In Argentina, International Workers Day is celebrated on May 1 as a commemoration of the Haymarket Massacre in Chicago in 1886, when Chicago police fired on workers during a general strike for the eight hour day. We celebrate it in a special way, generally with a street march organized by a Labor Union. For example, last Friday the GCW (General Confederation of the Work of Argentina) organized a movement to the 9 de Julio Avenue. Lots of workers went to the famous street guided by their leader Hugo Moyano, who spoke about the next elections.
