I made this site to celebrate the lives of my Barton ancestors of (Cass) Bartow County, Georgia. My grandmother was Rosa Belle Barton, but unfortunately I never knew her as she died before I was born.
My mother whetted my interest in family history with a hand-written family tree containing the names of every ancestor she knew, as well as their origins. Since I’ve been involved in research myself, I’ve found her family pages not only useful, but remarkably correct!
I was lucky that my Barton relatives also wanted to preserve the family history, so they wrote books that provided some of the information for this site. This information comes from many sources, personal knowledge, family lore, legal documentation, as well as books….”History of Pine Log Methodist Church,” by Elizabeth Mahan Garrison and Joseph Mahan, “History of the Family of James Monroe Barton and Colista Ann Collins Barton,” by David A. Barton, A. E. Barton, and W. S. Northcutt, and last but not least, “The Barton Book,” by Robert Dacus Nalley.
If I’ve only learned one thing about the Barton family, it is that they are devout Christians, having raised many Methodist ministers. They are also well-educated, with most of them college-educated, even back in the early 1900s when a college education was not all that common.
The photos I’ve seen of my Barton ancestors also show them to be a very stylish bunch. No grungy-looking pictures survive of those folks! They were always shown in the latest styles, all clean and neatly pressed. Photos of my daddy when he was a child show him dressed in little suits with bow-ties. His sisters wore bows in their hair and pretty dresses with ruffles and sashes, all made by my Grandmother Barton.
I can say the Barton wives are all good cooks, too; at least the Barton’s who attend the Barton Reunion at
Please feel free to read my pages as I relate some of my memories. Also do feel free to contact me. Whether you’re a Barton or a browser, you’re most welcome!
Come on in a stay a while! I hope you enjoy my web site,
