The summer is almost over. Can you believe it? It seemed like since the first day the kids were out of school the Gate has been buzzing like bees with questions and laughter. Unexpected pop-in visits, wondering "Is the GATE open today, " or "Mrs. Wanda, can I come in?" This was a hot summer and sometimes there were little visits. Our kids would just stop by on the walk to the pool or home to use the bathroom or to get water.
Our volunteers are the best. They have taken time and energy, sometimes away from their own vacation or lunch hour, to share with us in Operation Space Camp, ACTION Camp, Lil Gators and our Open Gate Fridays. Since September, over 43 children have given their lives to the Lord and asked Him to come into their hearts and be their Savior and Redeemer. That's not counting the many lives that were touuched even before I became Executive Director of the GATE.
We just finished our Back to School Bash were we were able to serve over 245 friends within the community and give school supplies to an estimated 215 kids. This year, because of the sacrifices that you made, we did not have to turn anyone away.
The crazy thing about all of this is that at the beginning of the summer, I wondered how it would all get done. We were blessed to be able to go to Florida and bring home the title to Kinston of All American City and when we got home it was "come on and let's go." I scratched my head at how it would all get done. I wanted everything that was done at the GATE to be successful, to honor God in who we were and WHO we stood for......
"Commit thy works unto the Lord and thy thoughts shall be established."
Proverbs 16:3
That was it. The answer was clear.
So here we are. Ready to start another school year. I am excited about what God is continuing to do at THE GATE. And I am ready, with God's help, to Commit and Work to establish the mission of the GATE within the Kinston and Lenoir County Community.
Won't you commit and work with me?
