Circuit boards are not seen by many; however, they play a very large role in everyday life. They are the guts of every electronic device, most importantly, computers. Circuit boards appear to be miniature, futuristic cities. The tiny components of each board are assembled in a grid like pattern, giving the appearance of a mapped out city. While studying them, it is easy to picture myself walking around inside of this new industrial looking space.
My recent oil paintings explore the idea of circuit boards becoming life-size. Painted on six feet by four feet canvas, the circuit boards are enlarged to an extent that they become a readable yet unrecognizable space. With the use of added dramatic light, high contrast and strong shadows; these mysterious spaces take on their own time of day. My goal is to trick the viewer into believing they are looking at a landscape. By depicting them on such a large scale as well as adding dramatic light, the circuit board becomes the city itself.
