InuYasha Bishies:Sesshomaru, Inuyasha, and Kouga
|
Sesshomaru
Other Spellings: Sesshoumaru, Sessho-maru Race: Inu Youkai (Dog Demon) Age: Over 900 years though he looks like he's in his early twenties Hair: Silver, appears white Eyes: Golden Amber Status: Inuyasha's older half brother, Inu Taiyoukai (Dog Demon Lord) of the Western Lands
Sesshomaru is Inuyasha'a older brother. He appears to be very cold and emotionless. Emotions are difficult for him, but his own journey will have very special plans for him. He, too, possesses a sword given by his late father: this one forged from the right fang. It's known as Tenseiga, and there is an odd twist to it. Whereas Inuyasha's Tetsusaiga can slay 100 demons in a single swing, Tenseiga's stroke can save 100 souls. It is a sword of life rather than death, and the cold Sesshomaru finds the sword to be quite worthless. But Tenseiga sticks diligently to its destiny of saving lives. Once Inuyasha managed to discover the secret to Tetsusaiga's power, a stroke from the sword almost killed Sesshomaru, but Tenseiga stepped in and spirited Sesshomaru away. The truth is that the unique swords are a twist of fate designed by his and Inuyasha's father to ensure that neither brother can overcome the other. For a while, Sesshomaru couldn't make a weapon that could overcome Tetsusaiga, but then again, with Tenseiga in his possession, not even Tetsusaiga can strike him down. Tenseiga, however, will play a role in Sesshomaru's personal journey, as he learns the truth about its powers of life. In the meantime, Sesshomaru finds another way to challenge Inuyasha. Learning of the fallen demon Goshinki, who had managed to bite Tetsusaiga in two, he consults a twisted disciple of Toutousai named Kaijinbou, who takes a fang from the fallen demon and forges a new sword: Toukijin. Despite all the evil embodied in that sword, Sesshomaru is able to overcome it and master the sword, finally gaining the chance to face his brother on equal terms.
English Voice Actor: David Kaye who also provides the voices for Treize Khushrenada (Mobile Suit Gundam Wing) and Soichiro Otanashi (Maison Ikkoku)
Inuyasha
Other Spellings: InuYasha, Inu Yasha, Inu-Yasha Race: Inu Hanyou (Half Human, Half Dog Demon) Age: 17 years old, minus all those years he was 'dead' Hair: Silver-Normal State, Black-Human State Eyes: Gold-Normal, Violet-Human Height: about 5'9" Weight: 143.6 lbs. Status: Attempting to become a full demon
Inuyasha is the main character along with Kagome, and is the namesake of the series. He is one of two sons of the Lord Inuyoukai. Inuyasha is a demi-youkai, meaning he is half-demon and half-human. His brother, on the other hand, is full youkai and dispises his brother for being a half-breed. Because of his bloodline, Inuyasha inherited the powers of a demon and some of his fathers characteristics, including his eyes, fangs, claws, dog ears, and hair. He also has the ability to heal incredibly fast in his demon state. He is as strong as most full-youkai, but he does have weaknesses due to his human heritage. On the night of a new moon, his demon powers vanish and he becomes human. Fifty years ago, Inuyasha was in love with the pristess Kikyou who was the gaurdian of the Shikon Jewel [Shikon no Tama]. An evil demon known as Naraku turned them against each other, and Kikyou pined Inuyasha to a tree with a sacred arrow. She died then after. In his quest for the Shikon Jewel, Inuyasha meets Shippo, Miroku, and Sango. Everyone but Kagome and Shippo has reason to hate Naraku.
English Voice Actor: Richard Cox who also provided the voices for Ranma Saotome (Ranma 1/2), Kai Shiden (Mobile Suit Gundam), and Tolle Koenig (Mobile Suit Gundam Seed)
Kouga
Race: Wolf Demon Age: 18 Hair: Black Eyes: Light blue Height: around 6'0'' (He's taller than Sesshy though *GASP*)
Kouga is the leader of the Wolf Clan. He has super speed due to the Shikon Jewel shards he has in his legs. Kouga fell in love with Kagome, and always quarrels with InuYasha because of this. Kouga was originally a bad guy. His wolves (not Ginta and Hakkaku) killed Rin (before Sesshoumaru restored her). Because of his love of Kagome, who is a human, he turned into a good demon, and helps InuYasha and his group in their quest for Naraku. He got accidentally engaged to Ayame, a wolf demon from the mountains, when he saved her as a child and promised her marriage to keep up her spirits. Ayame is now grown and is holding Kouga to his promise.
