History
In April, 2008, The Friends of Tanyard Creek Park, along with the support of the Atlanta Battlefield Association, Ardmore Park Neighborhood Association, Brookwood Alliance, Collier Hills Civic Association, and Collier Hills North reached a compromise with the City of Atlanta Beltline planners on a trail route through Tanyard Creek Park.
Trail Route
The trail will connect with Ardmore Park, route under the CSX trestle along the creek bank of the meadow. A bridge will be constructed midway at the creek rock bank to continue the trail along the west side of the park. This compromised route enables Atlanta Beltline Inc., with community input, to design a trail that is not only attractive, but also least invasive and preserves this historic civil war battlefield and open recreational use of the meadow. Construction is estimated to begin over the next month.
Trail Construction
Construction of the trail will be managed by the PATH Foundation. Status updates construction timeline/milestones will be posted as as provided by the PATH Foundation.
7/20/09 - weekly update on the progress to construct the Tanyard Park trail from Ardmore Park to Dellwood at Golfview Drive:
- ABI and CSX have agreed on a plan to finalize and expedite the paperwork associated with the trestle canopy. CSX will review the engineering and coordinate any comments with PATH engineers before this project is released for construction.
- The City has requested GDOT award the trail project to the lowest responsive bidder. The centerline of the trail was marked last week. PATH and the City arborist are coordinating any shifts/narrowing of the trail to reduce impact to nearby trees based on the trail centerline location. The walkthrough is scheduled for Tuesday July 28th at a time to be approved by the neighborhood reps.
- American Golf and the City appear to be resolving issues associated with golf course alterations to accommodate the trail. The work on Bobby Jones Golf Course will begin when these issues are resolved.
7/13/09 - weekly update on the progress to construct the Tanyard Park trail from Ardmore Park to Dellwood at Golfview Drive:
- ABI representatives met with CSX last week to discuss BeltLine issues, including the latest request from CSX to review the engineering at the CSX trestle between Ardmore Park and Tanyard Park. ABI and CSX have agreed on a plan to finalize and expedite the paperwork associated with the trestle canopy.
- The bids for trail construction were received Thursday 7/09. Bid data is being reviewed by PATH and City Procurement before being shipped to GDOT. Subsequent to the review, the City will ask GDOT to award the contract to the lowest responsive bidder. The neighborhood will be contacted this week to schedule a walkthrough sometime next week.
- American Golf and the City continue to iron out the details associated with golf course alterations to accommodate the trail.
7/08/09 - Weekly Update on the progress to construct the Tanyard Park trail from Ardmore Park to Dellwood at Golfview Drive:
- CSX has requested their engineer review the proposed canopy under the trestle. ABI must execute an agreement with CSX to facilitate this review. CSX will likely close on the easement with ABI when the review is completed.
- The bids for trail construction are due this week. We should have a contractor on board shortly thereafter. This will trigger erection of the tree fencing and a walkthrough with interested parties.
- American Golf and the City are finalizing an agreement to allow for golf course alterations to accommodate the trail.
- In mid-June ABI forwarded to CSX an already executed agreement--at that time they indicated they expected to complete their review and final signoff by or before July 10th.
