Gateridge Farms was born in the heart of Texas in 1998.

A Little History....

When I was born, my family worked on the YO Ranch in Kerrville, and I spent my formative years on various ranches across central Texas.  When my children came along, I encouraged them to love and respect animals.  Before moving to the central Texas area in 1996, we had spent many years in west Texas.  My daughters, Ashley and Brianna, were always interested in showing animals.  They had shown horses, lambs, registered sheep, pigs and chickens.

When goats came on the scene, we naturally moved to showing them.  Searching around for prospective wethers, the boer goat quickly came to the forefront.  We showed some nubian/boer crosses our first years.  As my daughters were growing up, I decided to find something to raise that would fit on my small acreage and would possibly be able to support itself.  Goats were a natural choice.  Before long, we were raising our own percentage animals but the fullbloods were what drew our attention.  In 1998, we got our first start in fullblood Boers from John and Jackie Edwards when we purchased a doe named EGGSOtic (sired by Tarzan by Kaptein and out of a Venter doe).  EGGSOtic was bred to a young buck named EGGSFile.....This was to be the first offspring of EGGSfile----who, at the time, was a particular favorite of John's.  Gateridge Faith was born in the spring of 99 and started us on the road to breeding some really nice fullbloods.  EGGSFile went on to set a breed standard that has never been equalled and I continue his bloodlines as the foundation of my breeding program.

Today, my daughters have moved on to families and careers of their own....

But I still keep a small nucleus of quality fullbloods, still carrying the bloodlines of my first doe, EGGSoctic, and the all-time great EGGSfile.  I may not have the large numbers of some breeders, nor am I able to make great numbers of shows each year, but the quality and consistency of my herd speaks for itself.  I have culled heavily to get the herd that I now have, and continue to do so each year, resulting in a very consistent type of animal.   Foremost in the animals that I keep for breeding are correct bite and structure, while maintaining the "boer" qualities of body type, quick growth, and great mothering/siring abilities.  EGGS genetics continues to be the backbone of my herd.

If you are looking for "numbers" I don't have them...but if you are looking for quality and value, come visit.    Goat talk is always welcome.  The Gates are always open at GateRidge Farms!
