ST JOHNSTONE 1 - 1 AIRDRIE UNITED
Yet again Airdrie put on another nerve-racking and nail biting match but this time we couldn't convert a good performance into three points. Airdrie enjoyed most of the possesion in the match and a few efforts were saved by the Saints keeper but I couldn't help think that our efforts were a bit half hearted as the Saints keeper wasn't put under much pressure for any of the saves he had to make. Saints keeper did make a blunder as he ran out to defend one of Stephen McKeown's runs and totally missed the ball and gave Stephen McKeown a real good chance to score into an empty net, to everyones surprise he didn't. No more real threats in the first half as the two teams went in for the break. I took this oppurtunity to go down and half a look around the snack bar, went for a pie and came back with a jam donut. Tried the pies earlier and rather dry so I would have given it a four out of ten for the pies at McDiarmaid.
We took our seats as the second half started and a few other efforts nothing that really sticks in my mind as a real good effort comes to mind. A scramble in the box with the ball bobling about the ground hit off Kevin Christie and gave them a one-nil lead with about fifteen minutes to play. It was at this point in the game were I was annoyed that St. Johnstone spent the remainder of the game time wasting not much to the delight of the rest of the Airdrie support. Slap bang on the nintieth minute the legend of which is Owen Coyle was given the ball at the eighteen yard line and converted it into a goal to throw the Diamonds a life line. Cant remember much more apart from runningn down about thirty steps to congratulate him.
Airdrie were the better side there is no question of that and we simply couldn't finish the many chances we were given. Fortunately for us the two teams below us dropped points aswell so we haven't dropped back into the relegation zone.
A good performance is needed next saturday as we face league leaders Falkirk at New Broomfield.
