Maricris - the Pinoy Pop Superstar Year
3 Grand Champion!
Maricris
Garcia of Caloocan City emerged as the newest
Pinoy Pop Superstar last June 2, 2007 during
Grand Showdown held at the Araneta Coliseum.
Each of the finalists brought out their singing
prowess just to impress the judges but only
Maricris, Bryan Termulo, Miguel, and Joyce
made it to the second round. Then it was Maricris
and Bryan on the final two where they sing
for the last time. Maricris is also the Over-all
Roadshow Superstar while Jennie got the Best
Album Performance award.

A
Day on the Rainbow

It seems like only yesterday when Gerald Santos
was declared the second Pinoy Pop Superstar.
Now, his status as a singer is sealed with
the release of his first album, A Day on the
Rainbow.
Gerald is thrilled that his
album has finally been released. “Sarap ng
pakiramdam!” he exclaims.
This is a dream come true
for him. In fact, the first time he saw his
CD, he almost cried! “Nung una, naiiyak pa
ako kasi pinakita sa akin sa GMA Records,
sa office nila. Ayaw ko naman umiyak doon,
di ba? Nakakahiya naman,” Gerald says. “Nagulat
ako nung pagpasok ko, ang laki ng mga posters,
tarpaulins, ‘yung album ko, nakita ko na rin.
“
At only 16, Gerald is already
a gifted singer with a knack for belting out
beautiful ballads. On A Day on the Rainbow,
Gerald showcases his skills and impressive
vocal range. The title track and first single
“A Day on the Rainbow” talks of a personal
longing for someone so dear.
“Natupad na rin ‘yung pangarap
ko sa wakas! Nung bata pa ako, gusto ko na
magka-album. Ini-imagine ko na may album ako,
nagre-record ako sa tape,” Gerald says.
Gerald’s parents were present
during the album launch at the Hard Rock Café
earlier this month. His mom and dad are very
proud of their second child, especially since
they didn’t think success would be so sweet,
and would come so soon.
“Masaya kami. Napakasaya kasi
di namin akalain na mararating niya kaagad
‘yung ganyan. Masaya talaga,” Mrs. Santos
says.
“Maligayang-maligaya kami,
syempre,” Mr. Santos says. “Medyo nabigla
kami dahil napaka-bilis nga. Dati, sumasali
pa (si Gerald) sa amateur singing contests.
Ngayon, nasa TV na siya.”
As proud as his parents are,
they nevertheless urge Gerald to stay humble
and not to forget his roots as his successes
take him higher and higher.
“Sana lagi siya maging magpakumbaba,
huwag lalaki ang ulo. Lagi kami sumusuporta
sa kanya. Matapos niya ‘yung pag-aaral niya,
para makatapos na siya tsaka yung dati niyang
ugali, di mawawala sa kanya,” Mrs. Santos
says.
“Huwag lalaki ang ulo niya
at sana marating niya ‘yung mas mataas pa.
Sa ngayon, ok na. Sana mas maging successful
pa siya sa singing niya,” says Mr. Santos.
We’re
sure Gerald will have no problem staying as
sweet and humble as when he started. Congratulations,
Gerald! A Day on the Rainbow is definitely
a sign of better things to come.

Sa edad na 16, masasabing
solid na ang fanbase ng batang mang-aawit.
Matatandaang si Gerald ang
tumalo sa unang grand contender at kapuwa
finalist na si Harry Santos sa patimpalak.
Noon pa lamang, kinakitaan
na ng kakaibang galing si Gerald. Sa lakas
ng dating ng kanyang boses, na classic ang
timbre, inasahan na
magiging matagumpay na balladeer ang binata.
Sa bawat pagtatanghal ni Gerald,
mababanaag ang kahanga-hanga niyang estilo
sa pagkanta.

pag-atake sa kanta — malinis sa pandinig at
hindi nakasasawa.
Sa album niyang A Day on the
Rainbow, patutunayang muli ni Gerald na siya

title track at unang single na A Day on the
Rainbow ay mula sa
panulat ni Rebel Magdagasang. Ito'y tungkol
sa pangungulila ng isang
tao sa mahal niya.

YOUNGEST
GMA Record artist si Gerald Santos with the
launch of his debut album.
The
second winner of Pinoy Pop Superstar, Gerald
joins the ranks of Jolina Magdangal, Jennylyn
Mercado, Janno Gibbs and even fellow PPS winner
Jonalyn Viray na may album na under GMA Records.
He is just 16 making him the youngest of the
distinguish line up ng signed artists sa recording
arm ng GMA Network.
Last
Friday lunch in the busiest of time as far
as press cons are concerned, nai-launch ang
kaniyang A Day In The Rainbow album sa Hard
Rock sa Makati.
So
many good things to talk about Gerald and
his album. For one, magaganda ang line up
ng kanta including the title track A Day In
The Rainbow na may MTV na and ang kanyang
opening song na I Believe. Ikalawa, mas nagi-ging
cute ang bagets kulang niya na lang ngayon
height puwede na siyang ilaban kay Christian
Bautista as a singing matinee idol pero bata
pa naman siya.
Ang
pinaka importante, na impress kami sa confidence
and showmanship ni Gerald when he opened the
show. Para na siyang isang seasoned performer.

Show
business has been kind to 2nd Pinoy Pop Superstar
winner Gerald Santos, who, after winning one
of the most prestigious singing
competitions in the country, has gone on to
become, among other
things, a regular in SOP and R&B Princess
Kyla's new co-host in Pop
Star Kids.
Gerald
says that he's still getting used to hosting,
but he's open to
any suggestions that other people might have
s that he can improve his craft. "Syempre,
di naman maiiwasan yung may mga comments na
di maganda dahil syempre, beginner,"
Gerald says. "Marami pa naman akong room
for improvement, kaya binigay ko pa rin yung
best ko para some day, masabi nila na nag-improve
ako talaga as a host. Kahit saan ako ilagay,
pwede ako."
Despite
his struggles as a host, there is no denying
that Gerald
enjoys what he does. "Sobra!" he
says.
He's
glad to be working with Ate Kyla, who he says
is "sobrang bait.
Masarap siyang katrabaho."
A
product of a talent search himself, Gerald
marvels at the talent on
Pop Star Kids. Gerald, who was the youngest
contestant on Pinoy Pop Superstar, is in awe
of the PSP's contestants because all of them
are
younger than him, yet have very powerful voices.
