Frost Heaves Fan Site

A fan site for the Vermont Frost Heaves PBL Basketball team

On The Move

The Vermont Frost Heaves and their arch rivals, the Manchester Millrats, have left the American Basketball Association. They will both play in the year old Premier Basketball League with former ABA teams like the Rochester Razorsharks, Maryland Nighthawks and the Wilmington Sea Dawgs, to name a few. Check out the fan forum for the latest news!

Go, Heaves, Go!

REPEAT!!!!!

The Vermont Frost Heaves have repeated as champions of the ABA! They defeated the San Diego Wildcats 87 to 82 on March 30th in Quebec City! Everyone here and on the fan forum wish to send out our hearty congratulations to every member of the team and to every single fan who made the trip to Quebec City to cheer them on!

Vermont dismantles Express

The Vermont Frost Heaves defeated (a kind word, for sure) the Jersey Express last night in Barre by the score of 129-73. Game was close for the first half of the first quarter then we pulled away and never looked back. Our lead ballooned to 66 at one point. Terrance Green led the Frost Heaves with 21 points while Issa Konare (hello, NBA?) and Antonio Burks (after missing the Manchester game due to illness) had 19 a piece. In all 7 Frost Heaves scored in double figures. The Heaves next game will be in Quebec City against the Kebs on Saturday the 5th at 7:05, NOT at 2:05 as previously published. The Heaves then return home next weekend for back to back games in Burlington. The 12th sees Manchester make their second appearance in Burlington, then on the 13th, the Montreal Royal visit the Memorial.

Vermont upends Boston 149-119

The Heaves defeated the Boston Blizzard 149-119 Saturday afternoon in front of what looked like our first sell out of the season. While we did win by 30, I don’t believe we played great defense, we just tried to out run them. We did set team records for points scored (149) and rebounds (82). Dokun Akingbade led the way in scoring with 24 points and added 14 boards. Issa Konare had 20 points, 13 boards, 2 blocks and 3 steals. Chris Cayole got some quality playing time and scored 19 points. Here’s hoping he sees more time as he was great on Saturday.

Frost Heaves defeat Montreal on the road

Montreal, Quebec, Canada-Center Dokun Akingbade scored 18 points and keyed a third-quarter surge as the Vermont Frost Heaves defeated the Montreal Royal 90-69 at John Abbott College on Friday night.

The Vermont defense held the Royal to eight points in the third quarter, while Antonio Burks added 12 points on the game, Dwuan Rice chipped in 11 points, and Issa Konare added 10. The defending ABA Champions ran their record to 11-2 with the victory.

Tommy Mitchell's 24 points led the Royal, which fell to 3-10.

The Frost Heaves return to Vermont for a 2:05 p.m. date at Burlington's Memorial Auditorium with the Quebec Kebekwa tomorrow afternoon. Ilze Luneau and her Basketball Family will perform their hoops magic at halftime.

While Vermont was defeating Montreal, the Kebs were in Manchester, coming back from an 18-point deficit to defeat the Millrats 112-110.

Greetings, fellow Frost Heaves fans. I am Eric, know also as "The Sweeper" and Heavesrock has allowed me to update the site.

Frost Heaves exterminate Millrats.

Led by Antonio Burks’ 24 points, Vermont defeated Manchester 133-107 last night in Burlington in front of what had to be a disappointing crowd that was announced in the vicinity of 450. Although considering the storm and the rescheduling of the game, it could have been worse. The play, or should I say plays, of the night came courtesy of Chris Cayole who, in mere seconds, was the recipient of two ally oops that brought the remaining fans to their feet.

Our next game is Friday night against the Royal in Montreal, and then right back the Memorial in Burlington for a Saturday afternoon game that will start at 4:05 PM. I will be making the trip to Montreal Friday and will be bringing my video camera. I will try to post the game on the 24th.

Fan Bus To Montreal

This is a message posted on the Frost Heaves Fans forum about a potential fan bus for the season opener in Montreal

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I looked into renting a van so club members and anybody else who might want to ride together could do so. Thrifty has a 12 person van (including the driver) that rents for $109.99 per 24 hour period – if there’s enough interest, I’d be willing to lay out the money and rent it my name (taking on the liability too) as long as I could be made whole by all the riders.

Here’s my best guess on the costs:

Van rental $109.99

Insurance/taxes $40.00 (my best guess for now)

Mileage - 0 –

Gas $50.00

Tolls - 0 –

Total $199.99

Divided 12 ways = $16.66 per person

Obviously the rate per person would be higher for less people but it still seems like a steal.

If people are interested, let me know by the end of the business day, Monday, October 22 as the vans are not always available and I had one penciled in for me. We’d leave Barre around 130 pm and return after the game.

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!

FINAL SCORE IN BARRE, VERMONT 143-TEXAS 85. VERMONT TAKES THE ABA TITLE IN THEIR FIRST SEASON!!!!!.

The Frost Heaves defeated the Texas Tycoons 143 - 95 in the American Basketball Association championship game. The city of Barre and the Frost Heaves will celebrate with a parade and potluck dinner tomorrow night.

The 6 p.m. parade, much like the Frost Heaves' impressive inaugural season, is scheduled to begin and end at the Barre Municipal Auditorium.

Riding on a flatbed truck donated by Bellavance Trucking and in several convertibles from Cody Chevrolet Cadillac the team's players, personnel and sponsors will do a victory lap that will take them through the city's central business district before brining them back to the auditorium for a potluck supper that is open to all.

Fans are encouraged to line the parade route, which will run down Seminary Hill and on to North Main Street before turning left on Elm Street and left again on Summer Street before heading back up Seminary Hill to the auditorium. Fans are asked to wear their favorite Frost Heaves' apparel and bring cow bells if they have them.

All are invited to attend a potluck dinner that will be held on the ground floor of the auditorium immediately following the parade. Those who attend are urged to bring their favorite dishes - preferably in disposable containers.

Several area businesses, including Beverage Baron, Price Chopper, Central Market, Jiffy Mart, Quality Market and M&M Beverage and Redemption Center have donated soda and water for the potluck supper.

Box Score: http://bellinghamslam.com/stats/BELatVT2-8.htm

Attendance was 1,400.

I am looking for someone to write game reports on the games. I would, but I have no writing talent and can't make all the games. If you're interested, email me at jasonvtaz@yahoo.com.

After Saturday's rematch with Bellingham, the next game will feature 7'9 Sun Ming Ming of the Maryland Nighthawks.

Box Score: Coming Soon

Attendance was 600, the smallest crowd of the season. Kudos though to to those 600 who braved the -30 wind chill and came!

The Frost Heaves will be having a squadron of representatives in the upcoming all-star game in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Coach Will Voight will be coaching the east squad, with Aaron Cook as the Frost Heaves player representative. Antonio Burks will participate in the 3-point contest and be an alternate for the main event.

I'm still looking for a box score for these games. I've contacted the Strong Island media director and he said he would send me one, but hasn't yet. I also contacted Cape Cod's GM Ian McCarthy, but am still waiting for a reply. If anyone has one, please let me know in the forum listed on the top of this page. Attendance for the SI game was approx. 150 and I'm not sure what the crowd was like at Cape Cod.
