. So who should we be trying to please? God or man? Here are a few scriptures addressing this issue.
"Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe." Proverbs 29:25
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15
"for they loved praise from men more than praise from God." John 12:43
These are just a couple of the many numerous scriptures that address this issue. It is very important that we find security and identity in Jesus so that we will not be ashamed of the Gospel (Romans 1:16). I encourage you to let someone you trust know about this and ask them to pray over you. There will be great freedom in this.
As to actually witnessing here are a few practical ideas to reach out to your friends.
  1. Find some Gospel tracts to give them. Often you can get these from your church. If not they can be purchased from www.livingwaters.com for a relatively low price. Tracts present the Gospel in an interesting and often creative way.
  2. Talk to your youth pastor or small group leader about having a Matthew party for your group. A Matthew party is where everyone in the group invites their unsaved friends to a party at church. The youth leaders have some fun activities, snacks and games. At the end the Gospel is shared and there is a brief ministry time.
  3. For their birthday buy them a teen girl Bible. These often are pretty and have articles, quizzes and fun stuff that relate to the Bible helping the reader understand it better. Even if she only reads the quizzes at least she is getting Christianity presented to her and it will be worth it.

I hope this was helpful to you. Your rewards in heaven will be added to because of your efforts to bring your friends into the kingdom!

Blessings!
Allison

Creation

If God created the earth then who created God and how did He get here?

~Emily~

Dear Emily,
That question is capable of taking you on a seemingly unending mental roller coaster ride. The answer is simple and complex all at once. God was not created but in the beginning was God. Here are a few scriptures for you to chew on.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it." John 1:1-5
"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." Revelation 22:13
All I have to say is that it takes faith to look past the question and believe in all God is doing and wants to do in your life.
If you'd like a little more in depth explanation of this I'd encourage you to visit www.answersingenesis.org. This ministry offers many resources covering controversial Biblical topics.

God Bless,
Allison

Doubts

I grew up in a Christian home and was saved when I was four. I've been growing as a believer ever since. My question is, though, why do doubts sometimes pop in my head and why do they make me feel that God won't want me because of them? ~Heidi~

Hello Heidi!

Those seeds of doubt that pop into our head are from Satan. He wants to do everything he can to keep us from knowing and loving our Saviour. 1 Peter 5:8-9 says, "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings."

I'd encourage you to become more and more grounded in your faith through Scripture memorization so that next time doubt enters you will be able to speak back to those attacks with Scripture. Eventually it will become easier to stand firm and resist the thoughts of the enemy.

God Bless!

Allison
