May -

Get ready it's been quiet up to now - May is MENTAL!!!

Friday 1st a booking through a local promoter and a first for the bred in that we played at Thistle, Airport, Dyce! In all our years, not a one.  A wedding which went really well, and there were a LOT of laughts - not least of all Pat Sharp - nothing more to say except "lets' re-run the fun !"

Sat 2nd at Ardoe House to help Claire celebrate her 21st Birthday, at the end of the night, whilst packing up, the band decided we should invent a variety of badges aimed at each member being able to "do" something - along the lines of "a pack the trailer badge" a set up the equipment badge" and so on, we are working on our sewing skills in order these badges once made can be suitably attached to our shirts ...!

Fri 8th - Wedding at Maryculter House, a very laid back afair with a very international feel, we had a great night and I pulled off the weirdest and longest Grand March ever to be had in the history of the Bred !!

Monday 11th we were back with Grammar School and the students this time for their prom, a bit of a hitch with the photgraphers pinching all the dancers for photos ! But once they got going it was a brilliant night.  Nearly as good as their folks in March !

Wednesday 13th despite our attempts, we were unable to leave the equipment for a repeat performance this time for the mighty Mackie Academy (I am somewhat biased!) a small crowd of 120 or so, but boy they could move and they were NEVER off the floor. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Saturday 16th and we travelled to Fyvie Castle to the bizarre raquet court, which has a quirky charm to it as a venue, a rotten night of weather, but nothing dampened the spirits of the guests, who galantly worked their way through the evening and there were lots of laughs, it was the kids who have to be mentioned because in fact they were the absolute stars fo the show, up dancing the whole night and a credit to their families present well done goes to Sam and his crew !

We're nearly done with May, which so far although busy has been very enjoyable, we also found out this week, we are definitely on the list for playing the Ceilidh Tent at T in the Park and will be on stage between 7-9pm on Sat 11th as a warm up for the Killers! If you are going, pop along to give us a shout and we'll make sure you get one right back !!! Yay!!! Mon-i-bred-at-T !!  Hopefully Dad will wear his oldest Fart in the Park T-shirt we made him for last year ! I'm also chuffed to say my Mum's coming along for the day too!! We have nice toilets laid aside for her....!

April -

Happy Easter !!

Sat 4th was aWedding Reception at Stonehaven Town Hall - a really good night with a lot of "kent" faces fae Stoney everyone was up for it, and we had a good laugh.

Fri 10th a fundraiser for Anthony Nolan Trust at Woodend Barn, Banchory.  Was great to have family and friends there supporting the band through a mutual contact and organiser ! Cheers Mum, Dawn & Norman.  Also an amazing discovery that we are now destined to continue - Grant's drum solo can be fuelled by sherbet dib dab's alone...! Grant is for trying to get them to sponsor us !

March -

Sat 14th March we were in Stonehaven Town Hall for a 25th Wedding Anniversary with catering by Robert and co at the Carron - I was so gutted I had to work, but hey some of us have to.

The following Friday saw a blast from the past when we played for the Grammar School PTA in the Grammar School (I used to do my dancing shows there when I was about 6 - and Mike was head boy there many moons ago - he's 40 soon !!) where the adults and teachers proved they could keep up with the kids we usually see in May for their prom and danced their socks off. John also won a voucher for cheese - not because of the way he played, but in the raffle to spend at Mellis'.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ February 09-

A pretty slow month considering how busy we were in January, but on Saturday 21st we were back at Maryculter House to help Richard and Lesley celebrate their marriage, a special one for Fiona & I who had to make sure our bonce's were coiffed to perfection in order the bride would not throw us out being as she is our hairdresser. Richard also surprised her with a pipe band ! Wow!

Saturday 28th heading south this time for a fundraiser  at Newport on Tay we love the silvery Tay chippy there and the folk in the hall are always up for the dancing !

January 2009

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!

Sat 10th Jan saw us travelling north again back to Peterhead for a Hogmany Re-run - a great night with the staff at the Palace as always spot on with their accomodation and service.

Friday 16th - Ledingham Chalmers sure know how to party !  And another first for Galik Bred in the form of an Abba Ceilidh....yeah you read right.  It was fantastic that Benny and Agnetta were able to join us and they were on the dance floor all night!  As for the rest of the crowd, a great night, and you danced your socks off, fantastic.

Saturday 17th - Conoco Phillips, during the Immortal Memory, speech Mr Grant had some competition from the band who were playing downstairs, we were behind the curtains miming through the dances they were doing !!  Really great toast and reply to the lasses, and the dancing - My Word !!!  It was brilliant to get the response we did, just makes it such an enjoyable evening, the dance floor was so full, all night - not sure what downstairs must have thought we were coming to join them at some points !!!!

Friday 30th & Saturday 31st January, we were back on the road - this time for a tour of the north east ! Starting off on my birthday at a Burn's night ceilidh at Buchan Braes, just outside Peterhead, a beautiful hotel, very contemporary and again a great night with some fantastic banter from the crowd.  The Saturday we travelled west and headed for Banff the boys headed for a very windy but sunny Cullen for a round of golf and Faye and I headed for some retail therapy in Inverness (I thought it was closer !)                 Do you have a stick? - an in joke, Faye will be creasing at...!