Voice Actor: Scott McNeil who also provided the voices for Mwa La Fllaga (Mobile Suit Gundam Seed), Mr. Yoshi (Hamtaro! *breaks out singing the Hamtaro theme song*), King Aston and Jajuka (Escaflowne), Duo Maxwell (Mobile Suit Gundam Wing), and Kocho Kuno (Ranma 1/2) |

Yu Yu Hakusho Bishies: Hiei, Youko, and Kuronue
|
Hiei
Race: half fire demon, half ice demon (koorime) Age: Unknown but looks between the ages of 15 and 18 Hair: Black with a white starburst Eyes:Crimson Height: 4'10" Status: Jagansi (those with a third eye)
Hiei is the offspring of a mating between a Koorime (Hina) and an unknown fire demon. Hina is born a Koorime, a race of self-reproductive ice demons who are all female. She fell in love with a fire demon and bore his son. However, this kind of action is considered a crime in the Island of the Koorimes, which floats above the Makai. Thus, he was given the title, "The Forbidden Child", and as an infant was thrown overboard by Rui, Hina's best friend. Before she did, however, she told the infant that if he must, he should come back and take revenge upon the Koorimes. Hina shed two tears which turned into gems, one for Hiei and one for his sister, Yukina, who is full fledged Koorime. Then he was thrown off. A band of thieves picked up Hiei in the forests of the Makai and took him in as one of their own. He learned survival skills, thievery and such. As he grew more and more powerful, the thieves finally left him, perhaps out of fear, for at the age of five he was an A class demon. He carries his katana (sword) everywhere as means of weaponry. His only pursuit was strength and his long lost sister, Yukina. He also looks for his tear gem, which he lost during a fight when the chain was broken, causing it to fall into a rushing river.
When he learned that Yukina had left the island (which was destructing) to search for him, he went to a demon named Shigure. He told Shigure his story and asked for a 'jagan,' a third eye to be implanted. Shigure did just that, and Hiei's power sunk, making him no longer an A class demon. Hiei gained back his power when he learned the jagan's techniques, such as the Kokuryuha (the Black Dragon Wave) and what we call Majin Hiei, which is his transformation process where his skin turns green and numerous eyes appear all over his body. Shigure's price was Hiei's tear gem, and after Hiei finds Yukina, he must not tell her that he is her brother, also. He may have wanted to protect her from the truth of what he really is, anyway.
Hiei returned to the Island of the Koorimes, where he found Rui by Hina's grave. She told him Yukina had left to find him. She said he could kill her because Hina had committed suicide due to the loss of her son. Hiei didn't do a thing, but disappeared.
Hiei was not able to find Yukina in the Makai, so he left for the Nigenkai (Human World). There he met a boy named Kurama. Kurama was walking with a girl named Maya, who confessed to Kurama that she loved him dearly. Hiei attacked Kurama, thinking he was the demon who stole his tear gem or a spy of a demon Hiei was hunting. Hiei was injured during the fight, and Kurama took him home and nursed him. Kurama asked for his name, and reluctantly he replied. Then he left to continue on his missions.
A year or two later, they met again when Hiei asked Kurama to steal three Reikai artifacts with another demon named Gouki. Hiei stole the Shadow Sword, which can turn a person into a mindless demon if cut with it. Hiei tried this with Keiko, someone Yusuke cares deeply for, in an attempt to get the other two artifacts, the Orb of Baast and the Forlorn Hope. In the handle of the sword is the antidote to it's power, which cured Keiko. Gouki was killed by Yusuke, while Hiei and Kurama's punishment was to join Yusuke on his missions. Another human named Kuwabara also joined the team. Hiei had no choice, for if he kills a human, he will be severely punished or suffer death, as killing humans in forbidden by all means in the Reikai (Spirit World).
