Hi and thanks for dropping by. My name is Jon Wheeler and I am an Amateur Radio enthusiast based in the town of Melksham, Wiltshire in Southern England. My Callsign is G0IUE and I've been licensed since Feb 1984 (callsign G1DYG) and latterly having passed the Morse Test became G0IUE on December the 24th 1987. I am 39 years old, married to Helen and have two lovely children. Here's a picture of us at Christmas in 2005 ......

We also have a Golden Retriever, a Guinea pig and some Goldfish. If you want to see Casper our Dog - Click here
I am a member of the Wessex Repeater Group and we maintain 3 Amateur radio voice repeaters (GB3WA, GB3WX, GB3YS) and also a 4m beacon on 70.007Mhz based a Yeovil in Somerset.
Here's a picture of my father Ron G1LJT experimenting with a 70cm 88 element Yagi. He likes big antennas. Over to you Dad ..............

And here's a picture of my antennas, taken in May 2006. Note the 28 Mhz (3 element monobander), this has proved to be one of the best antenna investments I've ever made. My word it packs a punch on 10 meters. Some antennas have changed a bit since this image was taken but you'll get a feel for the Severn Road 'experience' with these beauties ........ ! Ron LJT keeps encouraging me to put up as many antennas as I can so naturally I have to do my bit for the hobby - cheers SR.

Did some antenna changes this morning and removed the 2m centre fed dipole and moved the 40m rotary dipole below the 3 element 10m beam. I now have rotary dipoles up for 40, 20 and 17m, 3 ele on 28Mhz and a 6/2/70 tribander on the main mast. At least my winch is a bit happier now --- hi hi. Also removed two lengths of feeder which helped reduce weight.
Other antennas in the garden are an IMAX-99 VERTICAL for 17 thru to 10m, a Sirio CX-468 for 70Mhz, a 10m V antenna and a Doublet for 80, 60 (5Mhz) and 40m.

My station comprises of various pieces of equipment including items from Icom, Yaesu, and Kenwood. Also Radioshack and Albrecht have made their presence too. My favourite Ham band is 10m and I actively monitor 29.600 Mhz FM.

Wishing you all a very happy New Year for 2007 and lets hope for some great DX on the HF Bands. If all else fails there's always Echolink and CQ100 to fall back on.
5 MHZ
I also hold a 5Mhz N.O.V which was issued to me from Ofcom in August 2006. So far I've made just a single contact but hope to experiment further in due course. On 5Mhz I use an Icom IC-718 (TX modded by Rob, G3TFM) in to a 90 foot doublet. You get a glimpse of the doublet in the above photo.
As you have probably gathered I'm also a keen football fan and have always supported Liverpool Football Club and play 5 a side at the Springfield Centre in Corsham every Friday between 5.30 and 6.30pm. Why not Click Here and go to my Friday Night Football site or even here for my golden oldie Friday Night web site - it goes back years and years !!!
The 'Radio Shack'
A messy looking shack I know but here's some pictures taken in August 2006. Funny looking Ham Operating on the mic !!

Thanks to Kevin Romang G4SKN for his help in getting me on FREEWEBS.

Wow how time flys by - it's been sometime since I updated the site. Anyway, haven't been operating too much of late but when I have there has been some good Sp-E on 28 Mhz and I've enjoyed hearing the band 'open again'. Dont forget this month heralds the return of the Newbury Boot Sale on Sun 17 June and also the West Rally on the last Sunday of the month. Why not go along and may be pick up a bargain.

Plenty of free parking and loads to see.
September 8th 9.00pm Update
Well it was a great one. Kev and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at this Showpiece event. The weather was superb and we even stopped for Ice-Creams in Brinklow on our return trip. Sorry no photos of Kev's Rum and Raisin cornet or my Mint Flake 99 but we do have some super photos - and what's that Kev is buying ????Dont tell Karen but it's an FT817ND - Nice one Kev !!
Also we are able to report that transmissions were heard on 27.185 Mhz AM. We can't confirm their whereabouts but Kevin thinks it may have been eminating from 'on site'. Yellow Van's (like those at Red Max's) commeth I think not . Entertaining all the same.
