OVERVIEW OF REIKI

Reiki offers a simple methodology with wide application. It serves as a good introduction to energy-work leaving the individual immediately capable to practice and apply. 

Reiki is often marketed as a healing methodology -and that is true in the sense that supporting self and others to heal was an aspect of traditional Reiki. Practitioners may choose to use only this aspect of Reiki.

Primary to the system of founder Mikao Usui, was self-actualisation, or spiritual growth. Here Reiki offers the opportunity to begin some basic practices designed to guide behaviour along paths conducive to personal growth. Reiki is not a religion, and never was. 'Spiritual' refers to a dimension of existence, or Self, not to theoplogy, dogma or beliefs.

The internet teams with various definitions of Reiki, different Reiki styles or methods, and YES, many contradict each-other. If you consider that founder Mikao Usui did not even name the system, rarely taugh symbols or hand positions, the notion of 'the real system' becomes a bit silly. Clearly, the point and gift of Reiki lies beyond ritual and dogma -which it should, if anything spiritual can come of it.

Pressed to define Reiki, this would be it:

- Spiritually: An intent to grow as a Being, supported by committed efforts to traverse that way. 

- Healing: An intent to support healing, systematically applied.
