Founded over 38 years
The society was formed in February 1968 with the first monthly meeting being held on the 17th of that month. The meeting was held at the premises of Mrs J. M. Courtice of the suburb Deakin here in the ACT. A constitution was agreed on and membership fees were decided at $1.00 per annum. During the following years the society members have strived to promote the growing of these beautiful flowers, geraniums and fuchsias. Monthly meetings and "get togethers", plant workshops, open garden visits, flower shows, road trips have all been part of our yearly calendar. Many wonderful friendships have been created during our societies operation. The final meeting for the year includes our annual Christmas party.
Specialist Growers
The Society proudly boasts of our specialist growers who donate their time and experience in educating new and existing members in the successful growing of all their plants. This has created hundreds of "show quality" species for our popular flower shows where they are displayed or made available to the public for purchase. The flower shows have regularly sold out of plants even though more and more have been supplied each year.
Workshops are popular where members provide information and practical advice on plant maintenance, striking from cuttings, disease control, etc. These are held at members private addresses during the year.
The Web Site
This site will not set out to identify fuchsias/geraniums or display numerous photos of differing varieties. This is suitably provided by dozens of garden web sites around the world. The Trading Table
The trading table started at our meetings a few months ago for the benefit of all our members.
For sale are - 3 sizes of pots, Perlite, Soil for cuttings, Fuchsia booklets, Society Badges, Society Spoons, and many more small items.
