The G.A.M.V. is an Islamic discussion group at Garland High School. We have meetings every other Tuesday starting at 2:45 PM in room 709 (Mr. Belmir's Room). We welcome all faiths to join and/or to talk with us.

Garland Association of Muslim Values Constitution
Preamble:
The Garland Association of Muslim Values (GAMV) is an independent organization not supported by the Garland High School campus with focus directed toward promoting diversity and awareness to the surrounding community. All Muslim and non-Muslim students, teachers, administrators, and members of the Garland community have the right to attend meetings and functions and to partake in community service either by receiving or giving it.
Article I: General Purposes of GAMV
The General purpose of GAMV is to promote awareness of the diversity of the community of the city of Garland and its students, as well as provide community service for the community members and plan entertaining activities for members and non-members.
Article II: Election Procedures
To run for a position in office, a student must have a sheet signed by the previous officer of the position for which they are running, a parent, and the faculty advisor. At the last meeting of the year, students will turn in their sheets and give a speech to the group on why they should be elected for the particular position. Students will vote, and officers will make a final decision if the student is suited for the position.
-If only one student is running for a particular position, they are automatically awarded the position but still must have the sheet signed and give a speech on why they are best suited for the position. No voting for that position will take place.
-If the officers do not agree on a student taking a particular position, they have the right to choose another member for candidacy, or eliminate the position completely for the next year.
-If a new position is needed for the next year that was eliminated in the previous year, it is the responsibility of the new officers to choose a member who fits the position well.
-If there is a vacancy for any given position, whether it remain unfilled from the previous elections, or is abandoned mid-year, it is the responsibility of the new officers to either take two positions as their own, or allow for another election with willing candidates. No position should remain vacant without being eliminated.
Positions available are:
President, Vice President, Treasurer, Webmaster, Historian, and Secretary.
Article III: Duties
President:
- Distributes job descriptions and assignments after election to each officer
- Presides at all meetings of the group
- Works closely with sponsors, activities director, parents
- Ensures all officers are performing duties and reports to sponsor and activities director
- Develops all agendas for meetings, in advance, with sponsor approval
- Represents the organization at school or community functions
Vice President:
- Undertakes responsibilities of president if the president is not present
- Aides president in undertaking missions concerning the organization
- Presents ideas for fundraising at any appointed meeting, or when needed
- Works in conjunction with the treasurer in fundraising expenses and activities
Treasurer:
- Keeps accurate records of all financial transactions and makes reports to the organization at every meeting for minutes
- Reminds members and officers of goals and progress on spending, keeping track of all money that is collected and spent by the organization
- Provides current balance of organization’s account in writing at class meetings, with assistance from sponsor and parents
- Responsible for doing inventory with VP of all fundraising items on a regular basis, with a final count for audit by sponsor and parents in May
- Collects and turns in money to sponsor at all fundraisers or appoints an approved replacement
- Attends all meetings of the organization and officers
- Sets budget with sponsors, officers and parents and keeps class informed of bills collected and all income, expenditures for the year.
Webmaster:
- Creates and turns in announcements approved by the sponsor
- Updates and maintains the organization’s website
- Works in conjunction with VP and treasurer on fundraising ideas and activities,
including posting fundraising events, activities not related to fundraising, and
current information of the organization
Historian:
- Responsible for organization publicity (posters, phone calls, fliers, marquee, newspaper announcements, contacts table, etc.)
- Enlists volunteers to carry out publicity duties, provides materials, contacts helpers, and ensures that projects are carried out.
- Attends all meetings of the organization and officers
- Ensures that members are informed about fundraisers, social activities, and all organization news-ensures that announcements are made before every class activity, project and meeting
- Takes photographs at all activities involving the organization for the scrapbook, website, and/or senior video
- Works in conjunction with webmaster on current events
Secretary:
- Records what is done (not what is said) at all meetings of the organization
- Keeps copies of the minutes of meetings in notebook along with attendance records for all meetings, projects, activities.
- Provides copies of the monthly minutes to sponsor and activities director following every monthly meeting, including attendance records (uses form provided by activities director)
- Reads minutes at every meeting
- Attends all meetings of the organization and officers
- Assists the president in notifying all officers of meeting, scheduled and unscheduled
Article IV: GAMV Membership
Membership is open to any person, student of GHS, or member of the Garland community. To be a member, a person must attend two consecutive meetings and show regular attendance.
-To place your name as a member on any sheet (senior sheet, college applications, or job applications), you must have permission from one officer and the sponsor.
Article V: Meetings
Meetings are held every "B-day" Tuesday (or Thursday, when the situation calls for it). The president and vice president must meet informally between meetings to plan for activities. Any other officer is allowed and is encouraged to plan as well.
Article VI: Modification of the Constitution
Any member of officer is allowed to amend the constitution on any legitimate basis. If a member wishes to ratify, the article, sentence, or application must be written and reviewed by the president, any second officer, and the faculty advisor of the group. All three must agree. If they do not, a unanimous vote is required by the whole group. If agreed upon, the constitution must be rewritten with the appropriate changes made.
