CRIME
Rio is like any major city that you might travel in so the normal precautions about not walking in dark areas alone at night and not flashing laptops/cameras/watches/jewelry all apply. A few additional notes of caution:
- We'll be a few minutes walking from the Copacabana beach, so I'm sure you'll be tempted to visit. When going to the beach, you shouldn't go alone, you shouldn't bring anything of value with you, and you shouldn't go there at night. We'll try to organize daytime group trips instead.
- Don't carry all your money/credit cards with you. Just take what you might need for the day and leave the rest in your hotel safe.
TIME
Rio is GMT - 2 hours; At 6 pm in Brazil, it is...
12 pm in San Francisco
3 pm in New York
8 pm in London
9 pm in Paris
7 am the next day in Sydney, Australia
9 am the next day in Wellington, NZ
ELECTRICITY
Electricity in Brazil runs at 110V and 220V. Electricity in the US runs at 120V and across much of Europe at 220V, so adaptors are probably not a bad idea all around.
WEATHER
Weather in Brazil promises to be near 80F/26C during the days and near 70F/21C at nights. It will be humid and showers are possible.
