Slave rules.
1. Everyone wants to be a pleasure or passion (bred and trained from birth) slave nowadays. But remember, you are still a slave. You must show respect to every free person, even one who is ugly, onerous or your mun doesn't like. Don't role play your thoughts about a person. If you don't like someone, go play elsewhere. There are lots of SLs for slaves besides furring. Use your imagination. But remember also, your master has defenses and guards in his home and places of business. People need passes to enter cities. Don't cause your master headaches or put his life in jeopardy by playing kidnapping or stealing scenes for attention. If one legitimately happens and is reasonably likely, then by all means play. But remember, men seldom fight or search for a slave.
2. Unless your Master demands third person speech, use first person.
3. Slaves do not travel without their masters or the men of their masters. The only means of transportation on Gor are tarn, kaiila, wagon or ship. Ar where the common rooms (arena, falls, etc., are located) would take days or weeks to get to from Rovere. Slaves are not allowed to fly tarns or ride beasts unless put on them by men. Ergo, you can only walk somewhere. There is no instant travel device on Gor, so you cannot leave your city alone.
4. Slaves are not allowed to teach except each other.
5. It is death for a slave to hit a free person.
6. It is death for a slave to look upon the city's Home Stone.
7. Slaves are no different from animals in the minds of Goreans. Livestock, so to speak. Every part of you belongs to your master, your thoughts, even the very breath you take. He has the right of life and death over you. You have no name unless given one, no Home Stone and no rights. Any free person may punish an errant slave, even kill the slave and the only repercussion under the law is to pay the owner her cost.
8. If your Master does not want anyone else to use you, then you must be belted or never allowed out of the house. Profiles are not written on your body. You must in your roleplay play that you are belted and if anyone refuses to acknowledge that, then click him/her. If someone attempts to pick the lock of the belt, do as your Master instructs.
9.a. There is a lot of misconception about serving on AOL. No where in the Norman books does it say a slave holds the cup to her heart for three beats whispering a prayer for the welfare of the one she serves.
b. It is an insult to your Master's house or any Inn or tavern he may own to check serving vessels for cracks or dirt. You are his slave. One of your duties, or the duties of his other slaves as the case may be, is to thoroughly clean and put away dishes, etc. You would know if there was a broken vessel and throw it away. Only when serving in outdoor areas (like the arena, falls, beach, etc.) would you check for dust. Never wipe a vessel with your hair or silks, that is unsanitary.
c. Whether or not you test a vessel is up to the person you serve. Do not ask to test in your Master's home or place of business. It implies your master has no honor and would poison his guests. Test if you are told to only.
d. "Sweetening" is a normal activity of a girl for her Master, and it is up to your master whether you should do so for everyone. Never ask to sweeten a free woman's drink.
e. In role play, serving is where a kajira can shine. No one will pay much interest to a slave who writes ::goes to the servery (a made up word not in the books) and gets a glass and fills it:: Be creative. You do not have to write paragraphs, but use a little more description. When serving free women, do not make reference to your sexuality. Free women for the most part on Gor do not like female slaves and are jealous of them. You should be in fear of them more then of men. Most free women accept that their family, mates, etc., will have slaves, but they rarely become friends with them or coddle them.
f. When serving your attention shall be fixed on the task and the person you serve. Do not stop to chat with others while serving, not even to greet someone entering. Your service does not end until the one you serve dismisses you, gives you a command to serve others, or your own Master summons you away.
10. A Master may give permission for his slaves to talk freely around him in private. In public, however, a slave does not speak freely but must have permission to speak.
11. Jealousy is a fact of life among slave girls. Men do not meddle in the affairs of slaves. So if you must play your jealousy, do so between yourselves, not in front of the free. Your master does not care if you are jealous and showing it is a dishonor to him.
12. Unless your Master requires it, you never nadu in front of free women. And white silks do not nadu to anyone but their masters.
13. Slaves are always being judged. Every action you take or word you speak reflects on your master. Slaves must be graceful and respectful at all times. Do not role play being clumsy, tripping, spilling, etc., unless you want to be beaten or sold. It is merely an act of attention seeking that a true slave would never attempt for she knows what the whip feels like and would do anything in her power to avoid it. Gor is not about sado-masochism.
