Greetings! It has been nearly one full year since I ceased broadcasting GEORGE's JUNGLE INTERNET RADIO from here in Calgary. A lot has taken place in the meantime, and a great deal more will be happening in the near future.
I will be writing about all of this in the days ahead on my blog at POP SPACE. Along with news, this will also become a collection of reminiscences of everything from radio to independent music to ring announcing. Updates to the blog will appear here as I publish them.
Finally, I can tell you that I will be getting married on Saturday 29th December of this year. Yes, Mother Spelvin's little boy is finally tieing the knot. I proposed to Christine on Friday 2nd February of this year (the Feast of Candlemas), and we are both looking forward to our future together.
I can be reached by e-mail at spelving@mad.scientist.com
God bless!

"The solution to troubles - even the darkest and most severe troubles - does not lie in understanding why they happened. We creatures cannot unravel the mysteries of good and evil. The solution is to cling to God in hope and gratitude. He is always with us." - Fr. Michael Scanlan, TOR, "The Truth About Trouble", Servant Books
Greetings, and Happy Canada Day! Summer continues to bless us here in The City of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, with a chaotic blend of wonderful weather, bouts of rain, occasional fits of hail, and more mosquitoes than a Biblical plague. Apparently, little bloodsuckers laid a quite large number of eggs a few years ago. The heavy rains we experienced here last year encouraged them all to proliferate when they hatched this year. Instead of enjoying the summer weather, many people have been simply trying to avoid being eaten alive. I'd like to see some trucks from the city fumigate our bug-infested metropolis, but I know they won't do it because it would probably violate the anti-smoking bylaw.
Regardless, hope springs eternal for a really good summer, for the goal of which -- mosquitoes notwithstanding -- the weather is otherwise largely co-operating. The aforementioned rain and hail only comes when it has been too hot for too long, which is normal -- or, at least, normal around here, where we always say that if you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes. It is in no way unusual for us to experience all four seasons in one day, and for the benefit of those of you who have never visited Calgary and area, I cannot emphasize too strongly that I am not making that up. Those who either do live here or have lived here are nodding and smiling wryly to themselves as they are reading this.
GEORGE's JUNGLE: 24-HOUR INTERNET RADIO

PRALAY is a hugely talented independent rock band from India. The group has been working the circuit throughout the great southeast Asian subcontinent for over 13 years, and has even managed to get a couple of its videos on Indian MTV during that time. Several tracks from its new CD, 14 began to receive play on "SALMAGUNDI" last month. Pralay is definitely on this broadcast to stay, and that's a very good thing, indeed.
GREG SMITH has been playing guitar for 40 years, and is a master of nearly as many styles as you can think of. He has performed all over the United States with some of the biggest names in music. Greg's CD, ABOVE THE CLOUDS features a great variety of smooth jazz guitar sounds, and tracks from this disk are continuing to receive play on "SALMAGUNDI".
DREAMWALKER performs some terrific chillout and Native American flute arrangements. Tracks from the duo's first CD, UNOFFICIAL HARMONIZED CHILLOUT TAPES can be heard on selected editions of "SALMAGUNDI". Dreamwalker's second CD, TREE OF LIFE is forthcoming. Watch the band's website for the release date.
Calgary's own ST. ANTHONY's LATIN CHOIR is well known for its polyphonic brilliance when it comes to Gregorian chant. SALC continues to make its mark on the "SALMAGUNDI" programme in a very positive way, and you are guaranteed to hear more from this choir in the weeks and months ahead on the broadcast. The choral first CD is entitled, MUSICA SACRA PER ANNUM ("a year of sacred music").
YOYOMAN has completed a new single entitled, U. S. S. NIMITZ. To date, YYM has created nine separate tracks of "aviation music" along with two videos, all of which can be heard on his website. However, U. S. S. NIMITZ is unquestionably his best work yet. YYM's next step is to re-master the tracks he plans to include on his first CD, as well as to create new music for his debut release. I, for one, can hardly wait to purchase a copy.
CHILLGROOVE is a very talented group of chillout / new age / soundtrack performers. Tracks from this highly talented band's self-titled CD, CHILLGROOVE are receiving play on "SALMAGUNDI", and have (not surprisingly) been a hit with my listeners. Chillgroove's members include HAYIM KOBI, who has already scored major points with fans of "SALMAGUNDI" via cuts from his terrific COMPUSITIONS CD.