One of the biggest Yu Yu Hakusho events is the Ankoku Bujutsukai, a tournament on Hanging Neck Island in Ningenkai, where the reward is any wish granted. Hiei's team, the Urameshi team, won. Yusuke wished for Genkai to be resurrected (after Toguro Ototo killed Genkai, he told Koenma to keep her body and resurrect her if Yusuke wins). Soon after, anther tournament arose. This time, it was with the three overlords of the Makai, the three most powerful demons. Their names were Yomi, Raizen, and Mukuro. It turns out Raizen was Yusuke's ancestor, and for survival he needs to feed on humans. Raizen refuses to do it, and soon after his death Yusuke took his place. Kurama joined Yomi, and Hiei became the heir of Mukuro. Before he left the Nigenkai, he was given a tear gem from Yukina. She indirectly called him "brother," and explained that it was because he would probably be what her brother would be like. He strings the gem into a pendant and left for the Makai.
There he met Shigure who challenged him to battle, pitted by Mukuro. The masked Mukuro said that he will reveal his true identity to whoever wins. Shigure said that if Hiei wins, he could tell Yukina who he is. Shigure killed Hiei, but not before Hiei sliced through Shigure's forehead. Hiei had no problem with death, as he already had achieved all he wanted in life. Mukuro wanted to keep Hiei around, so she revived him in a machine. She showed him her identity: a female whose face is half gone and replaced by metal and machinery. Hiei stayed around with Mukuro and whatever happened afterwards is a mystery. Hiei's story is perhaps the saddest one in Yu Yu Hakusho, where his life and soul was constantly challenged by betrayal, angst, and his disturbing past.
Damn Hiei has a long past. Continuing on!
English Voice Actor: Chuck Huber (TV Series) who also provided the voice for Android 17 (DBZ)
Youko
Alias: Shuichi Minamino, Yoko Kurama Race: Fox Demon Age: 300 years (looks 15 though, not really but eh) Hair: Silver Eyes: Hazel/Gold Height: 7'0'' (Somewhere around there)(GASP! He's taller than Sesshy and Kouga!) Status: Thief
A lifetime ago, Kurama was the leader of a group of thieves. His second in command was Yomi, who would later become one of the three most powerful demons [youkai] in Demon World [Makai]. But Yomi was a ruthless and brainless fighter who didn't want to listen to the much smarter Kurama. When Yomi ran his own group of thieves and let many loyal followers die by acting on instinct instead of thoughts, Kurama sent an assassin to kill him. This assassin failed, however, and only ended up blinding him. The assassin would wind up regretting this, as the powerful Yomi tortured him until the day he died.
But then, when he was chased by a Spirit World [Rei-kai] bounty hunter and got injured, Kurama (in his fox form) fled to the Living World [Ningenkai] and his spirit combined with that of the unborn baby of Shiori Minamino. He was later born as Shuichi Minamino. His human mother loved him with all her heart and taught the once so cold hearted Kurama what human love is. Kurama, who actually wanted to return to Demon World [Makai] as soon as he regained his powers, learned how to love and to care and found himself unable to leave his mother. So he stayed to take care of her (he continues to live with his human family today).
Kurama and Hiei met each other when they were in junior high. You may not believe it, but Kurama had short hair! Although Hiei probably will never admit it, they are close friends, know a lot about each other, and even understand each other. When Kurama's mother got sick and could not be treated, he decided to join Hiei and Gouki to steal the three Spirit World [Rei-kai] artifacts to save her life. The item Kurama got was a mirror called the Forlorn Hope, meaning that if the person wanted their wish granted, they would have to give up their lives to accomplish this wish, hence the forlorn part of it.
And so he met Yusuke, who saved his life when he wanted to sacrifice his own life to save his mother's. In the end, the mirror granted Kurama's wish and saved his mother's life. He then surrenders to the Spirit World but is later released to join Yusuke's crew (along with Hiei) during the invasion of the Spirit Beasts, maintaining his human form but going by his real name.
Kurama's power is the ability to control plants, especially Makai plants, and his techniques have a uniquely beautiful but deadly quality to them. He always carries a rose in his hair, his means of creating the deadly Rose Whip. With it, he can invoke attacks like the Rose Whiplash or the Thorn Wheel. He's also known to use a Death Plant that can kill an enemy by growing inside them.
Kurama is a very nice person who smiles a lot, but nobody can tell who and what is behind this smiling face. He is an extremely intelligent person, thinks a few steps ahead of normal people, and will never let others know what's on his mind. Even in the most difficult situations, he manages to stay calm and think about the best solution. However, his time as a human has softened what would otherwise have been a very ruthless demon [youkai]...with a reputation feared even today by the demons [youkai] in Hell.
