Resume update
checklist
You need a periodic check to see if your career is on track. Here is a checklist
and reasons to see that it may be time to update your resume.
- Salary.
Your colleague next to you have just got a job offer
at twice his current salary.
- Layoff or closure -- Rumors of company layoffs/slowdown are circulating,
although your boss may still say there's nothing to worry
about.
- New career path -- Your old resume lists your previous jobs as Sales manager
but you may now be Regional head.
- Resume is not updated for the current assignments and date -- Your most
recent resume does not include the last two years of work and current
accomplishments.
- New priorities --Your resume lists more fraternity and university sports
awards than job accomplishments.
- Less is more --With the addition of your present job, your resume is now 3 pages
long.
- No personal stuff -- Your resume includes hobbies and personal information

Summery of
your qualification/ experience / specialization
This part describes your qualifications
from your three kinds of skills: technical, transferable and personal
attributes. In this section you can mention a good educational background,
strong work history, skills and achievements in your field. The following is an
example:
- Chartered Accountant with nine
years management experience, including three years general accounting and three
years cost accounting.
- Seven years of supervisory experience in the manufacturing industry.
- Proficient in EXCEL, ACCESS, LOTUS, 1-2-3,Dbase,
ACCPAC Plus and other accounting software packages.
- Proven analytical, accurate, outstanding problem-solver as demonstrated in
four financial service positions.
Qualifications/
Education
This section consists of both your formal
education and other types of training that are relevant to your current job
goal.
- List the certificates, diplomas
and degrees you have received. If you did not graduate, indicate the highest
level of education received. You can mention special training, specializations,
accredations honors, awards etc that will best
describe your expertise for a particular job.
- List other types of training that you have taken, only if they are relevant
to your job search. New, significant training might be included in you summary
section, in order to highlight it.
- You may choose not to include the name of the institutions where you received
your education or the dates you attended if you feel listing them may leave you
open to discrimination. Remember, never lie, but you don't have to tell
everything in the resume, either. You want to leave something to talk about
during the interview.

differentiates you from others as it the application of your expertise/
specializations. It can be grouped and listed in order of importance, depending
on the position for which you are applying. Every profession requires different

This section of the resume lists the
employer(s), the position and when you worked. What you did in each job,
important duties or responsibilities handled and your major/ specific
achievements can be listed in the job profile provided under each employer starting
with the most recent job and working backwards. Cutting and pasting can easily
tailor this section, so that your resume can target each individual job.
- It is recommended that one
should concentrate on the last 3-4 jobs or 10 years of your employment history.
Jobs held prior to this period can be either included if they relate directly
to the employment currently being sought or alternatively it can be summarized