14. Know the positions a Gorean slave may be commanded to assume and do them correctly. The most likely to be used are tower, nadu, belly, obeisance, hair, leasha, use, she-sleen and she quadruped.
15. Learn the foods and drinks of Gor, especially anything native to your city. If someone asks you for something silly like a gin and tonic or coke, gently tell them you do not have such beverages in your city and suggest another. Although there are many common foods between earth and Gor, they are not always called the same thing. You need to know what someone is ordering, if you do not, then a list will be provided. You must also know what vessels are used for each beverage or food and what spices, etc., are available as condiments. When you know these, you can use your imagination to make wonderful meals for your master or his guests.
16. It is death to a slave to touch a weapon without specific permission of the Master, this is because some slaves would sooner kill then remain in bondage. Kitchen implements to peel, spread butter, and even chop vegetables and slice meat are not considered weapons and you may use them if your master does not object.
17. A slave has no money and would never cheat the free when given a coin to purchase something. In only a few cities are slaves forbidden to touch coin. If your master requires you to only hold coins in your mouth, then you must. Otherwise, you may take coins in your hand. If sent to shop, a pouch or other device is often tied about a slave's neck.
18. Slaves are not children they are full grown women. If your character is under 18, federal law and AOL considers you a child for purposes of enforcing child pornography laws, so if you act out sexually, you may be putting your own (and anyone who plays with you) account in jeopardy and you could face criminal circumstances. Always be sure to IM someone who wants sexual role play and ask his/her age and the age of the character.
19. Slaves should be witty and charming. There is a saying on Gor: An ignorant free woman is commonplace. An ignorant slave is an absurdity. Be sparkling, attentive, and know Gor.
20. Tal and greetings are simply two common phrases for politely meeting someone. Restrictions on who may use which word is an AOL falsity. Slaves are not wrong to use tal to free people, nor are the free required to use only greetings when addressing a slave.
21. Never give private room links in your Master's house or businesses to anyone without his permission.
22. If you act out or make mistakes, expect punishment. Slaves are not coddled. They are always corrected.
23. Brother and sister are terms used for slaves whose names you don't know. They can also be used as terms of endearment to one another, but are not commonly used for every address of a fellow slave.
24. If you do not know what a person has asked for then don't try to make something up. IM the person and be honest and say I don't know what that is.
25. Ko-lar and urth are not Gorean words. They were used in the books by someone phonetically sounding out English words. Aii and ki were used only as a local dialect. Don't use them for yes and no.
26. Never argue with the free, even if they are wrong. If you are accused of a mistake, swallow your urge to make excuses and apologize and beg forgiveness. There is a Gorean saying "a slave always has the last words and they are 'yes, master.'"
27. Learn not to use demanding phrases. E.g., Be well. Forgive me. Instead use more humble words, e.g., I wish you well. I beg forgiveness.
28. Never interrupt the free unless there is an emergency. If you enter a room where free are present and talking, do not speak up while they are speaking. When there is a lull in the conversation, then you may greet. If needed before hand, you will be summoned. Many men prefer their slaves do not speak when they enter a room until he or she is recognized by a master's word or gesture.
29. If your service is not needed, or after you complete it, if not kept at your master's side by his words or gestures, make yourself useful (if in a den or tavern, pick up soiled glasses, etc.) then if you wish to stay in the room, go to slave mats or a corner and kneel quietly until addressed. Do not sigh, fidget or bring undue attention to yourself, it is annoying and could result in punishment. If you want to be seen, be seen doing something constructive: lighting tharlarion oil lamps, sweeping, etc.
30. Pouting and frowning are petulant behaviors and mar the beauty of your master's property. Heavy sighs when not given what you consider enough attention are unbecoming. Always strive to be pleasing and avoid displeasing behaviors. There is one situation when it is proper to gently remind a free person of your presence. If you have returned with the refreshment ordered and are not acknowledged within a reasonable amount of time (2-3 minutes), you may play out something to the effect of :: she waits by Master/Mistress (insert name) feet, the goblet offered up::
31. Remember always your primary duties are absolute obedience and exquisite beauty.
