Oops...I Did It Again!

Posted by georgeamaru at 12:16 AM on December 30, 2009 Comments comments (0)

OK, I know that's a really lame, outdated and overused pun, but whatever.  The point is that I've once again changed the design of the website.  It seems like I do this every year.  LOL

Anyway, this one is more of a tweak, than a redesign.  It's acutally the same design in a new color and with a reworked background.  I've also changed the Amaru Studios gateway page to mirror the design of this site.  Oh, and I put a new logo at the top of both.  I hope you like the new designs for the new year, and I'll see you all in 2010!

Email Difficulties

Hello.  Some of you may have had some difficulty contacting me over the last day or so.  I've been doing some behind the scenes tweaking to some of the technical aspects of the site.  This caused an email glitch for at least an hour or so yesterday. My email is now working as normal, so if you attempted to contact me yesterday, and have not heard from me, please resend your email so that I can respond.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thanks all,

George

Indy Comic Book Week

Posted by georgeamaru at 07:52 PM on November 21, 2009 Comments comments (0)

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to take a minute to let everyone know about this great upcoming event.  I encourage all comic fans to take this opportunity to try something new, and for all creators and aspiring creators to answer the call and come up with something great.  I'm not sure if I'll have something prepared in time, but I'll keep everyone posted.  Until then, feel free to visit the link above and learn more!

Here's an excerpt from the website:

Indy Comic Book Week is not only an event, but also a call to action.

DiamondComic Distributors announced they will not ship any new comics for thelast week of December. This company is the primary distributor of comicbooks in North America. What some would call a sad week without ourfavorite mainstream titles, we are calling an opportunity. This vacancyallows independent and small press comic book creators to claim thisweek as their own.

We challenge writers andartists to self publish new material for this week, and offer it totheir local stores. We ask for retailers to take this as an opportunityto showcase local independent talent on the new release shelves. Weencourage fans to break from their buying habits and try something new.

Raiseyour fist and proudly declare that comic books are more than anindustry, more than a handful of corporations – it is a creative outletfor independent-minded artists and storytellers. This last week of 2009belongs to you. Power to the people. Right on.

Rumblings...Tremors...and Earthquakes?

Hi everyone.  Sorry, I know I've been out of the loop for a while update-wise.  A lot has happened in the last few months.  My 2009 sketchbook is still available, and the 2010 Artbook is in the early stages of development.

My work continues for Wolfman Productions, and there is some great stuff coming next year, culminating with our appearance at the 2010 New York Comic-Con.  For those with the means, you can catch a sneak peak when the Wolfman team appears at 2010's Wizard World Philly!

I also have a couple of other things brewing for the next year, but it's too soon to talk about them.  Rest assured that they are quite cool, and I hope to share more soon.

Until then....

The Death of Superman('s Film Franchise)

Posted by georgeamaru at 08:44 PM on September 18, 2009 Comments comments (0)

So it's official.  As I'm sure many of you have already heard, WB/DC Entertainment have officially announced that they currently have no plans to bring the Man of Steel back to the big screen.
While fans of the character have known that the film franchise has been in trouble since the mixed fan reaction to Superman Returns, the announcement that DC Comics would be restructured into DC Entertainment, lead many to believe that The Last Son Of Krypton would get a reprieve.  This seems to not be the case.
As the geek wars rage as to whether or not Superman Returns director, Bryan Singer single-handedly destroyed the franchise, DC Entertainment has stated that the ongoing litigation regarding the character's rights are the main cause for the current delay, though it is well documented that WB are quite confused as to what to do with the character following Superman Returns.
Also puzzling is the fact that a judge had told WB that if a new Superman project is not in the works by 2011, the Siegels (the family of Superman creator Jerry Siegel, and current co-owners of the Superman copyrights) can sue for damages (resulting from lost revenues that theoretically could have been gained by another studio developing the property).  Did WB decide that it is better to take their chances in court, rather than risk losing hundreds of millions of dollars in a new film, or are they simply playing close to the vest, and not announcing plans for a new film until they are ready?
I didn't post anything on this earlier because, fankly, this isn't a news site, and the story had been well covered by multiple sources.  However as i was lurking the web today, visiting various forums and sites that I frequent looking for news, especially that related to Superman, I realized what a giant step backward this is for Superman fans.  Once again we are desperately searching for hope that our favorite character will once again grace the silver screen.  We are back in the depths of development Hell that we and our hero know all too well.  Last time we were here, we served a sentence of 19 long and painful years, hopefully our sentence will be much shorter this time around.
As we all know, wherever there is a Superman, there is hope.

This October, I will be attending the Boston Comic-Con.  This isn't an appearance, I won't have a table or anything, I'll just be attending, but if you're in the area on Saturday the 24th, drop by.  Perhaps we'll see each other.

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies Teaser Online!

Posted by georgeamaru at 02:06 AM on May 17, 2009 Comments comments (0)
Okay, so this has absolutely nothing to do with my artwork, but it was just too cool not to share.
IMDB.com has posted the teaser trailer to the next film in their animated DC Universe series.
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, is based the first arc of the ongoing monthly comic, Superman/Batman.  Writen by Jeff Loeb, with art by Ed McGuinness, Public Enemies was a fantastic introduction for the new series, and it looks like the film will be faithful, right down to artwork inspired by McGuinness' style.
According to a release, "United States President Lex Luthor uses the oncoming trajectory of a kryptonite asteroid to frame Superman and declare a $1 billion bounty on the heads of the Man of Steel and his 'partner in crime' Batman. Super heroes and super villains alike launch a relentless pursuit of Superman and Batman, who must unite (and recruit super help) to stave off the action-packed onslaught, stop the asteroid, and uncover Luthor's devious plot to take command of far more than North America."
Anyway, enough from me, enjoy the trailer here:
