Greg Constantino

Greg Constantino was born in 1977 in Rochester, NY.  He grew up in nearby Canandaigua where he attended St. Mary's Catholic School.  Constantino graduated from Canandaigua Academy in 1995 and was a 3 sport athlete playing baseball, basketball and football.  He earned 5 Varsity Letters and was named an All-League Selection (Finger Lakes East) in both Baseball and Football.  Constantino was awarded a Division-I scholarship to St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY as a pitcher/outfielder.  Constantino was redshirted his Freshmen year and ultimately released as a sophomore.  He transferred to St. John Fisher College in 1997.  While at Fisher, Constantino re-set the record books becoming one of the most dangerous hitters in all of Division III.  Constantino was selected to the Division III All-Star team 3 times.  Was named All-State 3 times, and was named All-American 2 times.  He was heavily scouted by the Atlanta Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Philadelphia Phillies.  Constantino also played collegiate football. Constantino currently hold the 5th highest batting average All-Time in the entire NCAA (Division I, II, and III).

                                

In 2000, Constantino graduated from St. John Fisher with a degree in Business and Marketing.  He was not taken in the 2000 Major League Draft and signed a free-agent contract with the Johnstown Johnnies (2001) of the Independent Frontier League.  During a weekend series vs. Canton, Constantino hit a rare triple.  He was joking with the 3rd baseman who asked if he had ever considered playing in Italy.  An idea was born!!!  Following a successful professional season, he was signed as the first American player (2002) to the newly formed Canandian Baseball League (Niagara Stars). Constantino desired to play overseas in Italy and found a way to obtain dual citizenship.  After 1 year of paperwork and battling with the Italian Consulate's office, Constantino was granted his citizenship.   

Constantino boarded a plane for Bologna Italy in April 2003.  He was greeted by the General Managers from the San Marino Expos and the Bologna Seattle Mariners organizations.  Constantino immediately was rushed to a nearby baseball field to "try-out" for the team.  During a round of batting practice (straight off the airplane) he hit 6 consecutive homeruns out of 10 total pitches.  The GM's were pleased and a contract was written for the entire season.  Constantino had a tremendous rookie season in MLB Europe hitting 4 homeruns and playing flawless defense in left field.  He was named to the Italian All-Star team and was asked to come back in 2004.

In 2004, Constantino made the trek back to San Marino.  Having a secure spot on the roster allowed him to focus on his main goal of impressing the Italian Olympic Team Scouts.  In 2004, Constantino hit over .350 for most of the season and was asked to be a fill-in for the Italian National Team going to Athens, Greece.  During a week of international competition (European Cup Championship) against teams from Germany, France, Spain, Czech Republic, and Holland...Constantino hit .532 and led the Italian Team to a 2nd place finish in the Olympic Pre-Qualifier. 

Constantino was recently offered 4 contracts to play in Italy and was listed on the World Baseball Classic Roster for Team Italy.  As the roster was widdled down, Constantino was eventually released from the WBC and is currently a free agent.  Greg was inducted into the St. John Fisher Athletic Hall of Fame (2005) and Canandaigua Academy Hall of Fame (2006).  Constantino can be found providing professional hitting instruction at Frozen Ropes in Rochester.  Constantino was married in 2005 to his long time girlfriend Stephanie, the couple lives in Canandaigua with their son Vincent.

Constantino is now running a successful financial services practice in Fairport and Canandaigua NY. www.nmfn.com/gregconstantino  He also runs a collegiate placement service called College Bound through the local Frozen Ropes franchise.  College Bound helps young players and their family understand the recruitment process as well as how best to market their talents to coaches and scouts at the next level.  Constantino is heavily involved in the East Coast Gray's Organization and coaches a travel team every summer.
