23.5 Degrees

For many years, we have been told by Egyptologists and historians that the pyramids of ancient Egypt were the tombs of the Pharaohs and nothing more.

    This is the ‘official line’ and this could indeed be true as regards the majority of the pyramids in Egypt, which were clearly built by the ancient Egyptians – many of which collapsed to rubble soon after being built. But ask the many researchers (those not funded by institutions) who have made a life time study of the pyramids, and they would most likely tell you that the Great Pyramid of Giza is unique – not just because it is a perfect pyramid which has withstood the ravages of time – but because it appears that one of its purposes was to preserve knowledge. They will also tell you that much meaningful information has already been derived from the Great Pyramid, even though many scholars and academics – i.e., those funded by the institutions and establishments – have never really accepted this data and continue to ignore it.

   

During the last months of 2002, I made a new major discovery about the Great Pyramid of Giza: that the Polar or Celestial Axis of the Earth, which is presently tilted at 23.43 degrees from the ecliptic (given as 23.5º in most text books on the subject) is clearly referenced in the geometrical structure of the Pyramid.    

    (See Great Pyramid and the Earth's Axis). Furthermore, it appears that the overall structure and certain internal features of the pyramid also contain data about the Earth’s geophysics and orbital dynamics.

    We also find that the Great Pyramid is actually pointing to its own location on the earth – being almost 30 degrees North from the Equator, and this is the decisive factor for me as regards the authenticity of this encoded information.

    This new discovery about the Great Pyramid is remarkable in itself; but how I actually uncovered this hidden information never fails to amaze me – even now as I reflect on it – as it involved a 17th century painter who on the surface appears to have had nothing to do with Egypt and the pyramids of Giza . . . an artist whose works of art are believed to contain a code which many researchers have endeavored for years to decipher with no real success.  

   

It would surprise many to learn that I first discovered this information about the Great Pyramid through studying and deciphering the hidden codes in two paintings by the French artist Nicolas Poussin (1594–1665). These initial discoveries and my own interpretation of the data will be revealed for the first time in a book I am preparing for future publication, Axis of God.

Furthermore, and since 2002 whilst researching into these discoveries, I have uncovered much additional data as to ‘why’ this information had been encoded – data which is very supportive of my initial findings.

    For instance, I made the amazing ‘bonus’ discovery that the angle of 23.5º had been deliberately encoded in numerous different sources throughout history.

    Its one thing to find this angle for the first time in the geometrical structure of the Great Pyramid and also the layout of the Giza necropolis; but to find this same angle having been deliberately encoded over and over again in various works of art – i.e., paintings, sculptures, architecture, symbolic imagery – both ancient and contemporary – is quite staggering.

   

One could and would argue that according to the ‘law of averages’, this angle is sure to appear in many paintings and as frequently as all the other angles we can extract from a 360º circle.

    However, the truth is, that the paintings or sources I have analyzed are all associated by theme, and also contain deliberately planned, conspicuous linear items and features that are just “begging to be measured” so as to obtain the angles being presented.

    For the sake of balancing the argument and to try to prove myself wrong, I also looked into the fact that the angle of 22.5 degrees is also a common angle used in art for perspective, as 22.5º is one sixteenth of a 360º circle. I mention this so that others would be aware of this and could perhaps use this in their argument and so test this themselves if interested. [UPDATE 6th JULY 2006.     I must point out that I have examined many paintings, and have found that although some of the overall ‘perspective features’ in some paintings are in the ‘right ball-park’ and could therefore be associated with the 22.5º angle of perspective so as to support this given fact, I have found that many suspect features, such as staffs, poles, flagpoles, spears, lances, clubs, bones, limbs, swords and other linear objects, are definitely at an angle of 23.5º and sometimes 23 degrees. We find this with certain linear items or features in well-known Masonic symbols and esoteric symbolism – and especially those we find in highly symbolic paintings portraying mystical or religious themes.

    Furthermore, although very close, the angle of 23.5º is not mentioned as having anything to do with the common angles of perspective, so the many references to this angle must mean something else – and for the time being, the obliquity (tilt) of the earth’s axis is the main contender for me.

    For example, the angle of 23 degrees appears quite implicitly in ancient Egyptian art – especially illustrations or wall-relief scenes that feature the Djed Column.

                                          and so appears to be a very early reference to the present obliquity angle of the earth’s axis.

This is significant, as the Djed Column represents not only the shamanic axis mundi or ‘world tree’ – being the earth’s axis and the axis of the universe, but also the backbone of the god Osiris – hence the title I have given to this work.

    On page 125 of The Secret Teachings of All Ages, Manly P. Hall writes: "Frank C Higgins, a well-known Masonic symbolist, has astutely noted that the ornate headgears of certain gods and Pharaohs are inclined backwards at the same angle as the earth's axis."  Indeed before my co-author Philip Gardiner sent me this quote, I had already noticed that many depictions of Osiris in profile showed his Atef crown angled at 23 to 23.5 degrees. The crown worn by Seti I in the wall painting above is even angled at 23 degrees.

    But it is at this point that we may ask, ‘why’ is the earth’s inclined axis being referenced in all these sources? After all, some believe, and are of the opinion, that the tilt of the earth’s axis is a ‘natural phenomenon’, and that the 23.5º tilt is necessary as the summer and winter cycles govern life on our planet. But, if this is true, then why do we find references to the angle of 23.5º in paintings on the theme of death, battle, war and conflict?

