Blue Hole Falls & High Shoals Falls

To find these two waterfalls, take Georgia Highway 17/75 about 11.2 miles past Helen. The turnoff is a sharp right onto Indian Grave Gap Road. Look for a small, brown sign for High Shoal Falls. Follow this gravel road, fording a shallow creek, for 1.5 miles to a small parking area where the trail starts.
The trail is 1.2 miles long, and is a very enjoyable walk in the woods. At this time of year (October), it was strewn with leaves and was a bit wet and slippery. |

Blue Hole Falls

There are three bridges to cross before reaching the quaint mountain laurel tunnel seen above.
A narrow path veers sharply off to the left and leads down to a small viewing deck in front of Blue Hole Falls. There is no noticeable sign, but the trail itself is pretty hard to miss.
Blue Hole Falls drops about 25' into a small pool. |
|
High Shoals Falls

The main trail gradually descends with a series of switchbacks to a viewing deck at the base of High Shoals Falls.
To the left of the walkway, one can go under the viewing deck and clamber over the rocks for an unobstructed view for great picture-taking.
This is slippery going; be careful. |

High Shoal Falls

This shot was taken by crawling over the rocks to the right of the falls. While the rocks are large and easy to climb over, use caution as they are covered in moss.
High Shoals Falls is about 100' high |
|

There is a small path to the right of the viewing deck that follows the river farther downstream. This path requires some ducking under trees and crawling through the brush, but it's worth it. |
|

About a hundred feet further downstream, the path opens into a clearing. This is a great place to relax with a picnic lunch. Just remember to clean up after yourself! |
