Robots

Remember the movie iRobot? We'll in my belief, that will be what happens to the world and just like right now we are facing the threat of terrorism, I believe that we will soon be fighting that possibility too although I believe that one person or a group of people will hack onto the robots computers and change the way they think instead of a malfunction.

If that were not to happen it would be a glorious day. On top of the smart houses we already own which are basically robots in my opinion, we will have machines that move, think, and feel the way humans do. Yes I said right, robots are being developed as if they were human beings. They will be able to learn as well and be able to conduct accordingly in different situations. When they are new, they will literally be your baby and you have to teach them new things about being human. Robots like this will start to be available in the year 2050 although this is just an estimate. I have no clue as to what they are going to cost, but I believe they will be like hiring a nanny or maid, at least at first.

Now the question that comes into my mind is, how do we treat these robots and what laws do we impose on them as they will be acting like humans. Do we have the right to kill them and not be punished? Do they have the right to kill us in self-defense? Those two questions will definitely be key before letting these robots be sold into the consumer hands.

If robots were to be sold into our world, they would mainly be sold as a companion to us and help us around the house. But depending on market changes and demand, they would be hired for work in the trade or service industry. They would start taking over the lower paying jobs that are more serious and have more life-threatening risks. Companies that hire these robots benefit in many ways. First off, they can't pay them. Second, they are more reliable and always do the same job with no mistakes unless it shuts down. With this all in mind, why wouldn't companies hire robots instead of human beings. They save extraordinary amounts of money and they do a better job. Governments would then also have to put laws in place to limit the amount of robots used for work in one single company, maybe a percentage.Would robot manufacturing companies start hiring there own robots to build other robots? Wouldn't it be weird to work with a robot beside how and what would you talk about? Sorry for so many of the questions, but to me, there are.

I ask so many questions because robots are going to be just like us, but they won't experience the same feelings we have with family because they have none. Even so, they are much like us and we've been asking so many questions about ourselves and trying to solve the many mysteries of our bodies. Once it's all said and done, there will be no more questions to ask as, we will have created the robot and to do that, we would've had to fully understand it.

Some applications we can use robots is the service industry and the manufacturing industry. These industries have many low paying jobs that need filling as nobody really wants to do it. These can be perfect fits for robots because they don't have bad days, they always remember orders and so the overall experience in a restaurant will be better. Over time though, robots will develop some personalities and begin to be friendly and tell jokes. That was the for the service industry. For the manufacturing industry, robots are already taking over some jobs and there are good reasons. They never make mistakes so there will be no errors unless the human makes a mistake in the design and technical process, all the robot does is execute those plans, so basically it eliminates another part of the process that can go wrong. Also they are cheap, especially the salaries are phenomenally low.

In the consumer industry they can be a great help, especially to the mentally disabled, seniors, and injured. They can be a huge asset and not take many jobs over because not many people are in it in the first place and it isn't a high-paying job. They are already seeping into the consumer world with Roomba selling many versions of its robot clean up crew including a vacumn, mop, and heavy duty vacumn, as well as another company selling an expensive robot lawn mower. Obviously there are still going to be humans in each of these fields and industries because a robot can never replace a human being fully although they provide much needed help and security.

Now is the time to ask, do we want these living side by side with us? So many bad things can come up from this like over use, over abuse, lost jobs and the gray area of it all. But, so many good things can come from it like saving human lives from not giving them a life threatening job, money can be saved, the economy will gain because of the productivity gains. It will be up to the world in a decade or so to either support this technology or fight against it.
