S/V CIVIL TWILIGHT

Bahamas Bound

'Civil Twilight' is a 47 foot Passport, built in Xaimen, China in 2004, by Wagner Stevens.  She is a semi-custom boat designed by Bob Perry.

A center cockpit makes it very comfortable below, and with a  cutter-rig, rough conditions are much easier to deal with.  She has a full enclosure for the cockpit, so on those cold or rainy days we can get out of the weather.  There is also forced hot air heat, as well as A/C, so we'll be warm when we leave Maine, and cool when we get to the Bahamas.

Tankage consists of 4 water tanks, holding about 150 gallons of water, and 2 fuel tanks, holding about 130 gallons of diesel.    There are also two holding tanks...each 30 gallons.  Three solar panels help to keep the batteries topped-off.  She drafts a little over 6 feet, so navigating the ICW and the Bahamas could be a challenge.  Her mast is 64 feet, so we'll just be squeeking by, under the 65 foot fixed bridges!

The name 'Civil Twilight' is a nautical term.  It refers to that time of day when the sun is 6 degrees below the horizon...making it dark enough to see the brightest stars, but light enough to still see the horizon.  At this time of day, if you happen to be a celestial navigator, you are still able to take a sun/star shot with your sextant.  It can be at dawn or sunset.
