What is a plant swap?
It is a friendly gathering of people who love gardening. They bring plants, seedlings, seeds, or cuttings and other garden-related items to share with other fellow gardeners. No money is exchanged for anything. All plants, seeds, seedlings, cuttings and garden-related items are swapped with other gardeners!
What should I bring?
Rooted Plants/Bulbs/Seeds: Bring anything that you think someone would want. Take cuttings the morning of the swap and-keep them wrapped in moist (not wet) paper towels in a zip-loc bag in a cool place. Make sure the cuttings have at least two nodes on them. Make a note of which end is the stem end (end closest to the mother plant). Make sure corms, bulbs and rhizomes are dried and cleaned of most garden soil and put in paper bags so they are easier to handle. Seeds should be packaged in labeled envelopes. It would be helpful if you can include other information about the plant or flower. When marking your plants, you can use permanent ink on popsicle sticks, cut pieces of old blinds, plastic knives and anything else you can be creative with! You can use old coffee cans, milk cartons, plastic pots, styrofoam cups, or even plastic bags with soil to put your plants in.
Anything garden related: Whatever you have to trade as long as it's garden related ~ sculptures, crafts, books, etc. ~ TRADE or GIVE AWAY ONLY.
Food: Contact any of the committee members to sign up. Lunch items that will be needed will be posted on our website, but if you don’t have a computer, desserts are always welcomed.
Some Things Not To Bring:
Small Children and Pets…some plants are poisonous and sharp and we do not want children and pets getting hurt. If you must bring them, please watch them at all times. Dogs must be on leashes. There is a playground nearby in the park for the kids.
Beer…the park has an ordinance prohibiting alcohol.
SWAP ETIQUETTE
Please observe and respect our plant swap rules of etiquette:
1. You must have plants, or garden items to swap for entrance into the pavilion. Hands must be stamped at registration.
2. Plants on tables are not to be taken unless permission is given by swapper of said table.
3. All plants under tables and in garden carts are always off limits. You will find all gardeners will be happy to share with you what they have and are VERY generous in swapping their plants. We also have a free cycle area with an abundance of free plants for swappers.
