"Even though he tried real hard his father ran him down all the time."

Gondor comes from gon(o), gon(o) from elvish roots. When Tolkien thought about the most primitive words or languades of men, he tuoght of "stone" so it explains the antiqueness of Gondor.

The Dunedäin founded Middle Earth's kingdoms, and the most manous ones were the men of Gondr, kingdom if the south. Isildur and Anarion built the white towers of Gondor the year 3320 of the Second Age, after escaping the destruction of Numenor with his father who stablished the Arnor kingdom.

Gondor was powerful when they controled the west of Rhun sea, between Celebrant and Harnen rivers. Even when it began to fall, the kings still possesed Anórien, Ithilien, Lossarnach, Lamedon, Anfalas, Tolfalas, Belfalas and Calendardhon.

Inside Gondor there were five important cities, and two important ports: antique Pelagir in the Anduin and Dol Amroth, city ruled by Belfalas. In the center of Gondor were stablishe the three most important cities between the White Mountains and Mordro's mountains. The eastern city was called Minas Ithil <<The Moon Tower>> and the western city was called Minas Arnor <<The Sun Tower>> and the most important was called Osgiliath <<Citadel of Stars>>. Osgiliath was the capital of Gondor.

On the Third Age, Gondor suffered many wars. The year 1432 began a civil war, in 1636 a plague asolated the city adn between 1851 and 1954 the aurigas invaded. The year 2002, Minas Ithil felt under the power of the Nazgül and orcs. From that moment on, is was a place of great evil called Minas Morgul. The year 2475, the Uruk- hai, stronger and bigger orcs, left Mordor and invaded the weak city of Osgiliath and broke the bridge that comunicated the city with the rest of the kingdom.

But there were still strong men in Minas Arnor who wore mithril and rode as eager as antique warriors they had the emblem of a white tree with seven stars and a silver crown. They dressed with helmets and mithril decorated with sea birds and black cloacks; sulver weapons and armours. In the war of the Ring, Denethor II ruled as Steward in stead of the fallen kings.

A light among shadows.

"With time he learnde to give hope and aid to those who needed it."

He was son of the Steward of Gondor and was one of the last Dunedäin ( descendents of Numenor blessed with long life) and Captain of the rangers of Ithilien.

He had elvish blood flowing in his veins from his mother's side, but lost her very soon. He loved her deeply, so loosing her was a hard wound for him. Later on he lived to see his brother being brought up like the most beloved one and he was ignored by his father even though he knew he was more alike him than Boromir. But his pacience was rewarded, for he met Gandalf in his childhood and the Wizard saw in his heart the nobility of the old race and decided to take care of him as he could, for he had to travel a lot.

He taught him the deepness of wisdom and mercy, he loved him like a father and understood his pain and torments.

With Gandalf, he called him Mithrandir as the elves, he learned to use his hereditated hability, from his father's side, to see in the hearts of people and move to compassion and understanding unlike his father who moved to hate and suspicion. He loved his country and dare not wound no plant nor creature if he was no enemy. He fought as brave as any warrior but still was wise and sensitive.

"-... I do not kill without necesity no man nor beast, and when necesary I don't do it with pleasure... Do not be afraid! I would not take this thing not even if I found it droped  in the way. Not even when Minas Tirith felt, and only I could save it, like that, using the weapon of the Dark Lord for my county's wellfare, and my glory. No, I do not desire such merits, Frodo son of Drogo... If you want to trust in me, I could advice you and even help you on your mission... Rest in peace! And you, Samsagaz, calm down. If you think you had spoken more than you should, think it was written to be that way. Your heart is... loyal and it saw more clearly than your eyes. As strange as it seems, there is no danger in telling me. I could even help the master you love so much...

-Good night, Captain, my Lord-said Sam-. You have accepted the test, sir.

-Really?- said Faramir.

-Yes, and you have shown your quality: the very highest... You have also an air, sir, an air that reminds me of... of... Well, Gandalf, the Wizards."

"He knew his life was forfeit, but still helped Frodo and Sam."

Against shadows.

"Suddenly, nevertheless, in the presence of Faramir, a strange feeling he had never known, overcame his heart. This was a man of high nobility, similar to the one he sometimes saw in Aragorn, less sublime perhaps, but at the same time less unpredictable and remote: one of the kings of men born in a more recent age, but touched by the wisdom and sadness of the Antique Race. Now he knew why Beregond named him with respect. He was a Captain men would follow blindly, who he would follow, even under the shadow of the black wings...

- I hope I have not done wrong.- He looked at his father.

-Wrong?- yelled Denethor, and suddenly his eyes lightened.- Why do you ask that? Men are under you command... it has been a long time since you have deviated from your road and don't listen to my advices... but do you think I have not seen that your eyes were fixed on Mithrandir, trying to know if you were saying the precise things and not more than convenient? He is the one that has stolen your heart for a long time...

-If what I have done dislikes you, father- said Faramir calmly-, I wish I had known your thoughts before such desition had been imposed on me.

-... I an sure that you eould have done the same. I know you well. You always want to appear noble and generous like a king of old, gentle and benevolent... But in desperate moments, benevolence can be rewarded with death.

-So be it- said Faramir.

-So be it!- yelled Denethor-. But not only with your death mister Faramir: but with your father's, and your people's, who you should protect now that Boromir had gone.

-You wish then- said Faramir- that I have been in his place?

-Yes, certainly- said Denethor-. Because Boromir was loyal to me, not a Wizard's disciple... He would have brought to me a mighty gift...

-I beg you, father, to remember that I was the one that went to Ithilien, not him... I t was the Lodr of the City who trusted Boromir that quest.

                                                       ***

-Since you were robbed of Boromir, I'll go in his stead... If you order me to.

-I do- said Denethor.

-Goodbye then- said Faramir-. But if I ever return think better of me.

-That will depend on the matter of your return- said Denethor...

-Do not sacrifice your life... You will be needed here, for different things in the war. Your father loves you, Faramir, and he will remember it before the end... (Mithrandir)

                                                       ***

-Things could get better when Faramir returns. He is brave, more than what others think; in times like these men do not want to believe that anyone could be wise, a man knowledgeable in the antique writtings and leyends and songs of the past, and at the same time an intrepid Captain with fast decisins among a battle... Less reckless and vehement than Boromir, but not less determined... (Beregond)"

"He couldn't take it anymore and decided to fight for his people if not for his father".