    What exactly did the ‘initiate’ artists know – those who gave reference to this angle? . . What were these people trying to tell us?

    

My own interpretation as regards these encoded references in the paintings and many other sources, and based on a lot more evidence which I have found and have yet to present, is that it was believed by the ‘initiated’ that the tilt of the earth isn’t natural, nor is it an ideal situation. Indeed it is a fact that the early Greek philosophers considered the tilt of the earth to be an unnatural and “irregular condition” and not something that had been set in motion since the beginning of creation.

    Surprisingly, the angle of 23.5º appears in many medieval illustrations – especially those based on the macabre Dance of Death – a popular theme after the plagues that swept through Europe – as well as themes like the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

The same angle turns up in many paintings from the Baroque period (17th century) – especially paintings on the Vanitas theme which were popular in Europe at that time.

    Vanitas means ‘emptiness’ or ‘untruth’ from which we derive the English word ‘vanity’. These compositions are usually ‘still life’ images or genre subjects with the objects symbolising the transience of life and mostly always feature a human skull, arm and thigh bones, antiquarian books, swords, candles, musical instruments, an hourglass and other paraphernalia arranged somewhat haphazardly on a table or large ornate chair.

    Skulls are also an endemic feature in many of the 17th century paintings on the “ET IN ARCADIA” theme – again those by the painter Nicolas Poussin and also the painter Guercino (1618–1622).

As the examples given above shows, it appears that the people who have been placing these references to the angle of 23.5º in many different sources throughout history are telling us that the tilt is associated with ‘death’.

    The only explanation I could see, is that it was/is believed by those who have encoded this information, that division, argument, war and all kinds of conflict – regarded as natural elements in human nature and experience – is really the result of the tilt of the earth’s axis; or that the tilt reflects this imbalance and general disharmony in the system linked to the collective human consciousness and vice-versa.

    From my research into these references and the cross-referencing of significant data relating to them, I'm compelled to look into the possibility that long ago something dramatic happened to the earth which caused it to tilt from an upright position – almost causing the death of the human race and everything on the earth. Man then fell into the cycles of time, and as every mystical or ‘esoteric initiate’ knows, cycles mean ‘entrapment’ for the soul, which is trying to escape these repeating cycles and patterns.  

    Perhaps this is the real meaning behind the ‘fall of man’ related to the story of the Garden of Eden in the Bible, because as any geophysicist would tell you, if the earth was upright – i.e., zero  – there would be no seasons. Most regions of the earth, especially the belt areas above and below the equator, would be of temperate climate – a continual springtime where no winter season would exist to bring a temporary halt to nature. There would be an abundance of food, and fertility would be at an all time high . . . a virtual Garden of Eden. Was this the Golden Age – known as Tep Zepi “the First Time” by the ancient Egyptians? Was this utopian paradise known as Arcadia?

 

   

Paradise Lost:

Man's Fall from the Garden of Eden and the Great Flood

 

There are allusions and even clear references given in some classic works of literature that infer that the Deluge ('biblical Flood') and the 'Fall of Man' were both related to the same event.
The main theme of Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost - taking just one example - is the “Fall of Man” from the ‘Garden of Eden. These lines are from ‘Book IX’:

‘Some say, he bid his Angels turn ascanse The poles of earth, twice ten degrees and more,
From the sun’s axle; they with labour pushed Oblique the centrick globe . . .’

‘Askance’ means ‘sideways’ or ‘deviate,’ and we are told that “he” – meaning God – had “bid his Angels” to do this – i.e., ‘ordered’ that they tilt the earth and push it away from “the sun’s axle” – being the upright ecliptic pole. But as some scholars and researchers have now acknowledged, the “God” of the Bible and his “Angels” are said to be the Elohim - meaning 'gods' - and in this is meant the god Yahweh, or possibly even the Sumerian god Anu as well as his sons and entourage, the Anannage or ‘Shining Ones’ who are reported to have landed in Mesopotamia, and there created the ‘Garden of Eden’.

The rest of Milton’s verse.

‘ . . . to bring in change Of seasons to each clime; else had the spring Perpetual smiled on earth with vernant flowers, Equal in days and nights, except to those Beyond the polar circles; to them day Had unbenighted shone. . .’
Did Milton really believe that the earth’s axis was once upright? If so, then what was the source of his belief and the inspiration for his work?
We are told that his influences include the Bible, his own Puritan upbringing, the Roman poet Virgil and Sir Edmund Spenser – an Elizabethan writer on the theme of Arcadia. In his edition of Milton’s Paradise Lost, Scott Elledge takes it for granted that the earth’s axis was once upright:

“ . . . before the earth was tilted on its axis at the time of the Fall, there were no colures, the two circles that intersect each other at right angles at the poles, and divide the equinoctial and the ecliptic into four equal parts. One passes through the equinoctial, the other through the solstitial, points of the ecliptic”.

