FULTON COUNTY
HORSE & PONY 4-H CLUB
Leader: Darla Greer 574-653-2848
The Horse & Pony Club is a great way for kids to show off their horse or pony. While having fun hanging out at the barn, making new friends and maybe having a water fight or two (SSSHHHHH!!), the members learn about horses in every way from grooming to nutrition. Don't have your own horse or pony? You may join with a leased horse or pony just the same. Click HERE to see how much fun it can be!
To enroll in the Horse & Pony 4-H Club, members must be in 3rd grade or higher, in the same year of the fair (must be in 3rd grade during the 2007-2008 school year to be eligible for the 2008 4-H fair). Members in grades 1st & 2nd are eligible for Exploring 4-H. Exploring members are only able to handle animals with an adult assisting. For more information about Exploring 4-H, in Horse & Pony, please click HERE or click on the Exploring 4-H button below.
The Horse & Pony Club meets the second Tuesday of each month, at 6:45 p.m., starting January 08, 2008 and continues until fair time (July). To show during the Fulton County Fair, each member is required to attend 3 meetings, present a demonstration (more details at the meeting), be enrolled before May 1st and attend atleast 2 workshops. To complete their Horse & Pony project, each member MUST show their own horse/pony in a halter class, during fair week and complete their record sheets.
It is recommended, but not required, each member participate in the Horse & Pony Club fundraisers, clean-ups and work in the concessions during the open pleasure & halter show that our club hosts. Clean-ups involve picking up trash after shows. Clean-ups are held on the first Monday after each show. Parents are welcome too. To plan for clean-ups, please see SHOWS for scheduled events.
Extracurricular activites are an option for each member to gain more knowledge about horses. Some of those include Judging, Groom & Clean, Horse Bowl and Hippology. Members work together as teams and/or on an individual basis. See ACTIVITIES for more information.
If you are considering joining the Fulton County 4-H Horse & Pony Club, please attend a meeting held on the second Tuesday of each month (before May) or contact the club leader, Darla Greer, at 574-653-2848.
