May Madness - Updates Galore!
It's been a while since I've provided a real, substantial update for the happenings of Generic Insight Radio. I'm only myself to blame on this. We have a LOT going on though so I'd feel shitty not letting everyone know. So here's the skinny...
- Firstly: we have a whole mess of interviews coming up. Last week we aired the one I did recently with the fine fellows of the wonderful band Look Mexico from Tallahassee, Florida. These gents are not only a great band, but they are some of the wackiest/funniest dudes you will ever meet. It's safe to say the interview I did with them was one of the funniest ones I've ever done and provides constant laughs for all. Seriously, not only are they great guys but an excellent band as well. If you're into music that sounds similar to quirky bands such as American Football, Cap'n Jazz and Minus The Bear, you owe it to yourself to check out this band. Considering how "quiet" their music is, they also have one of the most entertaining live shows around so you also owe it to yourself to go check them out when they come through your town. Click on the link provided above, check out their music and if you like, go purchase their full length This Is Animal Music, and then go catch a show. The entire interview will soon be up for streaming on the Audio Archives page if you missed out on last week's live broadcast.
As for the other interviews we have coming up... band wise, right now we're jumping around with various music styles with these. A hardcore band, another indie rock-esque band, a melodic punk rock band and a female fronted post-hardcore band all to come soon. Then, on top of those interviews, we will also be soon launching a brand new live interview series titled the Generic Insight Radio Small Label Series. Inspired by the interview we aired for our 100th episode with Chris of Eternal Hope Records, I've scheduled a bunch of interviews with people who own and/or run small indie record labels that have active rosters at the moment. My goal is to air as many of these as possible in the coming months. As of right now, our current/tentative (and always subject to change) interview airing schedule looks like this:
May 7th - Another Breath (Rivalry Records... airing this coming Wednesday)
May 14th - Bryon of Kiss Of Death Records
May 21st - Holy Roman Empire
May 28th - A Wilhelm Scream
June 4th - Justin of Underground Communique Records
This will be for the month of May/beginning of June. As for the upcoming label interviews expect to also see the following people/labels aired and featured (though air dates will be TBD at this point):
- Matt of Red Leader Records
- Ryan of Hex Records
- Jeff Rosenstock of Quote/Unquote Records
- Jonny of Whoa Oh Records
Also TBD, an interview with Andy the vocalist of the Portland, OR band No Secrets Between Sailors, who are this month's Local/Unknown band spotlight (though it's currently not updated yet... check back soon).
- Secondly: I've started a tour blog, for those who care. Last year, I had started a blog to document and detail everything going on with GIR but it didn't work out too well (I mean... why have that, that's what this page is for... right?) However, sometimes I enjoy going out of town for shows and doing interviews with bands. I go so often it just makes sense to want to document all the madness that occurs. If you're interested in any sort of stories involving Barrie from Generic Insight Radio and her many travels for shows and to see bands, you should check it out. Go here, leave comments/send feedback if you wish: thesedeadstreets.blogspot.com
- Finally: For Christmas, I received a digital video camera. Since then, I've put it to use filming shows and bands, a lot of whom are locals. Some of this footage is going to be used towards documentaries I'm doing on local music scenes. As I do with the radio show, my goal is to draw people in with footage of larger/well known bands and then get people to be interested in or check out the smaller ones I film as well. For all this, check out the Generic Insight Radio YouTube Channel.
I think that's it for now. Be sure to tune in for the May Madness.

==============================================================================
OUR 100TH EPISODE TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so I've finally decided what I'm doing for this.
In the time period that I've had my show I've done a ton of amazing
interviews with a bunch of great bands. However, there's 3 interviews
in particular that stand out in my mind that I've done and featured on
the show. These three were easily the funniest/most entertaining/most
bizarre/wacked out ones I've done and they stand out in my head for
these reasons alone.
What I am going to do is air some of the best parts of each of
these interviews. BUT, I won't be telling you guys who the bands are
right away. Before the airing of each interview clip(s), I'm going to
air songs that relate to each band in some way, only one song being a
song by the actual artist that the interview is of. You, as the
listener, will have to guess WHO THE EXACT ARTIST IS IN QUESTION.
If you guess correctly, you will be able to win free stuff!!
Prizes will include:
- copies of the GENERIC INSIGHT RADIO VOLUME ONE comp CD (note: if
you already have it, let me know and we'll work something out)
- 2 copies of the demo CD by SAKES ALIVE!! from Rochester, NY
- 1 copy of the demo CD (NOT THE FULL LENGTH record) by Toms River, NJ's ONE WIN CHOICE
- A BUTTLOAD OF GENERIC INSIGHT RADIO STICKERS ON 3 DIFFERENT DESIGNS
- maybe more stuff? IF YOU'RE IN A BAND AND WANT YOUR STUFF GIVEN AWAY LET ME KNOW!
If you want any specifics of these prizes let me know and again, we'll work something out!
ALSO we will be doing an interview/news segment with Chris
Borrelli, owner of Eternal Hope Records! tune in so he'll talk about
his new signings and such!
we'll also be taking the usual requests and stuff!
tune in @ 10pm-midnight eastern time via