In his analysis of Milton’s Paradise Lost, writer Pete Stewart informs us:

‘As Milton points out, were this not the case, were the Earth and the Heaven still ‘in eternal congress’, unseparated, then perpetual spring would smile, and conditions on earth would be those of a constant equinox, with day and night of equal length and no seasonal variation’. [2]

 

Joscelyn Godwin also quotes the above lines from Milton’s Paradise Lost as well as Thomas Burnet’s Telluris Theoria Sacra, or The Sacred Theory of the Earth – written in 1681:

‘The Poles of the world did once change their situation, and were at first in another posture from which they are now, till that inclination happen’d [. . .] the earth chang’d its posture at the Deluge, and thereby made these seeming changes in the Heavens; its Poles before pointed to the Pole of the Ecliptick, which now point to the Poles of the Aequator, and its Axis is become parallel with that Axis [. . .] And I am apt to think, that those changes in the course of the Stars, which the Ancients sometimes speak of, and especially the Aegyptians, if they did not proceed from defects in their Calendar, had no other Physical account than this. And as they say the Poles of the World were in another situation at first, so at first they say, there was no variety of seasons in the year, as in their Golden Age’.  [3]

The quotations given above suggest that both the tilt of the earth’s axis and the Biblical flood resulted from the same global tragedy. Again quoting Pete Stewart:

‘Milton suggests that this [Golden Age] had been the case prior to the expulsion of Adam and Eve from Eden. It was their disobedience which caused God to order the end of this timelessness’. [4]

In his own summary of Book X of Milton’s Paradise Lost Michael McGoodwin writes:

‘God causes the sun to move and changes the tilt of the earth, creating the seasons of cold and heat’. [5]

Another source gives this summary:

‘God tells the angels to transform the Earth. After the fall, humankind must suffer hot and cold seasons instead of the consistent temperatures before the fall. On Earth, Adam and Eve fear their approaching doom and blame each other for their disobedience’. [6]

And here we are confronted with a problem as according to the Bible, the “Fall of Man” – associated with Adam and Eve’s expulsion from the ‘Garden of Eden’ and the “Deluge” associated with the Biblical Flood and Noah’s Ark – are seen as two separate events.
Are these two different stories related to the same event?

 

 

Was the Earth Once Upright?

 

If the earth did not tilt from an upright position, and had never been vertical, then to explain these references in the paintings and other sources, it appears that such a scenario was nevertheless believed by many to have happened, as Milton's Paradise Lost suggests, or perhaps the vertical position of the earth was possibly an ‘ideal’ that only existed in the mind of man and largely based on ‘upright’ spiritual ideas and concepts that are shamanic in origin. I cannot stress this enough, because it’s not my intention to prove that the earth was once upright, nor my own belief that it ever was – only to bring attention to the evidence that it was once ‘believed’, and perhaps still believed that this was once a reality and/or should be or will be again. The evidence for this is in the many encoded references that my book, Axis of God, now brings attention to for the first time in hundreds, if not thousands of years.

 

Furthermore, we find that the same angle appears in paintings that feature Jesus and other avatars and saints – especially scenes of the Crucifixion and also paintings that express the theme of enlightenment and illumination.

    Many of us are only now discovering that the Jesus story is really based on the shamanic and pagan conception of the ‘resurrection god’ of many cultures, who in ancient Egypt was represented by the god Osiris and also Horus – the son and reincarnated-self of Osiris.  

    

Keeping this in mind, we can see how the Crucifixion of Christ – especially the Cross which is tilted when carried by Christ to his place of execution and then raised up vertically, is really based on the ancient Egyptian ritual of the ‘raising of the Djed Column’ from its tilted position. The Djed was the Axis of God – being the backbone of Osiris, which represented the earth’s axis and vice-versa, and it was raised on the Spring Equinox – one of only two days in the year that has the same conditions as the earth would be if it were upright – i.e., equal hours of day and night and temperate climate.

From the moment Jesus was condemned to death there are a series of 14 events known as ‘Stations of the Cross’ that lead up to his Crucifixion and burial. There are 12 Stations before the crucifixion itself which appear to reference the  Sun’s journey through the 12 signs of the Zodiac – the 12 constellations that are aligned with the Ecliptic.

Inspired by my initial discovery of these 23.5-degree references in paintings and other sources, writer Jan Wicherink made some discoveries of his own which he presents in his article The Sunny Side of Christianity. On the subject of the “12 Stations” Jan writes:

 

‘Jesus falls exactly three times during the Passion on the Via Dolorosa at the third, seventh and the ninth Station of the Cross. In an alternative narrative of the Stations of the Cross, Jesus falls only once on the sixth Station of the Cross. It’s remarkable that the Stations of the Cross, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 9 are not attested to in the gospels. It’s therefore interesting to realize that Jesus his fall on the Stations of the Cross 3, 6 (7) and 9 with his crucifixion at 12 again form a perfect cross in the Passion of Christ.

    Even in Christ his death struggle in the twelfth Station of the Cross a four pointed cross can be discerned. Christ was crucified at 9 o’clock in the morning. At exactly 12 o’clock the land became dark for 3 hours. At 3 o’clock in the afternoon Christ exclaimed ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’ after which he died on the cross. He was wrapped in cloths and put to rest in the tomb of Joseph of Arimethea in a rush just before the start of Sabbath at six o’clock. Nine, twelve three and six form a perfect cross in the face of a clock, symbolically referring to the twelve hours in the precession cycle, the twelve signs of the zodiac and the cross therein. While Jesus was born around the winter solstice, he died around the spring equinox, the day of the Jewish Passover or Pesach.  So even his birthday and day of dying correspond with the equinox and solstice cross of the zodiac.’     

