Antiphonitis Church - Kantara Castle

Antiphonitis Church

Another free day (not without singing I'm sure!) The weather is not being very kind to us!

Cyprus

A rather damp Antiphonitis Church. The exterior doesn't prepare us for the sights within!

Cyprus   Cyprus

The walls inside are covered with the remains of extensive and beautiful wall paintings. I'm sure the wooden beams supporting the chandeliers aren't original.

Cyprus

What's so interesting up there then?

Cyprus

The inside of the dome!

The circular shape of the dome is rather freeform! Was it built like that or has it moved and been patched over time?

Cyprus

Cyprus

"What's that you got there then?!"

Cyprus

"Another happy snapper takes a flash photo of me when I'm trying to record a video! I'm so depressed!"

(That'll be me! Sorry!)

Cyprus

The joy of exploration!

Cyprus

Tree of life.

We couldn't stand in this interesting acoustic space without feeling the need to sing! What do we all know? Bruckner's Locus Iste of course! Elvin gave us our starting notes and conducted us while we joined voices to explore the acoustics. There are more senses involved in getting the most out of a beautiful building than you might think!

Cyprus

Time to head off for lunch and then Kantara Castle.

Cyprus

"Breaker Breaker! We have a convoy!"

Cyprus

This whole thing's a spoof! Sheep in woodland? This is the Forest of Dean! Trees look strange though?!

Cyprus

It was continuing to be a very wet day!

If the sight of old fridge-freezers dumped in a verdant valley, and the rubbish dumped on beaches is disappointing, it is nothing compared to the vandalism of estate after estate of holiday homes which now lie unfinished and empty. With new roads being built, the developers will be free to destroy even more of the unique countryside!

Cyprus

Wilfred & Naomi in front of our lunch stop.

Kantara Castle

Cyprus   Cyprus

Somehow this viewpoint isn't so appealing when it's wet!

Cyprus

The walk up to the castle.

Cyprus Cyprus

3D Stereo pair. Good depth - the plants really stick up in their own space.

Cyprus

Cyprus   Cyprus

The arrow slits in three directions give an unrivalled view of the surrounding countryside. Here's an example!

Cyprus

I guess he doesn't want us to share his piece of rock?!
