The ONLY Voice of DEMAND & DISSENT for the Horse in the Equine Industry
"Demanding an End to Equine Slaughter, and Dissenting Until it Ends."
The "Friends of Equines Society (FOES) of Equine Slaughter," was founded for the hundreds of thousands of people across this country and around the world who love equines and are working hard to end their slaughter. This site is dedicated to all those kind-hearted compassionate caring people who love the horses and are fighting for an end to horse slaughter through the judicial & legislative processes. We have all worked hard over these years contacting our political representatives and gathering support for our bills "on the hill." We have been burning out our fax machines & frazzling our telephone lines with incessant anti-slaughter calls & pleas to our representatives in Washington, DC, and we have emailed our fingers to the bone. Some of us stay in constant touch with our representatives throughout the year(s) to keep them informed (and interested) in the latest news and developments in the anti-horse slaughter movement. Some of us even travel to Washington, DC to lobby on special days to have our voices heard. Thanks to all of our concerted efforts, we have had much success in gaining support for our bills, not only in DC but all across the nation. Polls consistantly show that the majority of the American people are against horse slaughter and would vote right now to see it end. We have many politicians in Washington also that promice to support our legislative efforts, and their numbers continue to grow thanks to everyones collective efforts. We have come so close many times,......but we get thawarted each & every time by a few "pirate" politicians who are Bought & Paid For by the small but wealthy and influencially powerful pro-slaughter camp. As evidenced by the latest news regarding "the death" of HR 6598,...these paid-off pro-slaughter "pirate" politicians are still at it and continue to block, stall, knock-out, snuff or otherwise kill our bill(s) at every turn. As most anyone knows these days, it is not about "the will of the people" in Washington politics anymore. Its about the almighty buck and who pays the most for influence, and that isnt likely to change anytime soon. Meanwhile, our American horses continue to go to slaughter by the hundreds each day and America remains the worlds #1 exporter of horses for human consumption. They are building new equine slaughter houses all over Canada & Mexico and we are their biggest suppliers. Some states right here in our own country are "toying" with the idea of re-opening those houses-of-horror in the USA again! Oh yes "Friends," the Powers-That-Be (PTB) are beginning to realize what a lucrative market the international horsemeat trade can be. It is important to remember the US beef exports and sales are still down cause of that "little" MadCow / BSE thing still being around,....just ask the USDA or read for yourself in the link below;

Friends of Equines is Tired of Waiting on the legislative process, and we are quite convinced after the successes we have experienced and the support we have found from the public in our industry accountabilty campaigns thus far this year, that there is NO NEED to wait on any bill. We think "the equine industry" can end horse slaughter on their own, if only WE could compel them to take the initative. So was born our INDUSTRY ACCOUNTABILITY CAMPAIGN,....realizing after all, its true. We dont need a law enacted to be able to tell the industry what is the right thing to do, or to lead them in the right direction, or TO ASSIST them and WORK with them side-by-side in coming up with real solutions to their "unwanted horses" problem, solutions that DO NOT involve slaughter. What it all boils down to is getting them to cut loose with some cash (and we dont mean peanuts.) Its as simple as that. Difficult, yes, ...impossible, no way!
Together, WE CAN make a Difference!
Are you tired of waiting to pass a bill? Would you like to take the battle against horse slaughter one step further than you ever have before? Are you passionatley enough committed to the cause to go ALL OUT for the horses? We are hoping that at least some of you will. It dosent take millions or even thousands of us to do it; just a dedicated few will do! First you will need to unplug your fax machines, put down your telephones and stop your email campaigns, but only just for awhile. Then come on out of your comfort zones and out into the open and into the bright light of day, and
Get ACTIVE!
Get Up & Get Out and Get Active. "ACT-UP" a little,.... Its' act-ually quite FUN!
Be sure to have your facts straight, and have some literature on hand to pass out. Make signs if you like but most important is to just talk to the people, teach them well,..educate them on the realities of the situation. Most people, even horse-people, have no clue! Once you enlighten them, if they care anything at all about horses, we guarantee that you WILL make new "Friends" and find support, sometimes in the strangest places.
Find a local industry event to "target," any breed association event will do, racetracks and rodeos are excellent places to go, or you could picket "industry offices" if there is one near you. Bring some friends along if you are able but if not, do not dispair; It only takes one outspoken and couragous "spokesperson" of the movement to pass out brochures, talk with the people and educate them about the problems of horse-overpopulation and horse slaughter in this country today. Education of the masses will generate sympathy & passion for our cause. It may take some time but in this way our numbers will grow. Most people, even those in the industry,.. will be outraged when they learn the truth and the realities of the situation; that it is nothing but an industry based on greed. Outrage generates ANGER, and anger generates ACTION. Public outrage and public humiliation of the offenders is the key to victory. Never forget, it is US who have "right" on our side!
STOP the MADNESS NOW! DEMAND INDUSTRY ACCOUNTABILITY
Demand Controls on breeding - Demand More Charitable Contributions - Demand Alternatives to Horse Slaughter -
AND END EQUINE SLAUGHTER NOW!
* Cant wait to get busy? First thing you should do is call your local police department "special permits" division to see if you will need a permit. Asking for a permit is just a formality, they cant really tell you "no," at least not without a HUGE legal battle over it as the ACLU will challange them on it no doubt. They love those types of cases....anyways, its just a courtesey to let them know your plans. Tell them you are planning a small demonstration or protest, (picket-line style or whatever.) Make sure to let them know you are planning on no civil disobedience or violent behavior. Be sure to know your location, the approximate # of participants you expect to attend. Rules and ordinances regarding demonstrations vary from place to place so it is well to ask ahead. You may get some information from your city clerks office if you are not sure who to contact, but it is generally the local police, depending on where you are planning your activites. If you are planning an action on federal lands, of course then you have to apply to the Fed Dept. which has jurisdiction over that location. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this or any other aspect of "getting active," you can email us at:
We will be more than glad to answer your questions and render any help that we can in helping you to organize an action. What can you do in the meantime? Get busy printing up some dynomite brochures!