    During a Great Celestial Conjunction Horus dies on the cross of het zodiac after completion of the 26.000 year Great Year and having passed through all of the signs of the zodiac. The zodiac cross (equinox-solstice) axis has now finally been erected again after 6480 years. This moment represents a Great Celestial Conjunction (Smelyakov-Wicherink 2006). After 2017 both crosses will separate again, the cross will tilt and the Sun has risen from death (Resurrection of Christ) to start a new precession cycle of 26.000 years all over again. The ending of the precession cycle, the current Great Celestial Conjunction around 2012 is what Christianity has come to denote ‘The end of Times’ and corresponds with the Second Coming of Christ (the Sun).[7]

 

As we know, it is said that Jesus the Christ was crucified on the ‘Hill of Golgotha’, (“place of the skull”) during Easter (associated with the Spring Equinox), and it was from this vertical position that Christ then ascended to heaven, and this part of the story is important, because we are being told that the only way we can enter heaven is by being ‘upright’ and in every way that we can apply the term – meaning properly centred and balanced. And although this could be interpreted in terms of upright spiritual values, principles and morals, we are nevertheless also being told that at once upon a time, and perhaps during a Golden Age, the earth was not inclined at 23.5 degrees like it is now, but was indeed upright. The vertical axis represented the spine of man, and we are being told that through this erect position of the earth, man and all creation had a direct link with the Creator – represented by the ‘ecliptic centre’ in the heavens – the zero still-point to which the celestial pole of the earth would be pointing if vertical.

 

We can now see why the angle of 23.5º also appears in many religious drawings and paintings, and also those that depict an enigmatic individual who stands as an example of spiritual enlightenment and illumination, because the evidence suggests that the original shamanic and pagan conceptions that were used by the Church to establish Christianity were originally based on the ‘resurrection god’ and the rebirth of the shaman ‘saviour’ who was 'believed’ to have the power to ‘resurrect’ the earth’s axis back to its vertical position and bring back the balance of the Golden Age in terms of ‘healing’ the duality and imbalance in human consciousness.

   

This was the original belief and it appears to have developed from the knowledge and cosmological ideas of those who appear to have survived a global catastrophe – survivors of an advanced culture or civilisation, whose knowledge was based on shamanic experience and conceptions. It were they perhaps, who understood man’s spiritual side and possessed the wisdom that we now know as ‘esoteric knowledge’ – much of which is ancient and had been passed down to us from some remote and distant age which now resides within the ‘collective unconscious’ only.

    All this would explain why the angle of 23.5 degrees is referenced in sources that express both themes – i.e., illumination and enlightenment, and also death – meaning the near death of the human race due to the catastrophe that had once befallen the earth, or so it was believed. This explains the theme of the human skull which is not only referenced as the “place of the skull” on which Jesus was crucified and often depicted beneath the Cross in paintings of the Crucifixion, but it also features prominently in many of the Vanitas paintings . . . and also makes an appearance in Shakespeare’s play Hamlet. 

   

It must be said that the story of Hamlet was based on the tragic story of Osiris, Set and Horus, and according to the book Hamlet’s Mill (1969) by authors, Hertha von Deschend and Giorgio de Santillana (a professor or the history of science), the original versions of the story – i.e, ancient myths and very old folk stories from all over Europe and also Asia – contain encoded information about Precession and the orbital dynamics of the earth.

    The theme of decay, war, conflict and ruin, (imbalance) in which this angle can also be found repeatedly, appears to be associated with the symbolic “death” of the human race as a whole, in that man’s present condition is that his direct line with the Creator has been “severed” by the tilt of the earth, and so only those who have become enlightened and have been able to attain that link and maintain it by remaining balanced and centred in mind and body, can make it into heaven and perhaps reverse this situation for all by presenting themselves as an example.

   

In brief, this is the purpose of the 'hero' or messianic ‘saviour’ who is reborn at the ‘end-beginning point’ (alpha-omega) of every Astrological Age to deliver his message of enlightenment as allegorized in the Crucifixion, and so he stands as an example to those who have maintained that link and to ‘awaken’ and remind everyone of us of our own potential to achieve the same. Again this was the original idea and belief behind the ‘Messiah mythos’, and such beliefs may still be in existence today by those who understand the original conception of the ‘One’ who is born again and again to awaken man and perhaps even raise the earth’s axis back to its vertical position via this ‘collective awakening’, as the imbalance of the earth reflects the imbalance in human consciousness and vice-versa.

    He is the “once and future king” at the heart or centre of reality; whose spine (the Cross) is the earth’s axis and whose assembly are the 12 signs of the zodiac that surround the earth – each sign representing a 12th part of the human race, in that the total population of the earth can be segregated into the 12 birth signs. This Messiah or ‘Saviour’ based on the archetypal pagan ‘sun god,’ stands alone as the 13th and is therefore unique. We are reminded of King Arthur and his 12 ‘Knights of the Round table’ – and the theme of 12 is endless as we see in this splendid article by writer and magazine editor Thomas Thamm on his excellent 'Golden Age Today' Online Magazine website, 12 Around 1.

   

 

The Great Pyramid of Giza Connection

 

The more I researched into these discoveries; more remarkable data began to present itself: I found that the angle of 52 degrees is also referenced in these same sources and is almost as frequent as the 23.5-degree references.

    This is interesting because the significant thing about the angle of 52º is that this is the angle of the inclined sides of the Great Pyramid of Giza . . .

