July 5th Hike

ggreenacres Posted by ggreenacres at 09:26 AM on July 07, 2009

Well, The weather was perfect and there were hardly any bugs which made hiking in the forest fantastic but I have to admit I was disappointed in the lack of mushrooms.  I don't know what is holding mother nature back but many of the fauna and flora is about a week to two weeks behind its growth cycle compared to last year. We found 4 chanterelles and one boletes, an excellent amount of crown coral and some fawn mushrooms. We spent a lot of time identifying some weird colored mushrooms, and I think I am going to go out a pick waxy caps for a meal tomorrow.

Please tell me how the waxy caps turn out. The couple I took home dehydrated on my spore print area in no time at all. There was not much left of them. smile

I will. I am planning to go out this afternoon. I found a new location that looks promising and I would like to explore. The only waxy caps I trust are the yellow (golden) and the bright orange - can't remember what the orange ones are called.