While Friends of Equines supports any legislation that would end horse slaughter and exportation, we do not believe in putting all our faith and hope in the promices of politicians or of the workings of Washington.. Friends of Equines firmly believes we DO NOT NEED any state or federal laws to at least greatly curtail horse slaughter. We believe in the power of protest and demonstrations in the way of public education, exposure & embarassment of the responsible parties.
We believe that with constant and concerted effort we can convince the pro-slaughter industries responsible for all the so-called "unwanted" horses to do the right thing and take responsibility for the societal problems they are creating with their over-production of equines and their artifical "need" for slaughter. We are out to hold those industries accountable and we dont have to wait on any bill to pass in Congress. We are demanding accountability NOW!
Our targets are The Jockey Club, The National Thoroughbred Racing Association, The American Horse Council and all of their affiliate state horse counsils who are all Pro-Slaughter (and there is one in every state!) and the American Quarter-Horse Association, who sends more horses to slaughter than any other organization, even the racing industry. Also there is the Arabian Horse Association and the American Pinto Horse Association who recently jumped on the pro-slaughter bandwagon. These are just a few of the "horse loving" industries that are lobbying hard against our anti-horse slaugher bills. These are also the organizations producing and promoting the overbreeding of horses, and these are the ones who claim a need for slaughter as a profitable way to dispose of their industry castoffs. These are also the organizations that COULD stop 98% of horse slaughter "in its tracks" with a single two-letter word ("no") to its members, and who can also DAM WELL afford to "fix" the problem of "what to do with so many of their unwanted horses." These are also the organizations that have the money to buy political clout and they do. They are a small but crafty & effective few who know their way around the legislative process. They most certainly know how to stall, block and kill our bills; they are just doing what they are paid by our opponents to do, and they are very good at it. They are professionals. Therefore, while the legislative battles rage on we "Friends of Equines" feel we have no choice but to focus our efforts upon the industry for a proper accounting regarding their pro-slaughter stance. We are out to expose the million dollar profits and tax breaks and breeding incentives the millionaires and billionaires clubs of the industry enjoy at our expense, and to expose their pro-slaughter lies at every opportunity, and we ARE doing that everyday, time and time again. The anti-horse slaughter movement continues to gain momentum. More people are becoming aware,...the truth is coming out and people are getting mad,..more people are becoming active. "Friends of Equines" WILL NOT stand silently by as the industry continues to promote indiscriminate breeding and claiming the slaughter of their "unwanteds" is a "necessary evil" of the business. It is NOT a "necessary evil" and we will not stand idly by while they insult our intelligence and continue to promote more and more breeding while sending thousands upon thousands of their industry cast-offs to slaughter for human consumption in some foreign country each year. It simply is just not right in American Civilized Society where real Americans DO NOT eat horses. "Friends of Equines" wont stand for it and we believe Americans will not stand for it either if we could only band together as one unifed body, one VOICE, just long enough to get the job done. We must hold the industries feeding the slaughter-pipelines to account for their careless policies promoting breeding with no thought of seeking alternatives to slaughter for their "unwanted" ones. We are out to expose the Equine Industrialites to the public for what they really are, - the uncaring "puppy-millers" of the equine world, the money hungry conveyor belt mass-producers of "unwanted" horses who care nothing for their industry cast-offs, but reserve their "affections" only for those horses that continue to earn profits for them. We are out to publicly denounce them and expose their enormous wealth and greed and embarass them in front of the world into doing the right thing by convincing them that it would be in their best interest to change their policies on breeding & their preferred "disposal" method. We do have the power to do this and to commence doing it NOW. We really dont need no "stinkin'" bill! What are we waiting for?
"To stand in silence when we should be protesting makes cowards of us."

"Those who profess to favor freedom, yet deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightening. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will."

Do Not Suffer Death of the Spirit & Soul;
I say to you, this morning, that if you have never found something so dear and precious to you that you will die for it, then you aren’t fit to live.You may be 38 years old, as I happen to be, and one day, some great opportunity stands before you and calls upon you to stand for some great principle, some great issue, some great cause. And you refuse to do it because you are afraid.
You refuse to do it because you want to live longer. You’re afraid that you will lose your job, or you are afraid that you will be criticized or that you will lose your popularity, or you’re afraid that somebody will stab or shoot or bomb your house. So you refuse to take a stand.
Well, you may go on and live until you are ninety, but you are just as dead at 38 as you would be at ninety.
And the cessation of breathing in your life is but the belated announcement of an earlier death of the spirit.
You died when you refused to stand up for right.
You died when you refused to stand up for truth.
You died when you refused to stand up for justice.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.
Enough of the "Polite Wars!" NOW is the time for DEMANDS!
