Story 1

The whole Howgou tribe was outside getting ready for the trek except for one boy who sat upon his hay bed pondering on the so many questions that were running through his head. Why do we have to go away? What happened on that night when I was asleep? The boy’s name was Hatew and he was referring to what happened only last Sunday: While he was sleeping in his room he heard a shrill scream outside. His mother, Yerftera, ran in with a pale face and locked the door. She forbid herself to tell Hatew what happened, the only information that was disclosed to him was that the village was moving in 10 days. The village was not a very well known village, as they lived in the southeast corner of the Damoto forest, but they planned to move to Forgato forest which was located at least 30 miles away. There they would be safe… hopefully…

Hatew eventually fell asleep late at night. He woke up early the next morning, as he knew that this was the last day he was staying here. Although he knew he wasn’t leaving much behind he still would miss the tall trees and the sweet berries that grew only in this part of the world. He wandered around in the forest looking and examining the various creatures that lived here. The Buck Tailed Lizgarff, The Yellow Horned Damoto, and an array of other organisms. He didn’t return to village until late afternoon, when the sky was a shade of purplish-orange. He went to the well and washed his hands for dinner. As he sat down with the others of the village he wondered what it is like in a completely different region.

He went to sleep at about twelve that day. Although he couldn’t be certain, because the village did not own a clock, he could estimate by the position of the moon. He stirred in his sleep having dreams of him getting lost in the forest or him falling in a river and getting swept away by the current. He suddenly woke up sweating, recalling the dreams he had. He peered out of the window afraid. He saw that everyone was outside carrying the luggage that they would bring with them. He quickly put on his clothes and wore his special padded shoes. He rushed out of the worrying that he was the only one not ready.

The village was gathered outside of city hall, the tall building that they constructed last summer. Everybody looked as if they were about to fall asleep, but they knew that they must move. The village leader Farko motioned them to the pathway through the forest. He led them into the forest and they moved swiftly. As they went deeper into the forest, less light penetrated the branches. It was getting cold and dark so they had decided to rest for the night, while one person would stand guard. Any sign of movement he would wake us all up. Hatew quickly fell asleep on the cold, damp ground staring at the full moon.

Hatew opened his eyes to find him self in darkness. He felt the hard, cold, concrete ground that he was laying on. He whispered out loud “Mother? Hello?”

A hoarse voice answered back “Who is it?”

“I am H-hat-ew f-f-from the D-d-am-moto F-f-forest. Whe-r-r-e am I and who are you?” answered Hatew shivering violently.

“You are in the dungeon of Garsfone the king of these parts and I am Sertam a prisoner of this dungeon for 13 years”

“13 years!” Hatew exclaimed

“Shhhhhhh. Keep your voice down. You must not wake the guards they will hit you.”

Story 2

“Get out!” yelled mother as I was sitting in my room. I was suddenly was engulfed in smoke. I found my way to the window and jumped, but as quickly as I landed I blacked out. “Am I dead?’ I asked in myself. The minutes felt like hours until I could finally open my eyes. I glanced back at my house it was still burning, but I did not take a moment to watch. I ran all the way to the farm market near me. My lungs were about to burst when I arrived at my destination. There I saw exactly who I needed to speak to.

I approached the fireman at almost a sprint. “Come quickly! My house in on fire!” I bellowed, yet he just stood there, staring at what seemed to be a squashed pumpkin. I screamed my lungs out, but he would not budge. He continued to stare. I looked back at my house and my eyes saw something very strange. So strange I did not believe it at first, but at second glance I knew it was true.

The house was a still picture, but not only the house, the whole town, maybe even world. “My eyes must deceive me. This is only a dream. There is no such way to stop time, everyone knows that.” I said myself, trying to calm myself down. Although I was trying to trick myself into thinking it was all a dream, I knew deep in my mind that it was not fantasy. As I walked back, I thought of ways that this might happen the next idea more bizarre than the previous. Then I suddenly heard a loud noise off in the distance.

It got closer and closer and I ran faster and faster. I knew I couldn’t out run whatever it was, so I hid behind a rock. As the noise approached me, my heart continued to quicken. Then I saw a towering giant with what seemed to be a giant clock on his back. “That must be what’s causing the time stop. I must break this clock” I sat behind the rock for many hours pondering of how I was going to deal with this giant. I settled with using the gun that father had given me last Christmas.

I made my way back to my house and as I entered I saw my mother and father wide mouthed. I dragged them outside and laid them on the mossy ground. I ran upstairs and fetched the gun. I then went outside and waited for the giant to come. As I heard it coming I took aim. It came into view and I waited for the precise moment. I fired and I heard a crack. Shards of glass were raining down upon me and I dared not to move. The giant fell with thud and I saw everything back to normal. And for my house, it was also restored, but I did not tell anyone of my adventure as for it might result in controversy. And this is where I must end this story, for I have a life unlike some.