This painting is a good example of what I'm saying: that the most important features of the painting are those that yield up these angles.

For instance, aside from Jesus, the most important feature in this painting is the Cross at the centre and we find these significant angles in the

two beams of the Cross, indicating that the references to these angles were intended and are not down to chance or apophenia (just seeing things).

If, for example, I stated that the angle from the left ear of Jesus to the tip of the flag held by the centurion on the horse was 23.5 degrees and is

therefore evidence of the artist's intent to encode this angle, I would expect people to reject the whole thing as nonsense, 

However, the cross itself is at these angles and so its difficult to explain these references away as 'chance' or 'coincidence', and there are many more

compelling examples of this, where these angles are only found in those things that stand out as the main feature or features as if asking to be examined for these angles.

 

 

The Catholic Church was very powerful during the Dark Ages and the Middle Ages – and really until the dawning of Science and the so-called Age of Enlightenment -  so to be branded a heretic was very dangerous to one’s health.

    Those who knew the truth behind the Church and Christianity would have had to be seen to “toe the line” and so information and knowledge which would have been seen as “heretical” and otherwise suppressed and stamped-out by the Church, would have been encoded – not only to preserve it, but also to secretly pass this knowledge onto others.

    Aside from the use of ‘symbolism’, which has been used since ‘time immemorial’, the ideal medium for any code or cipher, and without it being obvious that one has encoded information, is the Arts. After all, to some extent, one has artistic licence to use any imagery one likes in the composition. It’s no surprise then to find that many architectural buildings, sculptures – especially illustrations and paintings – contain codes . . . and often the same code as I myself have discovered. Ironically, we find these codes in paintings that had been commissioned by elite members of the Catholic Church – many of them unaware that they had been patron to ‘heretic initiates’. No doubt many of these initiates had infiltrated the Vatican and were behind a good number of these benefactions and investments.

   

There is now much evidence to suggest that many elements of the Jesus story as told in the Gospels, are astrotheological; that the story was largely based on the astronomical alignments observed at Giza and the tracking of the constellation of Orion as well as the shadow phenomena associated with the Great Pyramid during the equinoxes and solstices. But more than this, the story was also based on what the pyramids were used for originally; in regard to shamanic initiation into the shamanic trance states, the mysteries of life, death and rebirth (reincarnation) and the ‘enlightenment experience’ – the knowledge of which was later preserved by the Gnostics, the Templars and the Freemasons, to name but a few.

    For instance, the constellation of Orion represented the ‘resurrection god’ of many cultures, and in Egypt this was Osiris as well as his son and reincarnated self, Horus.

    Again, Jesus the Christ was based on Horus the KRST, and so armed with this knowledge, it could be conjectured that the spear that pierces Christ’s right side in the Gospel of John, might be an encoded reference to the shaft that exits the King’s Chamber and aligns with Al-Nitak in the right side of Orion, according to author Robert Bauval’s ‘Orion Correlation Theory’. This is just one instance and there are many more.

   

There is also evidence to suggest that Orion was the 13th sign of the zodiac (“round table”) which correlates well with the 13th – the messiah at the centre who has 12 followers – 12 disciples, 12 knights, 12 tribes etc. And we also find that the star Al-Nitak of Orion was used as a kind of “gauge marker” to chart the cycle of precession – a phenomenon which is associated with the obliquity (tilt) of the earth’s axis and that this charting was implemented at Giza, which has been described as a ‘precessional clock’.

    But why chart the cycle of precession? Unless of course “Precession is a post cataclysmic phenomenon” as geoscientists Allan and Delair have stated. [7] 

    These are the themes I will be addressing and examining closely in my book – and I should add that the crux of Allan and Delair’s theory is that the earth was once upright, and only several thousand years ago, having become tilted due to comet  fragments from a supernova explosion in the region of the Vela star system.

Now let’s say that you possessed information that would be seen as “heretical”: that you understood that the stories presented in the Bible and the Gospels, and which had been adopted, adapted and promulgated by the Church, had really derived from an earlier knowledge and wisdom that was once known long ago in ancient Egypt, and perhaps even earlier. Let’s also say that you know that the symbolic message behind the geometrical layout of Giza and that the building of the Great Pyramid contains the true meaning behind many of these stories that had been misinterpreted, misconceptualised, and over the years had become corrupted, twisted and exploited in all kinds of ways to manipulate the beliefs of the collective and attain power over the collective consciousness. 

    Wouldn’t you want to bring attention to this information and knowledge? And if so, then you surely wouldn’t want to make it obvious. You would know that if you wanted to bring attention to the Great Pyramid as the source of all these mysteries, and send a message or communicate an important insight about it to those who would understand, you would only have to give reference to the angle of 52º by drawing or painting a linear object at this angle and emphasising it in such a way that is conspicuous and begging to be examined and measured.

    If I am correct about this association between the constant references to the angle of 52 degrees and the Great Pyramid, then this would also mean that this knowledge, as known only to the initiated, must reach back thousands of years to the time when the Great Pyramid was built and perhaps even earlier.

    In any case, all the elements which have been encoded in these many sources throughout history appear to be leading us back to ancient Egypt and Giza – as if revealing the true meaning behind the stories presented in the Gospels, which again, have been adopted, adapted and promulgated by the Church.

   

But now to the sources themselves . . .

