Change Your Clocks & Check Your Smoke Alarms
- For the past few decades, daylight saving time ended on the last Sunday in October. But it would all change when Congress passed the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which became a law when President Bush signed the bill in August 8, 2005 The Act, Described by proponents as an attempt to combat growing Energy Problems, provides Tax incenitives and loan gauruntees for energy production of various types.
So don't forget to set BACK your clock 1 Hour @ 2:00am November 4, 2007. And to always set it back on the First Sunday of every November. And we would also like to remind that this would be a great time to change out your Smoke Detector Batteries in your Home.
The Members of the Oxon Hill Volunteer Fire & Rescue, regret to announce the passing of Life Member Joseph Humphreys.
Joseph “Papa Joe” Humphreys joined the department in 1975. He has served in several different positions over the many years, reaching as high as Assistant Chief and serving as the treasure for 28 years. All though Joe had stepped back from riding the apparatus he was still active in the department as he was currently serving on the board of directors. He will be greatly missed as he was like a father to the younger guys and like a brother to the members who have served beside him for over thirty years. This is not only our loss, but also a loss to the fire service in the state of Maryland as a whole. Joe worked for Maryland Fire Equipment where he had associates from abroad.

Tower 21 on the Air, Station with additional?
Moments after Co. 42 cleared the accident on Audrey Lane, we were back at the station hanging out on the front ramp when we heard Tower 21 go off the air @ STATION 42 ! We quickly looked up to see the tower coming down Marcy Ave. Not that this was unlikely for this to happen, but for it to be staffed with a Volunteer Crew. Alot of people say or believe that Co. 21 has no riding members at all. Well i guess they have enough to have a second crew.
Company 42 Respond on the Rescue Local
Today the volunteers at Co. 42 had just notified PSC that we would be running an additional engine crew. With a fully staffed Paramedic Engine, Pumper, 2 Chief Officers, and a Dedicated Ambulance, it wasn't long before the bells went off for our first call of the night. The call was to respond to audrey lane & 210. PE42, E422, A429, C21, B/Cheif 42 w/ Aide with a total of 13 arrived on the scene only minutes later to find a acura pinned slightly underneath a flat bed tow truck. Over a Dozen EMS calls, 1 Box Alarm, 2 Auto's
Today started off when Co42 was still holding 2 full crews from yesterday, from sick people to injured kids, from box alarms to an auto fires we handled it. But around 2030hrs during our regular company meeting an alarm was struck for an auto fire on I-95 near Branch Ave. The fire was called in by personell from NDW (Naval District of Washington). Engine Company 29 reported that it was on the outer loop prior to Branch Ave. Within seconds Engine 422 arrived on the scene to find a Ford Windstar Minivan well off. After extinguishing the fire, units went back in service around 2105hrs.

Glassmanor 42 on a early morning kitchen fire...
Around 0230 hrs communications put out a box assignment for 633 Audrey Lane for a apartment on fire. Engine 422 & Chief 21 responded from Quarters with a total of 4 volunteers, Paramedic Engine 42 was already on the air with 3 personnel, just clearing a call and arrived on the scene at the same time E422 did. PE42 took the side delta position with their own hydrant, E422 layed a line and took the second hydrant to be picked up by E291. PE42 advanced the 300ft 1 3/4 attact line to apt T-2 where fire conditions were to be found in the kitchen. After quickly putting a knock on the fire, Chief 21(Adkins) held units from 42 and 21 and returned the rest. Units cleared the scene @ 0315hrs.

Sunny Day with a Auto Well Off
Just after clearing a Medic Local and a 9-I, units from 42 were once again alerted, this time for an auto fire @ Southern Ave & Wheeler Rd. E-422, PE42, and Chief 21 quickly responded to the scene to find a auto fully off just at the County/District Line. Once after putting a quick knock on the fire, and clearing up the street so traffic could continue, units went back in service about 20 mins later. And a special thanks to the local guys that hang out at the gas station and liqour store, for your great traffic control.

Violent times on the hill….
Around 1700 a call was put out for a man down in the street. Initial units responding were informed of a possible shooting on Marcy Avenue. With PE-42, E422 and A429 arriving it was obvious that the patient suffered multiple GSW and needed immediate transport via trooper 2 to shock trauma. Within minutes trooper 2 arrived while medics from 29 attempted to stabilize the patient. Unfortunately the patient passed and was pronounced at the hospital. Our thoughts and prayers go with the departed and out of respect no immediate incident scene photos are shown.

They come in three on the hill…
The incident started around 2230 on Tuesday with an MVA with a person trapped and possibly on fire. PE-42 and A429 were dispatched to south bound I-95 right before the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Both units arrived on scene with no problem reaching the victim. While waiting for rescue Squad Support, Company 42 began extrication with the tools we had. A second crash occurred and this time it was with one of our own. While making the turn to position behind A429 Rescue squad 47 was struck by an 18 wheeler which proceeded to hit two more vehicles. Soon after it was reported on radio the scene was flooded with units from NDW, DC, Alexandria, Fairfax, county as well as state police. Nearly all victims received medevac via helicopter. With the incident scaled down to clean up a silver pt cruiser sped past the police blockade on the bridge state and county units on scene started to scramble after the vehicle that turned out to be a stolen that was stuck in traffic. Just after we cleared the incident it was business as usual on the hill.
