It was a Sunday full of cup action and plenty of net bulging for all involved at the Gaunt FC. Firstly Steve Randall's side continued their recent good run with a 4-2 victory over Sporting Dynamo in the first round of the Sunday Premier Cup. A brace from Carl Adams, a spotkick from Aaron Lagor and a tremendous volley from Kyle Winston saw off the side from the Hinckley League, although it was more comfortable than the scoreline suggests.
And an injury ravaged and strewn toghether Gaunt FC Reserves carried on their tremendous run with an extra time victory 6-4 victory over Moira United in the Sunday Shield. This puts both teams in the second round of their respective competitions. Lets see if we can bring home some more silverware to add to our bludgeoning trophy cabinet.
Next week sees a blank Sunday for the first team, who were meant to be playing Wymeswold, but through injuries and a Butlin's trip away, the fixture has been cancelled and is scheduled to be played at a later date. Anyone still left about in Leicester can still see some Gaunt FC action at Birstall Lane on Sunday. Our Reserves take on Loughborough Academicals in a league match which could potentially take us eight points clear after only five matches.
****Please Note, League tables have been updated on the site, so check them out.
After my injury on Sunday and being told by the doc's to have between 4 and 6 months off, I have decided to do something useful with myself and sort this site out. Hopefully from now on, there will be weekly match reports, with pictures and hopefully quotes from players, managers and fans alike. After all, it is time that I started put my alledged journalistic skills to the test. If there is anything you, the fans or players want putting on the site, then have a word with me or email me at prflan@hotmail.com. For now boys, Larry.
It was another successful Sunday for all involved with the Gaunt FC with another two victories chalked up, although they were perhaps marred by the injury to 'influential' (haha) midfielders Paul Flanagan, who has suffered a broken tibia in his right leg, and the jarred knee of first team captain, Ryan Tuckwood. Though hopefully the latter will be available for the important upcoming Wymeswold game on Sunday week.
Back to the football and on brighter notes, Gaunt FC were 5-1 victors over Division 2's Charnwood FC in the First Round of the Everard's League Cup. A trophy which must be on the wish list this season for gaffer Steve Randall after seeing his side progress to the Semi-Finals of the same competition last term. A hat trick from the unpredictable (how drunk will he be this week?) Carl Adams, and one apeice from Aaron Lagor and Rob Harris rounded off the rout.
It was also another good day for the Gaunt Reserves who made it four wins from four in their first season in Division Two. This time it was Cossington Royal Oak who were put to the sword 5-2 by Dave Smiths men. Unfortunately at the time of writing, the scorers are not known to myself.
This coming Sunday again sees the firsts at home, this time in the Sunday Premier Cup against an unknown outfit in Sporting Dynamo FC, and the reserves looking to make it five wins out of five for the season, though this time in the Sunday Shield, with a trip away to Moira United.