 

   

Da Vinci, the All Seeing Eye and the Map of Washington

 

We find the angle of 23.5º and 52º repeated in Templar and Masonic symbolism – such as the Templar Cross Patee or Maltese Cross and also the Masonic Compass and Set-square. Most surprisingly we find the angle of 23.5º in Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous drawing, Vitruvian Man.

In his article, Jeff Nisbet gives a different interpretation of the 23.5 degree reference in Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man

 

As a matter of interest, if we take the circle around Vitruvian Man as marking the circumference of the earththe position of the heart on which these 23.5-degree lines intersect each other, would be at the lattitude of Giza and the Great Pyramid - being just under 30-degrees N of the Equator. Like a large winding serpent, the River Nile - the longest river in the world - would therefore align with the length of the spine of Vitruvian man, who also takes the same posture as Jesus on the Cross.

    It is also said that the first Zero 'Prime Meridian' ran through Giza - as marked by the Great Pyramid - and so the Giza Prime Meridian too would align here with the spine of Vitruvian Man. The many connections we can extrapolate from this one drawing alone are intriguing, but whether these additional connections were known by Da Vinci himself and intentionally encoded in the drawing is another thing.

   

The angle of 23.5º is even referenced in one of the most infamous symbols of them all – the “All-Seeing Eye” in the detached and floating capstone of the pyramid from which rays of light radiate. This symbolic image which is on every US $1  bill  is really a reference to the Great Pyramid of Giza which is missing its capstone and it’s amazing how people have overlooked this 23.5-degree reference. However saying this, I am also amazed at the large number of people who don't know that the earth is tilted at 23.5 degrees - or that it is even tilted!

The blocks of this pyramid are at the angle of 6.5º. And the left side corner is 11.75º . . . 2 x 11.75º = 23.5º  

Also, note that the south side edge of this pyramid on the far left has two angles. The lower angle is 33º (which is a significant number in Freemasonry as we know) and the angle above is 26.5º - the same angle of the ascending and descending passages inside the Great Pyramid. There are many symbolic details and clues in this one image alone. 


And what of the phrase "Sua Sidera Norunt"


The phrase comes from "Virgil's Elysium, which knows perpetual spring and shady groves, with its own sun and lit by its own stars - solemque suum, sua sidera norunt" (Aeneid book vi:541).

This is interesting because the only way there would be 'perpetual spring', was if the Earth's axis were upright. Again, was the Earth upright at one time? And if so, is this one of the secrets of the Freemasons? Perhaps the dagger (symbolic of a comet) angled at 23.5º in an interesting Masonic Tracing Board is perhaps a clue to the actual thing that caused the Earth's axis to tilt from this vertical position. On seeing this symbol, author Jan Wicherink pointed out that there is also a crescent on the Sphinx, which he says may be two horns and adds that the Sphinx may be a reference to the four beasts of the Apocalypse. It has the face of a man (Aquarius), the back of a lion (Leo) the front legs and chest of a bull, also horns (Taurus) and from the rear paw, an Eagle's talon (Scorpio). 

The astrological signs of Leo, Aquarius, Taurus and Scorpio also represent the four ‘ages of man’known as the ‘fixed’ signs of the zodiac. All four constellations are at ninety degrees to each other in the heavens – i.e., quadrants. 

Like the two days of the Equinoxes in the annual cycle associated with the cardinal signs Aries and Libra, the fixed signs of Leo and Aquarius represent the ‘end-beginning’ point, and the ‘halfway point’ in the precessional cycle. And like the Solstices, the ages of Taurus and Scorpio represent the extremes reached in each half of the cycle. There will be more on these connections in an update the near future.



Another source which gives reference to the angles of 23.5º and 52º, are the Main Streets of Washington DC, which we find on an early map of the Capital City.  Many researchers and writers who have studied the aerial map of Washington will often bring attention to the Pentagonal geometry that is said to exist on the Map. However, almost everyone has overlooked the fact that these streets, which converge and centre on the White House, are all at the angle of 23.5º. There is even a 52-degree reference on this map – being the angle of New Hampshire Avenue on the left.

    by drawing another 52-degree line that includes the Capitol Building and goes through both the City Museum and the Logan Circle intersections.

           diagram is found by simply placing another triangle (half size) upside down inside the large one (sides 51.84 degrees which

           represents the GP) and then measuring the angles between the intersections, which one will find each time to be 23 degrees.
      This means that the angle of 23 degrees is linked both geometrically and mathematically to this famous 52-degree-sided structure.

         I would emphasise that what we see here is not my major discovery about the earth's Axis which I have discovered within the

              geometrical structure of the Great Pyramid and is merely additional information which supports what I have discovered.

          quite well considering the amount of area covered. The angles in figure 10 show 23 degrees - as was possibly the intention

                   of the Great Pyramid architect(s) and builders.  However, we find that the streets of Washington alter slightly from

    this information and instead make a reference to the angle of 23.5 degrees - which is roughly the angle of the earth's axis at present.

In any case its still a good match and in my view this is the real encoded information which has been hiding in the map of Washington

          all this time and its all about the Great Pyramid and the information it contains pertaining to the obliquity of the earth's axis.