December 08-

Usually a quieter month - not so many gigs on the go, but we've had a couple.

So far Trinity Hall - Wrights & Coopers members asked us back to the hall to play for their annual Christmas Dinner and Dance and we had a great workout on the stairs getting the equipment in and out of the hall - a very wet and windy night, but the crowd were up for it.

We're back to Meldrum Academy for their annual Seniors Christmas Party and it's always a great night - last year saw a big tumble weed moment though when some of the lads had their white ties pulled up around their foreheads - as you do - and I said over the mic ho ho ho ho a la Kung Fu fighting tune...? You knw the one - the kids all just stared at me rather blankly - yes how the lads in the band laughed - Gosh I felt rather ancient ! hope there's not a repeat performance of that  !

HOGMANY  -

Definitely one to remember - The Palace Hotel in Peterhead had their annual crowd of people who travel up from Tayside area in order to spend 2 nights incuding the 31st in the Bloo Toon !  We had an enjoyable night.

November 08 -

The first weekend saw us out to Pittodrie House Hotel for a fantastic Wedding - the guests were well on their way to a hangover when we arrived and a good time was being had by all - we were late in getting started but when we did we had an excellent night.

Later in November we were back to the Old Mill Inn where the Robbie/Robertson contingent of the band had the night off to see Scotland play rugby against Canada !  The snow caused some problems and that was only getting the trailer out of Newtonhill - thanks to an ex-client Richard hay who interupted his breakfast to push us up the hill, and to Doug for giving me a lift to catch up with Grant who didn't want to staop once he got going !!! It was a tough night for Val who was filling in for Faye and I, but she did her usual sterling job and everyone was up and being taught everything from the Gay Gordons to the Strip the Willow.

Kemnay Academy had their school prom at the Marcliffe Hotel on Tuesday 25th November, and fair to say it was a fantastic night - we had to plead with the kids to sit down so we could have a wee break in between tunes !  They have already re-booked for next year !  Looking forward to it already !

The tail end of November and we were at another new venue for the Bred - Pittodrie Richard donald Suite what a long and narrow hall and the guests tables seemed to go on for miles !  We took great pleasure in helping the MacConnachie's celebrate a large birthday and had a great ime playing match of the day in the Virginia Reel set - it took Dad a wee while to twig but his face was a picture when he realised !

October 08 -

Our next do was Friday 10th when our caller - Faye married Michael at Maryculter House Hotel, all the band were there and we had a brilliant day - dancing to Referendum who kept us on the floor all night.  When can we do that again?

The following night and not too hung-over (speaking for myself of course) Faye was swanning off on honeymoon and my Dad had taken the night off to recover  from his last father-of-the-bride speech. We were back to Maryculter for a Wedding.  It was a great night with the crowd well oiled from the beginning - especially the mother-of-the-bride ! Ali spent a considerable time dancing with the man who was made of balloons...! They made a lovely couple !

The following weekend and the staff at Maryculter are calling us by our first names - we're back for another Wedding - a fantastic night with a few choice dancefloor grooves going on!  It was like a Strictly danceoff !!!

The end of October and we are in Ellon for Wear It Pink - Faye was back to it after sunning herself in Tunisia.  the Saturday saw us heading south to Dunfermline on a VERY wet and windy day to play a party in Aberdour for Mr & Mrs Fowell.  We thoroughly enjoyed our night away and the party was a great success (we even watched Halloween when we got back to the hotel) Spooky !

Speaking of Halloween we had a fabulous night at The Scary Ceilidh in aid of Prince's Trust at Brittania Hotel, Bucksburn.  Grant (drummerboy) Robbie organised the whole thing and I decorated the hall - I love those cobweb things !!!  It was quality not quanitity but the floor was full all night and we had a great time - some fab costumes - some were just WRONG !!! Thanks if you attended and supported us.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

September 08 -

Things were slow to start in September, mainly due to someone's up and coming Wedding and so there were Hen and Stag nights to be had which as an alternative to gigging weren't that bad !!

Friday 26th saw a new venue for Galik Bred at the Milton of Crathes - small tent for about 200 people ! A great night.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

August 08 -

Started off with 2 Weddings, 1 at Meldrum House Hotel and another where we travelled to Beauly again - different venue though.

The following weekend and we are on the road again - Haddo House the venue for another Wedding - great night with some top class hecklers in the crowd - you know who you are (think 2 were a father and son duet !! - we love a heckle)  Also has to be said - that stage is huge - had to strain to see the guitars from where the accordions were sitting !

That Sunday saw us back once more at Duthie Park in the Winter Gardens entertaining the hordes of people who'd come in to shelter from the August downpour which had lasted for about 3 weeks ! A family afair with almost all the croutons showing up to take part whether it be shaking chiccachiccas or tambourines they were doing it !

The next weekend we are in full Wedding mode with a cracking night on the Friday at Elphinstone Hall followed by Norwood Hall where the guests were very up for a bit of dancing even though a number of them had NEVER attempted ceilidh !

We rounded off August with a well deserved weekend off.
