Life on Mission

Perils & Promises, Life On Mission--Book Recap

Perils & Promises is an honest, accurate depiction of life on the mission field.  In this book, readers are allowed a 'birds eye view' into the struggles faced outside of one's comfort zone.  While these obstacles and struggles may be different for each individual, the underlying source of each battle is the same.  Satan is a purposeful being, just like God; However, his purpose is quite the opposite!

Learn how to effectively deal with Satan's tactics and ploys as you discover fresh insight to the Scriptural fact that greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.  This heartwarming story deals specifically with Spiritual battles and burdens we carry in day-to-day life. Through life's most painful and difficult moments, we learn to trust in the surety that God is with us and that He will never leave nor forsake us.

As you journey with the the author on the mission field in the down east area of North Carolina, you will find yourself taken back to a time and era when life was much simpler and much more laid back.  You will also enjoy the humorous prose used to describe the area and the culture shock stories.

About the Author...

At the age of six, Frances was stricken with rheumatic fever.  While in the hospital, a blood clot moved from her heart to her brain and burst; paralyzing her on the left side. Her future looked dim; however, a heart specialist, performed an emergency, experimental procedure to release the fluid from around her heart.

With success, Frances regained full movement.  However, the doctors warned, "We don't know what kind of damage this blood clot has caused.  When she goes back to school, she may be slow to learn or even slightly mentally disabled."

Amazingly, her grades didn't falter.  Assuming all was well, Frances graduated from Monroe High School, but shortly afterwards  begin to experience brief episodes of loss of consiciousness.  The scar became evident and the doctors discovered that Frances was experiencing petit mal seizures resulting from a tiny scar on her right temporal lobe--resulting from what?  Yep, you guessed it!  The rheumatic fever episode years earlier.

Frances lived life in a closet for many years--afraid that someone important would discover her well-kept secret.  Although She surrendered her heart to Jesus when she was fifteen, Frances did not surrender her life to His lordship until her thirties.  What a difference this made!

After carrying this affliction for twenty-four years, an epilepsy specialist stepped onto the scene.  Following a couple of visits with Frances, he sat her down in his office and said, "Having studied your seizure history and where I believe the focal point to be, I think you are prime candidate for brain surgery."

After months of testing, physical, mental and psychological, on June 19th, 1999, Dr. Michael Heafner from Carolina's Neurosurgery and Spine in Charlotte, N.C. performed a right temporal lobectomy (or  removal of the right temporal lobe).

Today, Frances is completely siezure-free, medicine free and has absolutely no physical or mental limitations.  To God be the Glory!
