Aims of The Association
''To interest and inform the people of Rochdale about France and in particular Tourcoing, their twin town''
History
This association was born at a meeting on May 9th 1967, called by the Mayor of the time, Alderman, now Sir Cyril Smith MBE.
Sir Cyril Smith MBE (2006)
His hope was to broaden the link between the two towns, to include any and every Citizen of Rochdale, should they so wish. Also, to complement a similair organisation in Tourcoing, known as Les Amis de Rochdale.
The first Commitee was formed by Mr Peter Scott, then editor of The Rochdale Observer.
In 2006 we celebrated 50 years of twinning and 2007 was the fortieth anniversary of twinning between Rochdale and Tourcoing
This is and always has been a family organisation and children are particularly welcome.

Language
Speaking French comes quite easily if you studied it at school, I was amazed at how much came back so quickly, especially after a few beers.

Shopping Most people by now know how much cheaper shopping in France is. There are always opportunities, in fact we make a point of ensuring that there is time to find the essentials, like wine and beer and all the good things to be had. Places like French Shopping or Auchan |
