Welcome to the 2008/2009 school year! This year's sports will be boys' and girls' basketball, cheerleading, and girls' volleyball.
 GO LIONS!!!

This website has been set up so that parents and team members can check game and practice schedules.
Are you interested in coaching? Being a team mom/parent? Contact MarySue Swift, Athletic Director for a list of responsibilities at the school at 925-634-0493. Ideally I would like to have a coach and assistant coach for each team. All coaches must be fingerprinted and approved by the A/D and administrator. This is for the safety of our children.
If you have any questions regarding the sports department please feel free to contact me during school hours at 925-634-0493. Or you can send me an email at swift@gatewaychristianschool.org.

Responsibilities of a coach:
As a coach for Gateway Christian
School you will be
expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:
- First and foremost, you are responsible to
maintain a Christian atmosphere and focus for your team at all times. You are their role model so the
Christian attitude begins with you!
Sometimes this responsibility spills over and it becomes necessary
to control parents as well.
- Teach and direct the players to condition
their bodies and in learning the skills to make them the best that they
can be at the game. You are to be an encourager to the players and to
teach them to encourage one another.
Important skills are teamwork and sportsmanship in victory and in
loss. If they have played their
best and worked together as a team everyone has done an excellent job to
be proud of no matter the outcome a game.
- ***Parent Communication – you will relay all
information to parents regarding practice, game schedules, departure
times, team rules, etc. This will
usually be done in writing. On
occasion when there are last minute changes which must be communicated by
phone. Copy to Athletic Director
for approval before giving to parents.
- ***Arrange for carpools to games and
practices. Parent need to fill out
vehicle and insurance information.
Vehicle must have seatbelts for every passenger and passengers must
wear them. Carpools should try to
stay together.
- You are responsible for the well being of each
student until they are picked up.
At no time may you leave a practice or game until all students are
picked up.
- If you schedule any other practices at any other
locations than what has been provided you are to provide the dates, times,
and locations in writing to the Athletic Director.
- You will keep and maintain all equipment, turning
it in at the end of the season.
- You will assign, issue, collect, and return all
uniforms.
- You will be available for all practices and games
up to and including playoffs and league tournaments. If you have an emergency and cannot
attend, contact the Athletic Director immediately.
- Secure scorekeepers. Give game scores to Athletic Director
and keep track of team record.
- Call in game results to the Athletic Director.
- Coaches are responsible for the following:
Emergency cards – cards
are to be brought to and from each game
First Aid Kit
Equipment (A/D will provide all of this equipment and information, but coach must have at all times)
- Coaches need to keep an attendance record for
games and practices and turn it in to the Athletic Director at the end of
the season.
- Statistics for the year need to be in.
- Coaches need to choose players for the following
awards:
MVP, Most Improved, Most
Inspirational, Christian Athlete of the Year
- Coaches must attend Sports Awards Night
- Team pictures need to be taken and turned in so
we have a picture for the yearbook.
- Let all players know that sports fees are due the
first week of practice to the Athletic Director.
- Choose a team mom to help with rides and phone
calls. If you have more than one
volunteer be sure to choose the one that will work best with you and how
you want to run your team.
***Responsibilities that can
be assigned to a team mom if one is available for your team.

We will be needing team mom/parents for each of the future sports to come in the school year: Soccer, and Volleyball for boys and girls teams. If your student will be playing on any of these teams please consider filling this position. It is a vital asset to the coach and in getting every team to games and in keeping parents inform.
Team Mom/Parent Responsibilities:
Make necessary calls to players and/or parents. This includes notifying parents when a game or practice has been canceled or rescheduled. Note that all written communications to parents/students must be approved by the Athletic Director before being passed out.
Arrange carpools to and from all games.
Be present (or arrange for another parent or the coach to be present) when players are dismissed from school to attend a game so that players are supervised when leaving school in their carpools. Also responsible to check with Athletic Director to see that all drivers have proper insurance on file with the school for carpooling students. If no insurance on file drivers may only drive their own child and no other students.
Organize a snack schedule. Be aware that most gyms have a no food policy. Players will to be instructed to eat their snack outside.
Collect money for team party that will be held at the end of the season and organize party
