Blackpool Trams - From The Inside

Volume 3  -   The Body Shop & the Paint Shop

The third DVD ventures into the Body and Paint Shops at Rigby Road works.  Balloon Car 712 is shunted into the Body shop by the new Unimog for panel repairs.  Once inside, we see how the Body Shop is divided for the repair of Buses and Trams, and being worked on is HMS Blackpool and Balloon 724 during refurbishment, and a series of clips showing the refurbishment of Balloon 713 including the fitting of the staircases and some wiring work.

A section follows next showing the recent work undertaken on Balloon 717, being restored to near original condition.

A wide variety of trams are shown next, including Railcoach 680 receiving body attention and re-panelling, Coronation 660 is treated to a refurbishment including body and panel work showing the steel construction of the car, and we take a look at its trucks from insdie the saloon.  Next, we see Brush 623, Towing car 675, Trawler 633 and Brush 636 all receiving varying degrees of body  and underframe attention.  HMS Blackpool 736 comes in for internal fitting out, and Balloon 724 receives minor completion work after a visit to the Paint Shop

The Final segment from the Body shop shows panel repairs to a Bus

Moving over the the Paint Shop, we initially see a selection of Trams stores in the Depot awaiting space for painting.  A lot of work is undertaken in the preparation of a tram, including rubbing down, cleaning, sanding and filling.  Trams such as Balloons 703 and 724 are shown, as well as HMS Blackpool, with masking, primers, undercoat and top coats being applied.  Following this, we see Balloon 700 in its wartime livery, Balloon 703 in its 1980's livery, Brush 636 being painted into Line 14 Metro livery, and finally the application of  crests, legal lettering, logos and other 'fiddly bits'

A Finale is a look at items being prepared for the Western Train during its on-going restoration, and some of the old advertising boards for Circular and Illumination Tours, now something of a collectors item!
