French election maps up to 1789

Introduction

This website is a repository for all French election maps for numerous elections. All maps were made by me, unless noted otherwise. In addition, the most interesting maps have analysis attached to the (my definition of interesting for this site means most maps except those that are very useless).

Legislative Election Maps 1958-2007

I managed to find a reliable base map of the constituencies in existence from 1958 to 1986, which takes into account mini-redistrictings between those years (in the Rhone, Corse, and Parisian region).

I've done the maps of the new constituencies since 1988, and they're posted on this site with analysis and so forth. A map of 1986 is also posted on this site. I'm in the process of making the maps from 1958 to 1981. If you have any urgent requests for an election in that time frame, please email me and I'll give precedence to your request.

  • October 28, 2008: Technology problems and little time resulted in the death of this. It's back with two 1969 turnout maps.

  • November 2008: Reims Congress, 1946-1969 French referendums. Some analytical maps for 2007 and 1995.
  • December 19, 2008: Napoleonic plebiscites, an early RadSoc map, Lecanuet '65 and Rocard '69. 
  • January 24, 2009: Bayrou, Bove, Besancenot '07 constituency map and Saint-Josse '02 constituency map.
  • March 8, 2009: Fixed 1988 map.
