Gemshorn Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen

About the Breed....

Also known as the 'Happy Breed' - the Petit belongs to a group of four varieties of scent hounds called 'griffons' coming from the Vendee area in Southern France.

The name alone describes the breed: Petit - small, Basset - low to ground, Griffon - rough coated, Vendeen - from the Vendee region in France.

In appearance, the Petit is a wirey, rough coated dog, with an intelligent eye showing from the tousled hair over the eyebrows. It should have a strong neck, good quarters, should be well ribbed with a medium length of back. The hind quarters should be well angulated. When on the move the tail is carried proudly and resembles a sabre. The coat should be harsh to the touch and look slightly ruffled. The height should be between 13 - 15 inches depending on the sex.

By nature, the Petit is an easy going Hound, fitting in with most other breeds and also good with children.

The Petit needs exercise to keep him content, and being a hunting dog this means walking on a lead. Your garden should be well fenced, to prevent any opportunity to escape.