      What I find most amazing about this, is that I discovered this information by drawing-up the diagram shown in Figure 10 before

                        discovering this same information in the map of Washington - as first brought to my attention by Don Barone. [8] 


My own interpretation is that this design laid out in the groundplan of the US Capital by Pierre L'Enfant [9] in 1791 and on behalf of the Founding Fathers, is a symbolic gesture to this ancient knowledge which has remained largely a secret to initiates only. It says much for those who believe and maintain that encoded in the map of Washington are the secrets of the Masons or Illuminati.    

    I should also mention that while in the process of uncovering this additional data I have also been helped along the way by others, like my co-author Philip Gardiner and also Canadian researcher, Don Barone, to whom I had divulged some of the key elements of my research concerning these references to 23.5 degrees. The fact that others could find what I had already predicted, proved that I was dealing with a real phenomenon – something that had been overlooked by us all, even though the clues had been “hiding in plain view” and in many different sources throughout our known history – most likely encoded by a secret cabal of people who believed in these things and possibly for good reason.

   

My own theory, as to the reason why the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt is being referenced along with the angle of 23.5 degrees, is that it might have something to do with the ‘fact’ that the Great Pyramid also contains encoded information about the geophysics of the earth’s axis – again, something I discovered in 2002 – and that perhaps this is one of the major reasons why the GP was built in the first place. It is as if the well-informed people (initiates) who referenced these angles, are telling us that the Great Pyramid, or even Giza itself, contains the answers to the mysteries about our past.

    For example, going back to the map of Washington, there's no doubt that this design, as revealed in figure 10 is there and was intended, and for those who can decipher it, again the message is that the Great Pyramid contains this information about the geophysics of the earth and its orbital dynamics and was planned and built to preserve knowledge about this and perhaps for good reason. 

    Why would this be important?

    Well one could perhaps conjecture that the reason why Giza and the GP contains this knowledge, is that in the aftermath of what appears to have been a major catastrophe which tipped the earth and nearly caused the death of the human race and almost everything on the planet, it was decided that knowledge about the geophysics of the earth and other knowledge be preserved. Perhaps this "global catastrophe" - if it ever happened - is and was believed to be something that comes around again and again – i.e., cyclic – which would explain the inclusion of the hourglass in many of these Vanitas paintings, as well as the paintings and drawings that illustrate the ‘Dance of Death’ and which appear to be telling us that we only have a limited amount of time to “awaken” and understand our present condition, the condition of our planet and our place in the universe.

Update, June 24th 2006:

I wonder if anyone noticed that there is something wrong with the Washington Map?

Eric Michael Tull did, a poster who goes by the name of Roscoe on Graham Hancock's messageboard, and he brought attention to the fact that on the map, the Longitude is given as 0: 0. Today Washington is 77° 3' 2.3" west of Greenwich.

   

I am not surprised that we find an image of the GP and the angle of 23.5 degrees encoded within the streets of a map which has the longitude given as zero.

    Researcher Jim Alison writes that "Jefferson attempted to get the zero meridian through the White House" - which would mean it would go through the centre of this gigantic image of the Great Pyramid in the map. We might ask why?

    Well, this design appears to have been intended based on the belief that the original Prime Meridian went through Giza in Egypt, as marked by the Great Pyramid and that it was from here that all local times and distances were calculated.

    It was during the early 1800s, that the explorer Charles Piazzi Smyth first suggested that the Great Pyramid should mark the Prime Meridian (longitude zero) and really because his observation was that the Great Pyramid is located at the center of the earth’s landmasses.
    Based on his own calculations, in 1992 Prof. Carl P. Munck stated that the Giza Meridian is really the earth’s true prime meridian and "since the last polar shift some 13,000 years ago". Others have said that the Giza prime meridian isn’t the first, but was the first during the post-flood era – having been set-up after the catastrophe involving the polar shift and the resulting deluge. The same people suggest that the original ‘prime meridian’ ran through the centre of Atlantis as marked by the mythical Mount Atlas.
   

It is said that the original ‘world mountain’ was Atlas – the mountain or volcano that once stood at the centre of the sunken land of Atlantis. In some versions, it is said that Mount Atlas stood at the North Pole with the earth’s upright axis running through it.   

    There are numerous myths and legends that interrelate with the so-called ‘King of the World’ who remains entombed or “asleep” inside a WHITE mountain located at the centre of the earth – again with the earth’s axis running through it.

    This is all purely symbolic. On one level this mythical theme of an upright axis held in place by a mountain, is perhaps a reference to a previous age when the earth was upright – as many believe(d) that it once was or indeed should be. On another level, the “axis running through a mountain”, could be A), a reference to the original Prime Meridian during the pre-flood era, as in the mythical Mount Atlas which stood at the centre of Atlantis and possibly marked it, and/or B), the Prime Meridian that was re-located at Giza by the survivors of the Flood as indicated in this myth of a ‘white mountain’ at the centre of the earth – a clear reference to the Great Pyramid of Giza which was once encased in WHITE Tura limestone

    The ‘Giza’ Prime Meridian has been supported by mathematician Dr. Livio C. Stecchini, author and journalist Graham Hancock, veteran author, Colin Wilson, Atlantis theorist, Rand Flem-Ath and author, Crichton E.M. Miller.

 

So taking the above into consideration, it would seem that any city that adopts the Prime Meridian would be recognised as the 'centre of the world', as Atlantis once was according to legend, and there are also esoteric reasons for this which would not have been lost on those who were behind the groundplan of Washington. We would also note that the glass pyramid - a mock-up of the GP - is situated only yards away from the Paris Meridian which runs through the courtyard of the Louvre. 