Kurama occassionally returns to his real form, but is basically trapped in his human body and can only come out with special items like the Idunn Box or with the Fruit of Past Lives. In his real form, Kurama's power of plants increases significantly, and the white clothes of his real form are created of demon substance and they have defensive powers like those of Sensui. Also, he regains his cold bloodedness from before his life in the human world.
In his past, Kurama's closest friend and companion was Kuronue, who died during one of their robberies in Demon World [Makai]. Kurama is still quite upset about his best friend's death, the feeling which the enemies of the second Yu Yu Hakusho movie took advantage of.
Damn, Youko's got a long ass past as well!
English Voice Actor: John Burgmeier who also provided the voices for Shigure Sohma (Fruits Basket!), Smith (Kiddy Grade), and Tein Shinhan (DBZ)
Kuronue
Race: Bat Demon Age: 532 Hair: Black Eyes: Indigo Blue Height: 6'4'' (GASP! He's taller than Sesshy and Kouga too!) Status: Kurama's Partner (Not in that way. I know what you're thinking.)
Kuronue made his appearence in Yu Yu Hakusho: Poltergeist Report. Kuronue always carried a pendant with him. He invaded a palace with Youko Kurama (not Shuichi Minamino), but when the pendant broke during their escape, Kurounue went back to get it and was stabbed in the leg by a bamboo trap. Kurama tried to save him, but Kuronue told him to run away because if Kurama would have stayed to help, they both would have been caught by the guards. Youko Kurama made it to safety, while Kuronue bled to death.
Voice Actor: Eric Stuart who also provided the voices for Seto Kaiba (Yu-Gi-Oh!), Meta Knight (Kirby: Right Back at Ya!), James and Brock (Pokemon), Gourry Gabriev (Slayers Try and Slayers Next! Gotta love that Jellyfish!), and Koenma (Yu Yu Hakusho) |

Rurouni Kenshin: Sanosuke, Kenshin, and Kenji
|
Kenji
Whole Name: Kenji Himura Race: Human Age: 15 years old Hair: Red Eyes: Blue Status: Student of Seijurrio Hiko
Kenji is Kenshin and Kaoru's only son. He went and trained under Hiko to learn the way of Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu. After awhile, Kenji thought is was perfectly okay to kill people. However, Yahiko taught him a thing or two. Yahiko gave him Kenshin's reverse blade sword. Kenji learned a lesson that day to protect people with all of his heart. At the end of Samurai X, he gets together with a girl that looks like Kaoru. It is only assumed he marries her because Kenshin and Kaoru die from an incurable disease.
English Voice Actor: Joey Hood
Sanosuke
Full Name: Sanosuke Sagara Alias: Zanza or Rooster Head (I like his hair, thank you very much) Race: Human Age: 19 (Birthdate: February 1860) Hair: Brown Eyes: Brown Height: 5'10" Weight: 156 lbs.
Sanosuke is a good friend of Kenshin's. They started out as enemies, but after Kenshin defeated him, he followed through with a lecture that reminded Sano of how his idol, Sagara-taichou, used to talk. Sano likes to spend his time gambling and drinking. He also never turns down a fight. He tends to rush into things, which often results in him getting hurt. He also has an incredible stamina, and takes hits a lot more easily than most people. He won't quit until he's practically unconscious. Sano used to be a fighter-for-hire, but now he's just a freeloader. He gets free food at the Kamiya Dojo, so why bother working? He also used to carry a Zanbattou, which is a HUGE sword. This was broken by Kenshin. Now, he uses his fists all the time, and is still a formidable fighter. He's also incredibly fast, which is a result of him using the extremely heavy Zanbattou.
English Voice Actor: Lex Lang who also provided the voices for Suzuki (Ai yori aoshi), Juzo Narumi (Witch Hunter Robin), Crim (.Hack//Sign), Kutou Solder (Fushigi Yugi), Ryousuke Takahashi (Initial D), Kazuma Kuwabara (Yu Yu Hakusho), and Goemon Ishikawa (Lupin III)
Kenshin
Alias: Shinta Himura, Battousai the Manslayer Race: Human Age: 28 (Birthdate: June 20, 1849) Hair: Red Eyes: Lavender Height: 5'2'' Weight: 106 lbs Status: Wanderer
Kenshin is a gentle, polite man who lives at the Kamiya Dojo with Kaoru and Yahiko. He fought during the revolution as "Battousai the Manslayer" but later decided that killing was wrong and became a wanderer. After 10 years, he met Kaoru and started to live at her place.
