GHS SINFONIA
SINFONIA is the Italian word for symphony. Although the term symphony can be used to describe an extended musical work, in our case it is used to describe an orchestra that includes all four instrument types: strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. No matter what instrument you play, you are welcome to join the GHS SINFONIA.
This course provides opportunities for students to develop their musical potential and aesthetic understanding through the care and cultivation of a beautiful tone, the ability to read music with increasing fluency, the building of technical skills, team spirit, and responsible rehearsal habits. Students will have opportunities to experience the spontaneity of improvisation and the creative process of composition. Students will heighten listening skills and increase their ability to analyze and evaluate music and music performances. Attention will also be given to relating their music experiences to the time and culture of the pieces they study, as well as to contemporary society.
The GHS SINFONIA will concentrate mainly on classical works, and music patterned after the classics. However, there will also be opportunities to study more contemporary pieces and musical genres. The GHS SINFONIA will perform several concerts during the school year.
If you are not currently enrolled in this class, please contact Mr. Moore at:
and he will help you to become a member. If you are already a Sinfonia student, invite your musical friends to join.