     Today, the Prime Meridian runs through Greenwich in London. The Greenwich Meridian was agreed on at Washington by other world powers in 1884, but still France clung to the Paris Meridian and as a rival to Greenwich until 1911, supposedly for timekeeping purposes.


I would emphasise again, that the above does not reflect my own beliefs. However, I find it interesting that many people believe(d) this catastrophic scenario and favour(ed) all associated ideas and conceptions - especially when we discover that information associated with these beliefs has been encoded in various sources throughout history. So I am more interested in finding out 'why' people believe(d) it. Perhaps these people knew or know something we don't - something that has perhaps been known for thousands of years.

Higgins gives many examples taken from Freemasonry symbolism of references to the angle of 23.5 degrees, (see figures below) as well as the angle of 52 degrees, being the Great Pyramid side angles.

Very nice of you to write. You may be interested to know that I have previously studied your work and, indeed, make reference to your key discovery (23.5 degrees) in my book which, I theorise, is part of the 'message' the ancient Designers have encoded into the Pyramids.

My book explains this in much more detail. It also discusses the work of Allen and Delair and other scientific researchers of ancient Earth cataclysms.

I personally think what you have uncovered is deserving of much credit and I applaud your efforts. Seriously, excellent work!

Something I also noticed in da Vinci's 'Mona Lisa' which you may or may not have also noticed is the split or 'shifted horizon'. Perhaps also alluding to the ancient 23.5 degree 'message'. Also, the base of the Great Giza Triangle in my article creates a 47 degree angle from north (i.e. 23.5 x 2).

I shall have another look over your work just to refresh myself.

It's nice to know that people are becoming aware of these discoveries, and again there are Webpages going up all over the place about these 23.5 degree references.

But more than anything, I'm intrigued that a Masonic Lodge should present these findings under the title "How did they know?" - a statement that tells us that this angle holds a lot more significance for these people than they would otherwise admit.

Although, the pictures in this section were lifted from my website, and the text from an article by fellow researcher/writer and friend Jeff Nisbet who was inspired by my own findings, there's no recognition given as to who discovered these in the first place . . .

    The fact that others are coming to these same conclusions means that all these connections with Giza should be taken seriously and are indeed worthy of more research. If this is true, then perhaps we are also being told that this central source on the earth is the Great Pyramid, or that the Great Pyramid represents this source - or perhaps even marks this source in terms of the earth's energy grid and 'convergence points' which are said to exist.

    Its also intriguing to find that in this design and map the White House (residence of the US President) actually marks this energy source shown to be at the centre of the pyramid . . . "fire in the middle"? In terms of esoteric principles and concepts based on the shamanic  'Centre', 'World Mountain' and the 'World Tree' (Axis Mundi) the many connections we can make from all this are really quite astounding and so we can see how and why this design would have been intentional.

On the Possibility of Instantaneous Shifts of the Poles

Flavio Barbiero.

Flavio's theory is similar to but independent of the theory posed by Allan & Delair, who state that the earth was vertical before 9,500 BC and had become tilted due to a comet or asteroid.

"For example, on the hypothesis that the axis of rotation is almost vertical with respect to the ecliptic, there would be an enormous growth of ice at high latitudes and altitudes, with subsequent lowering of sea level. On the other hand the climate would be much more stable then it is today, with very limited (or non-existent) seasonal climatic differences and an uninterrupted growth of vegetation. This would bring about the disruption of today's climatic barriers, with subsequent spreading of tropical species towards northern regions and vice-versa. I am interested in the above quote because I would agree that amongst other things, the complex at Giza - (the pyramids and the sphinx) - was built as a 'precessional clock' to chart the cycle of precession - and perhaps because it became necessary after the catastrophe that tilted the earth . . . if true. Some researchers have put forward evidence that the Deluge was related to the tilt of the earth’s axis - or that it was believed it was. If so, then afterwards man had to learn agricultural skills in sync with the newly acquired seasons, and this scenario is suggested in Joscelyn Godwin’s book Arktos.    

    Godwin quotes Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712–1778) who believed that the earth’s axis tilted from the vertical in one fell swoop – bringing an end to the “Golden Age” and initiating the cycle of the seasons, therefore forcing man to measure time by the stars, the natural celestial markers of time, and learn the necessary agricultural skills needed for his own survival.

 

‘In the Golden Age, “Time” in all its plenitude was closer to Eternity than to duration. On coming out of paradise, we fell into time, and our ongoing flight is merely our Fall, gradually accelerating. Our measuring instruments are the signs of our anguish. A being that lives in harmony with the environment in which it flourishes has no need for a wrist watch: the courses of the stars are enough. It experiences growing old only as a happy ripening; it participates in the music of the spheres’.

So, could it be that the pyramids and these stone circles and other similar temples were set up to measure time? and for both agricultural and religious/ritual/magic reasons? Its an interesting hypothesis and one which would surely be worth looking into.

The book Uriel's Machine by Christopher Knight and Robert Lomas now comes to mind. In the 'Book of Enoch', we are told that Enoch was taken to different location around the earth by the Angels (Shining Ones) and shown these devices (circles and standing stones - hence the title "Uriel's Machine") that measured the Solstices and Equinoxes? Surely this would have been implemented to mark time after the earth tilted and man fell into the cycles of time - if indeed it did tilt.