Kenshin has a peculiar style of speech in which he uses "gozaru," an obsolete form of the verb "to be." He also uses the "samurai" pronoun "sessha," which is supposed to be polite. He also prefers doing the laundry, cooking, and playing with Ayame and Suzume to fighting. However, when he needs to protect someone, he will fight, and well. He uses the Hiten Mitsurugi style, which revolves around predicting an opponent's moves. Pushed too far, however, and Kenshin will revert back to his former self, Battousai. It is easy to tell when this happens. First, his eyes glow amber. Then, his speech changes. He no longer uses the cute "de gozaru" or the polite "sessha," but the more masculine, vulgar "ore" instead.
Many people are after Kenshin, either for revenge or because he's "in the way." Many have tried to force him to become Battousai again, but only a couple of people have actually succeeded.
Kenshin Himura was born a peasant under the name Shinta, with no family name. Kogoro Katsura, the leader of the division he fought in during the Boshin War that gave him the family name of Himura, and Shinta was renamed to Kenshin by Seijuro Hiko after Hiko saved his life and took him as an apprentice. He got the scar on his face from two different sources. The vertical portion he got while in battle, and the horizontal part was made by his betrothed. He was fighting someone, and as he was dealing the death stoke, the girl got in the way. As she was dying in his arms, she picked up her dagger and added the line to make the cross.
English Voice Actor: Richard Hayworth who also provided the voices for Yutaka Kobari (Witch Hunter Robin), Daisuke Saiki (X-2001), Azuma Hijikata (Pilot Candidate), Yosho (Tenchi Forever), Legato Bluesummers (Trigun), and Yusuke Urameshi (Yu Yu Hakusho) |

Fruits Basket Bishies: Kyou, Yuki, and Shigure
|
Kyou
Alias: Kyo-Kyo, Kyo Sohma Race: Human/Cat Age: 17 Hair: Orange Eyes: Reddish-Brown Height: 5'7'' Weight: 123 lbs Status: Cursed
This is the outcast of the family, Kyo Sohma. He doesn't belong to the Chinese Zodiac exactly, as the Rat (Yuki Sohma) tricked him into thinking the banquet for the animals was a different day. In result, Kyo has never been treated like a true member of the Sohmas. It also means he cannot attend the New Years' Banquet, just like in the story.
He lives in Shigure's house along with Yuki, Shigure himself, and Tohru Honda. Yuki is the Rat, Shigure is the Dog, and Tohru Honda really is something. Tohru Honda was living in a tent as so not to burden her friends and family while her grandfather was having renovations to his house done. Yuki Sohma stumbled upon her, and invited her to be their new housekeeper. Kyo and Yuki both took quickly to Tohru, but she had to leave when the house was finished. In the end, they took her back; she wasn't happy at her grandfather's house. Kyo took a liking to her, especially after she accepted his darkest secret.
Since the cat didn't attend the banquet, Kyo must always wear his black and white beads so he doesn't turn into the Cat's Evil Spirit. The Cat's Evil Spirit is what built up after the Cat realized he had been fooled. The Evil Spirit is Kyo's true form, and it is hideous. But Tohru somehow managed to get through to him, after much heartache, though. Kyo has a very bad temper, but when he's around Tohru, he seems to be a little sweeter and more calm.
Voice Actor: Jerry Jewell who also provided the voices for Namu (Dragon Ball), Max (Kiddy Grade), Suzaku (Yu Yu Hakusho), Tony Frost (Blue Gender), and Jimmy Edogawa (Case Closed)
Shigure
Race: Human/Dog Age: 27 Hair: Black Eyes: Brown Height: about 6'2'' Weight: about 176 lbs Status: Novelist/Cursed

Voice Actor: John Burgmeier who also provided the voices for Youko Kurama (Yu Yu Hakusho!), Smith (Kiddy Grade), and Tein Shinhan (DBZ)

Yuki Sohma is part of the cursed Sohma family, and whenever he embraces a person of the opposite gender, he turns into a rat.
English Voice Actor: Eric Vale who also provided the voices for Sinistra (Kiddy Grade), the Tournament Announcer (Dragon Ball), Yuji Kaido (Blue Gender), Trunks (DBZ), and Shorin/Rando/Sakyou (Yu Yu Hakusho) |
