Summer here at VMKaddict has been a blast so far, but why don't we step it up a notch and bring back a type of contest we haven't seen in a while? What do you mean, you're probably asking. How about a Story and Poetry contest, held at the same time by the same people. Wouldn't that be so cool? Well guess what! You're looking at that contest right now!
If you're thinking this is going to be just like school work, you're kidding yourself. Why would a contest be that difficult? All we want from you is a great story or poem, something star worthy.
What's in it for you? How about an awesome new badge and some shiny board points? Does that get you interested?
Now, every contest has rules, of course. So let's lay them down now. There are two categories of entry, so listen up to both and decide which one you want to enter!
*You may only enter one piece of writing, whether it be a poem or a story
**Staff members that are not involved in judging are allowed to enter this contest!
Stories
Theme: Summer Adventure/Mystery
Length: 100-1000 words
Rules:
Keep it G rated! All board rules still apply!
Keep your story to the theme, or else you will automatically be disqualified.
Stay within the word count. Tiger knows how to count.
Try to be as grammatically accurate as possible and spell correctly.
Have fun!
Poems
Theme: Tropical Island (anything you would find on a tropical island or around it)
Length: 3-20 lines
Rules
Keep it G rated! All board rules still apply!
Keep your poem tot eh theme, or else you will automatically be disqualified.
Stay within the line count, and just go with the flow.
Keep your spelling clean!
Have fun!
Prizes
Here are the prizes for the contest! (made by the wonderful Believe! thank you very much!)
First Place: 1500 board points, a feature on the front page of this site, and a badge for VMKaddict.com
Second Place: 1000 board points, and a mention on the front page of this site, as well as a badge.
Third Place: 500 board points and a badge.
Honorable Mention*: 250 board points and a badge.
Participation: Everybody who enters this contest gets one, including the winners!

How We're Determining The Winners
There will be two stages of judging in this contest. One will be performed by the judges, giving your piece of writing a score from 1-10, ten being the best. You will get a 1-10 score from each of three judges. The other will be by your fellow Addicts, voting on the best piece of literature. The two different types of judging will be going on at the same time.
Judges
The judges will each give your piece of writing a score from 1-10, 1 being the worst and 10 being the best. They will add their scores up for your piece of writing to have a maximum of 30 points for this round of judging.
Your writing will be judged on:
How it flows
If it is an actual story/poem
How well it stayed on topic
How many errors in grammar and spelling there are (spellcheck is your friend)
How well you kept to the rules
How you appease the judges' tastes in writing
Voting
Depend on your fellow Addicts for your rise to the top! Your score from the judges will be added to the score from the voting at the end of the contest. The piece of writing with the highest added score will win the contest!
