Rei Kurosawa, A freelance photographer. She lives with her busy life and with Miku Hinasaki her assistant. Rei is a descendent of Sae Kurosawa, the main villainess in Fatal Frame 2. She also has strong sixth sense and incredible camera abilities. After the death of her fiancé Yuu, she started to get nightmares of a house, called the Manor of sleep.
Miku Hinasaki, Rei's assistant. She thought she lost her power along with her brother that day, but the power has returned and it comes back to her now. Miku has the strongest sixth sense of all three of our protagonists. She also has nightmares of The manor of sleep as well as Himuro mansion every time she sleeps where she sees her brother.
Kei amakura, A non-fiction writer. He was Yuu and Mafuyu's friend. He is also Mio amakura and Mayu amakura's uncle from their mother's side. He takes care of Mio now because Shizu (Mio's mother) is seriously ill. All the concerns about his niece trap him into the nighmares about Minakami village (or All gods village).
Yuu Asou, a researcher. He, Kei and Mafuyu Hinasaki did research on various old legends together but unfortunately he died in a car crash in which Rei was driving. He was Rei's fiancé and also a direct descendent of Dr. Kunihiko Aso.
Mio amakura, twin sister of Mayu Amakura and a young girl gifted with a strong sixth sense. She had got lost in the Minakami village but somehow managed to get out of it. She is Kei's niece and now she has nightmares about the house of sleep.
Mayu was the twin sister of Mio and also the niece of Kei Amakura. She had died in the incident in Minakami village and now Mio sees her sister in the nightmares. Her spirit turned into a crimson butterfly in the end.
A female spirit who was the tattoo maiden in the ritual. Her complete body is covered with painful tattooes as she haunts Rei's nightmares. She was caught by the rift from the unleashing which turned her evil.
Reika's lover who had followed Reika to the house of sleep. He was killed by Yashuu in the chamber of thorns. He was the son of Kyouka Kuze and Akito Kawagashi and was born in the manor of sleep but was cast out and sent to the nearby village when he was 4.
Amane a young girl turned into a handmaiden by Yashuu Kuze (the head mistress of the shrine). Amane led her brother Kaname into the manor secretly for him and Reika to meet but she was caught and impaled at the bottom on the abyss by the other handmaidens. Hisame was the eldest of the four handmaiden. She was supposedly adopted from the village nearby. After the unleashing occurred, she performed the final command by imapaling Minamo and Shigure in the room which connects the 'shrine of sleep' to the 'shrine of rift'. Minamo, Probably the youngest of the handmaidens. She was impaled by Hisame to stop the rift from spreading all over the world. Shigure was also one of the four handmaidens. She was impaled by Hisame to stop the rift from spreading all over the world.
The most dutiful carpenter of the shrine. He was the head carpenter who had to sacrifice all other carpenters in order to stop the rift from spreading.
A young female who survived a plane crash. She also mourns over the death of her family and fiancé and has gotten trapped into the dreams of the manor.
Makie and Kozoe were both mother and Daughter. They had gotten trapped into the dream of the manor of sleep because Makie's husband died while trying to get Kozoe's ball.
The family mistress of the manor of sleep. She was the mother of Kyouka and she ordered the handmaidens to do various tasks.
The daughter of Yashuu Kuze. She was in the manor to keep the Kuze bloodline alive while men from outside were called to do so as well. She had fallen in love with Akito Kawagashi also an outsider.
A person who looks a lot like Kei Amakura. He was Kyouka's lover and a folklorist who brought the camera obscura to the house of sleep. He was killed by throwing into the well.
A shrine maiden who was sacrificed in the strangling ritual. She haunts Miku alot.
Twin sisters who were sacrificed in the crimson butterfly ritual. One sister kills the other with her own hands and the remaining twin gets the power of two which seals the repentance to spill.
Ruri, Miku's black pet cat. Ruri was given as a gift to Miku from her parents.
