Gambia Coat Of Arm

The Shield of Arm is divided into three colours symbolizing the three main virtues of The Gambian people. Blue means Love and loyalty of the people of The Gambia. It also represents the great River upon whose abundance many of the people of The Gambia depend. White indicates the peaceful and law-abiding, nature of tile people of The Gambia and their friendliness to all other people of the world. Green portrays their hope and broadmindedness. It also represents The Gambia's agriculture and natural resources, and her main hope for advancement through their development.

The Arms or -charges consist of an Axe and a Hoe which are native to -The Gambia, and are placed across each other to symbolize the unity of the people. Being amongst the most common and useful implements utilized by the farming community throughout the whole of The Gambia the Axe and the hoe are symbolical of strength and industry based on The Gambia's agriculture. The Gold colour also conveys the sense of how the future prosperity of The Gambia greatly depends upon agriculture.

The Crest is the stately and dignified Palm tree from whose useful products The Gambia hopes to develop a new industry and establish a second cash crop.

The Helmet is that of an esquire and conveys the sense that the Gambia has always been honored by having her administrator raised to the rank of knighthood. Thus the wreath and mantling are proper to accompany the Knight's helmet and being coloured Gold and Blue respectively symbolize the steadfastness and tranquillity the people.

The Gambia is part of the vast Savannah land of Africa and lions being found In this region are proper supporters of her arms. Being stately and dignified animals and often cool and calm they are evocative. of the nature of The Gambian, and as such they are not only adopted to support The Gambia's arms but also to bear them.

The Gambia's motto or national cry is Progress, Peace, Prosperity. That is, The Gambia shall endeavor for Progress in Peace, as to achieve Prosperity for all her people
